Your Spring Wedding Guide • Your Spring Wedding Guide

This spring, Topic is paying very special

attention to the weddings of the

midlands. There is nothing that we

like more than covering the momentous

days of our local folk with family

and friends. If you’re planning on

declaring your commitment to the

world by joining in matrimony, there

are plenty of resources available

locally to aid you or your loved ones

in planning one of the most important

days in everyone’s life.

But first things first: It is always

With its splendid courtyard,

landscaped gardens

and restored feature buildings,

we proudly present

The Village Barn - a rustic

and serene backdrop for

your wedding day and an

inspired choice for all corporate

events and family

occasions.

Located in the beautiful

village of Tyrrellspass in

County Westmeath, our

venue offers an abundance

of exquisite photo opportunities

in every nook and

cranny.

From the exchange of

vows and capturing

moments to treasure, to

fine dining and dancing in

to the night - you will be

spoilt for choice as you

begin to create your special

day in this special

space.

Family run venue set on

and an abundance of outdoor

furniture to allow all

guests to relax and appreciate

the outdoors, with

the Rustic Barn for the

main event and complete

full bar facilities, stove

and soft seating area to

replicate your own living

room! Our mismatch furniture

and polished concrete

create a relaxed and

good to keep in mind that a person’s

wedding day is about them and the

person that they have decided to

spend the rest of their life with. If

you are getting married, remember

to relax and enjoy the day as well as

the months of preparation necessary

for the perfect wedding day. Sometimes

it will seem daunting, but be at

ease and try not to stress too much. A

wedding day is essentially a party;

the biggest party of your life, but

still a party. And parties are supposed

to be fun. The planning of the

party can be equally enjoyable if you

manage to stay organised and on top

of things.

This week, Topic has all the information

you need regarding local

resources, hotels and venues, showcases

and open days, photographers

and videographers, salons and beauticians,

as well as all the tips and

advice necessary for your special day

to go as smoothly as possible.

The Village Barn - Exclusively yours for your

informal setting for you

and your guests to relax in

and enjoy the party. All

food is carefully prepared

and cooked on site to

ensure freshness and as

the venue is exclusively

yours on the day each and

every member of our team

are there just to ensue you

have the very best day of

your life!

Peace of mind

for the bride

and groom

WEDDINGS can be stressful enough for a bride and

groom without their worst fears becoming a reality, so to

give the happy couple a bit of peace of mind, that in the

eventuality that anything does go wrong on their special

day, opt for wedding insurance.

Wedding cancellation insurance is one of those aspects

of your wedding that can feel wrong. It can almost feel like

you are making some sort of assumption that suggests you

have concerns and worries about the success of your marriage,

but it isn't.

Like most insurance policies, wedding coverage is tailored

to each insured's personal needs and wants. Policies

generally provide rescheduling, replacement or reimbursement

for things such as cancellations, stolen gifts,

lost rings and protects you against the loss caused by the

failure of many of the traditional elements of a wedding.

When buying wedding insurance, its all about getting the

right level of cover for your needs. If you are having a

tight budget wedding, perhaps only go for limited cover,

but if you are organising a lavish spread, perhaps it would

be wise to make sure you have comprehensive insurance.

The Village Barn

Exclusively yours for your Wedding Day

Located in the beautiful village of Tyrrellspass, our venue offers an abundance of exquisite photo

opportunities in every nook and cranny, our own unique food style and relaxed and friendly service.

Greville Arms Hotel

your wedding making your

dreams a reality.

The Greville Arms Hotel

welcome by the hotel wedding

co-ordinator, as well

as champagne for the

There is only one wedding

per day at the Greville

Arms, and the hotel has an

SOME TIPS FOR THE BIG DAY

The ever growing list of

things to do may seem

daunting, but rest assured

that you and your partner

already have the most

important part of the wedding

covered by finding

each other.

BUDGET

First of all, set a budget.

Set it, and don’t move.

Don’t allow anyone to push

you around on it, it’s

between the two of you,

and barring help from family,

it will be you two that

have to pay it off, so set it

and stick to it. Make it realistic,

and ensure that you

are both precisely aware of

how much you have to

spend on each aspect so

there are no surprises later

on.

DATE

Next, set the date. You’re

not going to randomly

come up with a date on the

first try, so broaden the

process a little. Set the season.

Do you want a summer,

spring, winter, or

autumn wedding? After

that it’s a doddle.

INSPIRATION

Collect ideas with your

partner. It’s all well and

good to have ideas from

when you were a child

which you want to come to

fruition. However, it’s quite

easy to get caught up with

the current and maybe dismiss

your significant

other’s wishes. It might be

nice to decide on ideas

together so you’re both

happy.

MEMORIES

Along with the venue,

photographers and videographers

are booked well in

advance so look into it

early. View work that photographers

have already

done; most will have a portfolio

for you to peruse.

TRANSPORT

Wedding vehicles can be

either quaint or completely

ostentatious - it all depends

on your taste, and how you

want your arrival at the

church to be remembered.

Whether you envisage a

simple, country wedding

with a modest Rolls Royce,

or a lavish, celebrity-style

arrival in a stretch limo,

there is a wide variety of

different vehicle hire services

available to cater to

different tastes.

THE DRESSES

For the bride, the dress is

perhaps one of the most

important parts in the

planning of the wedding,

as it is going to take centre

stage on the big day. The

perfect dress should make

the bride feel and look

beautiful.

It’s often forgotten that a

lot of preparation goes into

making the groom look

dashing also, so consult

your partner on colour

co-ordination.

FLOWERS

Flowers are a key

detail in the planning

of the wedding from

the bride’s bouquet to

the flowers which will

be arranged around the

venue. The bridesmaids’

outfits will set the trend

for the colours of the flowers,

so keep this in mind

when choosing the colour

theme.

ENTERTAINMENT

The entertainment you

chose will depend on personal

taste and indeed the

overall tone of the wedding,

which could range

from the classical stringed

quartet to a DJ. Make sure

you go to see them play

before your big day, as you

want your guests to have a

good time and not spend

the evening cringing at a

nightmare wedding singer.

The legalities of marriage

In the excitement of preparing for your wedding, it can

be easy to forget about the legalities and practicalities surrounding

marriage. There are three general types of wedding

that take place in Ireland: Catholic, civil, and other

religions. Whatever style of wedding you choose, don’t forget

these important steps along the way to your big day.

1. NOTIFICATION

Whether you are getting married in Ireland, or are an

Irish citizen hoping to marry abroad, couples must give a

minimum of three months notice to the registry office in

order to get married. An appointment must be made to

give said notice, so ensure that your appointment is made

in plenty of time.

2. PRE-MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

Catholic marriages require couples to partake in a marriage

preparation course and the certificate from this

must be given to the priest prior to the marriage ceremony.

3. PRENUPTIAL ENQUIRY FORM

This applies to Catholic weddings and must be filled in

the presence of the priest in the parish that you live in.

When filling in this form, the couple must bring baptismal

certificates, confirmation certificate, and premarriage

certificate form.

4. SOLEMNISING THE MARRIAGE

Once you have registered you will be issued with a marriage

registration form which grants you the authorisation

to be married. This must be presented to whoever is

solemnising the marriage, be it religious or otherwise.

5. RETURNING FORMS

Following the celebrations, the registration forms must

be returned to the registrar within one month for marriage

to be registered and recognised.

6. STATUS

Now that you are married, your status changes in regard

to lots of things i.e. life insurance, pension, inheritance,

taxation etc. etc. the list goes on and on. Visit CitizensInformation.ie

where you will find a list of tabs relating to

all your needs.
