.... a word from our President
If you are a first time visitor to our website and newsletter, I would like to welcome you.
Thank you for your interest in our organization. Take a look at our activities listed in this
newsletter. As you can see, we have a variety of activities driving our Corvettes and
having as much fun as possible! Feel free to contact us for more information. We look
forward to meeting you.
Hope everyone has plans for a great Independence Day. The Fourth of July
commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence of the United States from
Great Britain's rule. We all love to enjoy the annual celebration with fireworks,
barbecues, parades and family reunions. It is interesting to note that Thomas Jefferson
and John Adams, the only two signers of the Declaration who later served as presidents,
both died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50 th anniversary of the
Declaration.
We recently concluded our annual picnic at Kroekerville, our club playground. Isn't that
place great! Thank you, Joyce, Steve, and Jill for the use of the facility and your help
with planning and setup. I would also like to acknowledge those who stepped forward to
help the board put this together: Gary and Pam Linsner, David Sons and Stephanie
Engelman. I will continue to say it, “Many hands make the lifting easier.” Also, it may
have looked like chaos parking the cars, but the drone pictures from above sure looked
spectacular! Thank you Jimmy!
See you on our next run!
Your President,
Jeff

Central Valley Corvettes
Rejoice! June 30 th Is National Corvette Day
Not all General Motors fans may know this, but in 2008, the United States House of
Representatives passed a resolution that June 30 th would from that point forward be
known as National Corvette Day. Why June 30 th , one might ask? Well, on June 30, 1953,
the first-ever Corvette rolled off the assembly line in Flint, Michigan – marking the start
of production of America’s first sports car.
That means that Thursday, June 30 th marks the 69th Anniversary of Corvette production.
We believe Harley J. Earl, the man who first dreamt up the ‘Vette, would be extremely
proud to see the mid-engine C8 Corvette rolling off the assembly line in Bowling Green,
Kentucky. The same goes for Zora Arkus-Duntov, who not only helped introduce the
Small Block V8 in the car, but also attempted to convince GM to move the vehicle to a
mid-engine layout way back in the 1960s. The C8 Corvette is everything Earl and Duntov
would have wanted it to be: stylish, fast, technologically advanced and, perhaps most
importantly, still accessible for the average joe.
Many readers will know that the first Corvettes were all Polo White roadster models with
red interiors and black canvas tops. Production moved from Flint to St. Louis, Missouri
for the 1954 model year, at which point GM began to truly mass-produce the sports car.
GM moved Corvette production to Bowling Green Assembly in 1981 as it prepared to
put the vastly improved fourth-generation model into production. The Bowling Green
plant, which was formerly a Chrysler air-conditioning factory, has remained GM’s only
Corvette production plant for the past 41 years.
Looking forward, GM will introduce several exciting new C8 Corvette model variants in
the coming years. The next C8 Corvette model expected is the Z06, which will be
powered by a 5.5L flat-plane crank V8, followed by electrified models like the E-Ray
and, eventually, the ZR1.
Happy National Corvette Day, Chevy fans!
JUNE SUNSHINE & CLOUDS
Fun Times
Debbie & Keith also just returned from visiting their grandkids in Kentucky. They
decided to fly when they crunch the numbers and found out it was cheaper but had
to stay in Dallas overnight when their flight departed late from Fresno and again on
the return when their flight was cancelled to Fresno. Flying is quite the adventure.
David & I just got back Saturday from an RV trip to the Oregon coast/Bend area and
we had a great time. We drove up through the Redwoods on the California coast and
into Oregon coast. It was rainy and misty but the scenery was absolutely beautiful.
About the third day of our trip I came down with a tooth infection in a tooth that had
an old root canal. Luckily the dentist was able to call in an antibiotic and it was
better in a day or two but it looks like I’m going to need to have another root drilled
there. When we arrived in Bend it was really cool to see some friends at the same RV
park and we parked right next to them.
Monica and Keith Collins are currently on a trip visiting their daughter in Texas.
They are gone for 10 days but say even though it is warm and humid there they are
still having a great time.
Lori Dukes is planning a vacation and is heading out on a 2-week trip to France on
July 2. She is going with a group from Fresno Pacific College and her brother and
sister in-law are joining her.
Now this sounds super fun.
Lydia and Steve Garcia had a really busy last few weeks. They went to Las Vegas
just for a fun four days. They went to a show and ballroom dancing, went to Gillies
for some country dancing and had a super fun weekend. The following week they
left in the Vette to the Pismo car show along with the Kings and Mike Percy and had
a fantastic time. Then the following Wednesday we flew to Idaho with Janet and
Larry king and went to the super modified races with 4 other couples who lived
there, there was a lot happening with both new and old friends while we were there
but it’s now back to reality and to rest up.
I’m Facebook friends with Bruce & Sheri Garlock and if you’re not already you should
ask them to ‘friend’ you. One can’t help but see all the amazing fun they have in their
life. From going on Corvette cruises, motorcycle runs, heading to a baseball game or
the race track with friends or whatever they do makes life look fun.
Actually, I don’t even think they are retired yet! I guess we can live vicariously
through their journeys. She posted a saying… I’m going on vacation; I only need 4
outfits so I packed 25 just in case. It was too funny not to share.
A little bit of stress:
Emily & Tom Piercy are in the middle of remodeling their house with new kitchen
cabinets, flooring and bathroom updates. She is not here tonight and a ‘little under
the weather’.
Wonderful News:
Jody Webb had so a good time at Table Mountain a few weeks ago and they liked her
so much that they gave her eight (8) 1099’s as a parting gift. You luck lady… take
that to your accountant!
Remembering Our Loved One
The 2-year date of the loss of Araceli’s husband Wayne is nearing and she and
Jasmine continue to miss him dearly. She said she remember the kindness and
support they received from the corvette club when we were at our lowest after their
loss and said the club is truly like our second family, and we are thankful to be a part
of it. She also wanted to share this quote as it could help anyone missing a loved one.
“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard,
but always near; still loved, still missed and very dear.” – anonymous
She wants to thank you all for your continued support, your words of
encouragement and kindness, which is what made the difference in the world.
Doing better:
Several weeks ago Debbie’s sister’s was admitted to the hospital for to infection for
an entire week they ran tests and scans. The doctors finally determined that the
infection had likely stemmed from a gallbladder attack and she had surgery to
remove it May 30 th . She continues to recover from both the surgery and lingering
symptoms of the stroke she suffered in April.
Upcoming Surgery
Charlotte is having hip replacement surgery on July 12 th . She continues to be in a
lot of pain and hoped it would’ve been sooner but she’s at their mercy and scheduled
timetable. She wants to thank each and everyone for their continued kindness.
So on a bit more serious note:
Tom Piercy’s son Eric suffered a poolside accident on Memorial Day and had
sustained severe spinal injury. He is only 39 years old and has been told he may
never walk again. Please keep him in your prayers. He lives in Texas and is
currently in a spinal hospital in Houston
I also wanted to share with y’all that I spoke to Robert Still on the phone last
night (he’s one of our newest members voted in tonight). I spoke to him for a bit
and he told to me that he was recently diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. I
conveyed my grief and told him he is definitely in my prayers. I asked him if it
was ok with me sharing the news with y’all and he is very open to talk about it.
Apparently, it is the second bout with this cancer and he has also decided not to
receive any chemo treatments. He has weighed the options and feels it is the best
course of action for him. He has a wonderful disposition and is super friendly and
funny. I hope you do the same and join me in lifting him up in your prayers.
If you have any news (good or not so good) and you would like to share with us,
please send an e-mail to me at juliebomb@yahoo.com or call me at 559-779-1718
The Spanish term La Veta Madre (The Mother Load) refers to
a rich vein of gold that included the region from Mariposa to
Downieville. In 1848 James Marshall discovered gold along
the American River, and the race for riches was on. We will
be spending three nights along State Route 49, the main
route linking gold country towns and visit landmarks,
museums, and other desKnaKons.
Many of the original mining towns
described by historians have vanished
and landmarks become fewer each
year as Kme, fires, and progress take
their toll. Plan to see it before it's gone
