… 30 Years a-Growing<br />
2022 will mark the 30th year<br />
of the birth of Ponderosa Golf<br />
& Country Resort and just<br />
like wine, it has mellowed<br />
with age. What started in<br />
1992 as a member’s club to<br />
an elite group of at least 1000<br />
people among Johor’s society,<br />
and if wine is still used as a<br />
metaphor, Ponderosa was<br />
rich, lush, opulent, intense<br />
and iconic within the fabric of<br />
the local golf fraternity. It was<br />
one of the earliest golf courses<br />
in Johor and not many could<br />
boast the grandeur with which<br />
it was first presented to the<br />
public. At a time when Taman<br />
Molek was not fully-developed<br />
and Taman Ponderosa not<br />
yet mapped it was already a<br />
gem, offering a lifestyle to the<br />
privileged.<br />
It grew and matured in stages<br />
with an 18-hole golf course<br />
completed and all buildings<br />
with facilities ready to meet<br />
an ever-growing membership<br />
that included social<br />
members. Many professional<br />
tournaments, charity and social<br />
events were held and where<br />
the surrounding residents and<br />
community grew closer within<br />
its space becoming the pillar<br />
of their social, emotional and<br />
psychological well-being.
