HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY!
A huge shout out to all members and guests who recorded so many beautiful memories at Ponderosa
throughout these years. Thanks for making Ponderosa your long-term friend. We cherish dearly
your friendship and support.
It was an indeed adventurous first 30 years at Ponderosa. Like any golf game, it never fails to
surprise us with both birdies and bogeys along the play. It may start with just a simple tee shot, to
embark us on a journey so joyous that enables us to explore the entire landscape of companionship.
We will definitely never forget about all the good shots, lucky shots and of course, laughing together
at the bad ones too!
As we cross over to the beginning of the second 30, we feel so honoured and excited to have so
many friends driving towards the second 30 years with so much anticipation. The tee shot at the
10th tee will be very nostalgic – just as if we are at the starting hole again. Well, golf is a game that
teaches us that the most important shot is always the next. Let’s look forward to more amazing
years ahead together.
Your loyalty and support shall always be the make of Ponderosa as one of the top members’ club in
town.
On my part, together with my team, I aspire that Ponderosa Golf Club shall always be the Lung of
Taman Molek and Taman Ponderosa!

THROUGH THE YEARS
… 30 Years a-Growing
2022 will mark the 30th year
of the birth of Ponderosa Golf
& Country Resort and just
like wine, it has mellowed
with age. What started in
1992 as a member’s club to
an elite group of at least 1000
people among Johor’s society,
and if wine is still used as a
metaphor, Ponderosa was
rich, lush, opulent, intense
and iconic within the fabric of
the local golf fraternity. It was
one of the earliest golf courses
in Johor and not many could
boast the grandeur with which
it was first presented to the
public. At a time when Taman
Molek was not fully-developed
and Taman Ponderosa not
yet mapped it was already a
gem, offering a lifestyle to the
privileged.
It grew and matured in stages
with an 18-hole golf course
completed and all buildings
with facilities ready to meet
an ever-growing membership
that included social
members. Many professional
tournaments, charity and social
events were held and where
the surrounding residents and
community grew closer within
its space becoming the pillar
of their social, emotional and
psychological well-being.

As the years wore on, much
effort was put in up-keeping
its premises with renovations
and upgrades around the
building and especially to keep
its golf course at an optimum
level of play. Despite the years,
entire management team and
staff stood together to brave the
onslaught of uncertainty. We

its richness did not wane.
30 years on, Ponderosa Golf &
Country Club has grown from
strength to strength and today
it is named as among the best
in Johor, with a secure and
supportive base of members as
well as curious visitors who came
to play and eventually became
one of us. Especially during the
recent pandemic, its members
remain steadfast while the
stood the test of time, managing
both adversity and felicity.
Hence, it is timely to celebrate
the first 30 years of glory and to
move on to the next phase, this
time to the beat of digitalisation
and with a vibrancy of activities
centred in community,
membership and environmental
care, that will raise Ponderosa
Golf & Country Resort to new
heights.

FOR 3RD QUARTER OF 2022
Winners of every series of the 9-Hole Golf Challenge will have their names listed on a plague at the
Café, and will compete in a Grand Final organised either at Home Club or at an Off-site Club at the
end of each year’s run.

Kelab Golf Subang Negara (KGNS) is one of the major golf courses in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Malaysia
founded in 1968 by the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Bin Putra Al-Haj. It has

The committee members from A’Famosa Golf &
Country Resort in Melaka had a great day out on
the golf course on Saturday, 19 March 2022 for the
purpose of familiarisation. Ponderosa was proud

gather about twice a week.

A BLISSFUL STARTING
POINT @ PADDOCK
A young man came, spotted and found the very place to help him win his bride.
He saw the Paddock at Ponderosa with lush surrounding greens, and balmy with coconut trees that
would make him less nervous, and hopefully to lull his girlfriend into agreeing to marry him. As a
cupid with his arrow, that one shot had to go straight to her heart!
The Pavilion was romantically decked out with pink balloons, hearts and while under the moonlight,
he went on his knees and won the heart of the love of his life.
Ponderosa is joyous for helping to unite two lovely couples and we wish them Happiness and Bliss
ever after!

30TH ANNIVERSARY SPORTS BASH
POOL’S OUT & SHADES IN
The second half of 2022 will see the Olympic
Swimming Pool in a shining new light … or
rather, to shade out the light. We are installing
Shades over the pool - all for the comfort of
swimmers to keep out the direct glare and rays
of the sun.
Therefore the pool will be closed from 4-7
July, and from 11-31 July 2022.

THE HISTORY OF GOLF
“Golf is an exercise which is much used by a gentleman in Scotland……A man would live 10 years
the longer for using this exercise once or twice a week.”

Golf originated from a game
played on the eastern coast
of Scotland, close to the royal
capital of Edinburgh. In those
early days players would attempt
to hit a pebble over sand dunes
and around tracks using a
bent stick or club. It was later
banned by King James II after
many became too enthusiastic
with the sport, causing neglect
in their military training.
In 1502 the game gained the
royal seal of approval when King
James IV of Scotland (1473 -1513)
became the world’s first golfing
monarch, where its popularity
quickly spread throughout 16th
century Europe. The game of golf
officially became a sport when
the Gentlemen Golfers of Leith
formed the first club in 1744.
The first ever 18-hole course
was constructed at St Andrews
in 1764, establishing the now
recognised standard for the
game. King William IV honoured
the club with the title ‘Royal
& Ancient’ in 1834, and it was
established as the world’s
premier golf club.
At this time golfers were using
hand-crafted wooden clubs
usually made from beech with
shafts of ash or hazel, and balls
were made from compressed
feathers wrapped in a stitched
horse hide.
