Lacock Abbey, Fox Talbot Museum & Village - National Trust<br />

One of the jewels of the National Trust, Lacock Abbey & Village is located near<br />

Chippenham and is a wonderful day out. Step back in time in this uniquely preserved<br />

village, owned by the National Trust. Unspoilt, original timber-framed cottages line the<br />

streets of the village, making it a perfect filming location for shows such as 'Cranford' and<br />

‘Downton Abbey’. The impressive medieval cloistered abbey which has lovely grounds, was<br />

once the home of William Henry Fox Talbot – the 'father of modern photography' and<br />

there is now a fascinating museum in the village. 280m from drop off point to village.<br />

the house has an extravagant interior and there are extensive gardens offering views across the Solent. Take an intimate glimpse into Queen Victoria's<br />

family life as you tour the nursery and private rooms of Victoria and Albert. Marvel at the magnificence of the Royal Apartments including the<br />

sumptuous drawing and dining rooms and the richly decorated Indian-inspired Durbar Room. The visitor centre houses an exhibition and an excellent<br />

Sidmouth in Folk Festival Week<br />

There has been a folk festival in Sidmouth since 1955, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the town. This is a day to soak up the atmosphere<br />

around town - we do not include entry to any paid event - most of which happen in the evening. The town’s streets and venues burst with a friendly<br />

atmosphere and colour as holidaymakers and festival goers join together and there is nearly always a free event on the seafront at some point during<br />

Mottisfont Estate & Garden - National Trust<br />

Having started life as a priory, Mottisfont, near Romsey, was transformed over the years in<br />

to a lovely country home surrounded by a large estate and parkland. Maud Russell made<br />

Mottisfont her home in the 1930s, bringing artists here to relax and work – the<br />

extraordinary drawing-room was painted by artist Rex Whistler. Enjoy a stroll along the<br />

sparkling River Test which runs through the estate and the colours of the season. Plenty of<br />

time to explore plus there is an excellent cafe/restaurant or you may like to picnic in the<br />

**NEW** Winchester & Hampshire Canal Cruise<br />

Please book early to avoid disappointment as these canal boat trips are extremely popular.<br />

After being collected from your convenient local pick point we head for the centre of Winchester. Once the Capital of England, the city is packed with<br />

historic buildings including the impressive 11th Century Cathedral combined with tranquil green spaces. Stopping here for a couple of hours, so<br />

plenty of time to enjoy a 'brunch'. We head on to near Odiham where we board our boat for a trip along the Basingstoke Canal. Step aboard the 68<br />

foot widebeam John Pinkerton, manned by trained volunteers. Enjoy the wildlife and countryside on our 2 1/2 hour cruise along tranquil stretches of<br />

Chartwell House, Kent - National Trust<br />

Once the much-loved Churchill family home and the place from which Sir Winston drew inspiration, the rooms remain much as they were when he<br />

lived here, with pictures, books and personal mementoes evoking the career and wide-ranging interests of a great statesman, writer, painter and<br />

family man. The hillside gardens reflect Sir Winston’s love of the landscape and nature. They include the lakes he created, the kitchen garden and the<br />

Marycot playhouse. Beyond the gardens there is an expanse of woodland to explore with looped trails. Excellent on site catering facilities. Price<br />

Birdworld OR Forest Lodge Garden Centre<br />

Covering 26 acres and adjacent to the renowned Forest Lodge Garden Centre, Birdworld is<br />

located near Farnham in Surrey. Attractions around the park include Underwater World,<br />

Birdworld’s own aquarium and Jenny Wren children’s farm. There are more than 150<br />

different species of birds, many of which are critically endangered, as well as a flock of<br />

pelicans on pelican island, one of the largest free flying parrot aviaries in the world, two<br />

flourishing penguin colonies, a seashore themed aviary and a birds of prey area.<br />

Underwater World houses a variety of fish and reptiles including two rescued crocodiles.<br />
