track "SYL" has been

composed by Sidhu
before he was shot
dead in May, the new
song was released
by music producer
MXRCI on Friday.
Since its debut, the
song has amassed
over 23 millions
views on the Googleowned
video
streaming platform
and received 3.1
million likes. The
songÓs title refers to
the Sutlej-Yamuna
Link (SYL) canal,
which has been a
bone of contention
between Punjab and
Haryana for several
decades. Punjab has
been demanding a
reassessment of its
share of the Ravi-
Beas rivers water
while Haryana has
been seeking
completion of the
canal to get its share.
Moosewala, whose
real name was
Shubhdeep Singh
Sidhu, was shot dead
by unidentified
assailants in
PunjabÓs Mansa
district last month.
Moosewala enjoyed

My native village is Naura (Near Khatkar
Kalan) in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar
District (Old Nawanshahr Distt) of Punjab. My
parents have been residing in a small City,
Goraya, Distt. Jalandhar since late 70s. My
Father retired as Sub Inspector from Punjab
Police and mother is a homemaker.
Your Early Education
Icompleted Junior High School at Goraya and
High School (+2)from Govt College, Ludhiana.
Later, I joined Panjab University Biochemistry
Department, Chandigarh and completed
Masters with Honours and Doctorate (PhD).
Your career advancement initiatives,
volunteer work and present occupation
After completing my PhD, I migrated to Canada
along with my wife in 2005 to explore career
options in my filed of my specialization
(Biochemistry). During my search for a new
job, I got the opportunity to take up a Post
Doctoral Research position in USA at
Louisiana State University Health Science
Center, New Orleans, LA and we decided to
move to USA within few months of arriving in
Canada. In 2011, I joined as Assistant
Professor in the same institute. In 2013, I
decided to move back to India when I was
selected for a Ramalingaswami Fellowship,
the Program initiated by Government of India,
with an aim to provide opportunity to
Researchers working abroad to return back
to India. After spending 8 years at foreign land,
I joined back my parent institute on Aug, 2013.
Currently, I am serving as a Professor,
Department of Biochemistry, Panjab
University, Chandigarh, India.
Your Regret in Life
Life is full of opportunities as well as
challenges. Therefore, I believe that there
should not be much place for regret. One has
to focus on duty in hand and try to do his/her
best and face the reality. Feeling of regret is
one of the emotion which we normally face
many times in life and therefore it is important
to learn how to keep it aside while moving
ahead.

Being selected as Ramalingaswami Fellow
which gave me the opportunity for home
coming and serve my country and as a
teacher, the best achievement is to see your
student’s progress in their illustrious career.
Any Comments on Modern Culture
Change do happen with time and accordingly
culture of any society do evolves. However,
the rate at which changes happens primarily
due to faster changing technology, the mind
gets restricted to adapting to such changes

more personalized and in the process social
values system is deteriorating. Therefore, I
feel due to fast pace life time, peace and
happiness have become luxury which
ultimately makes the life stressful even if one
has access to all the basic amenities.
Sometimes, I do feel that a quest for
prosperity has becomes counterproductive in
the present times as feeling of RUHANIAT
has becomes rarity.
What Brought You Success?
I like to focus on job in hand and try to perform
it honestly with best of my abilities. I believe
in the spirit of ‘Karam is Dharam’. And hence
draws satisfaction out of my work.
Are You Willing to Help Upcoming
Professionals and How?
Being in a teaching profession, it is always a
pleasure to help the students and upcoming
professionals in my filed of specialization. I
try to encourage students to plan things a bit
ahead of time and motivate them to compete
with oneself rather than competing with
others. As a teacher, I try to emphasize on
the values of hard work, discipline and honesty
so that students can progress independently
and can have a promising career rather than
seeking favor from others.
Your Message for Canadians of Asian
Origin
Since, I also have the opportunity to be on
foreign land, I understand that it is important
to adapt to new culture to be at ease with
new society. But, it is heartening to see that
people of Asian Origin do not forget their
native culture and remain glued. I do agree,
it’s a big challenge to bring in born/raised kids
back home. However, do your best to
strengthen their ties to roots.

G7 & the war
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson
has rightly accused Russia of war crimes
after a missile strike on a crowded shopping
centre in Ukraine which killed 18
people and wounded over 59. He lashed
out at Russian President Vladimir Putin’s
“cruelty and barbarism”. In a joint statement
issued on Monday, G7 leaders also
remained “steadfast in our solidarity with
Ukraine, and reaffirm our unwavering
commitment to support the Government
and people of Ukraine in their courageous
defence of their country’s sovereignty
and territorial integrity, and in their fight
for a peaceful, prosperous and democratic
future”. This will enthuse Ukrainian
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who,
along with other Ukrainians, has been
fighting valiantly against the much bigger
and more powerful Russia. The US-led
West’s support for the besieged eastern
European nation has been admirable; so
also is the way they weaponised their financial
dominance and used it against
Moscow. Besides, their support to Ukraine
by way of arming it with the latest arms
and armaments is praiseworthy. The
same, however, cannot be said about its
effectiveness. Despite months of debilitating
sanctions against Russia, its war
machine is still buzzing. After over a century,
Russia has defaulted over a $100-
million payment — not because it doesn’t
have money but because it is not allowed
to pay its creditors. The default is likely
to hurt the creditors rather than Moscow;
it won’t surely hurt Putin enough to force
him to call off the war.
G7 leaders are deploying other means
to augment pressure on the Kremlin.
They have agreed to study placing global
price caps on imports of Russian energy
to curb Moscow’s ability to fund its
invasion of Ukraine and to contribute up
to $5 billion to address global food insecurity,
according to a Reuters report.
However, they cannot be absolved of their
role, though indirect, of enriching and
thus emboldening Putin to such an extent
that he could dare to attack Ukraine.
Rich nations, swayed by the rhetoric of
climate activists, became so obsessed
with checking the use of fossil fuels that
they discouraged production in their own
jurisdictions. Under US President Joe
Biden, for instance, the US has become
a net energy importer, though his predecessor
Donald Trump had ensured energy
independence. This happened because
Biden’s Democratic Party has increasingly
been influenced by the radical
Left. Last year, Biden had also allowed
Russia to sell oil to Europe. This is not to
say that concerns about the environment
should be ignored, but the action should
be calibrated, not rash. Developed nations
didn’t realise that though climate
change can end the world in a century, a
nuclear war can do that in a day. Yes,
that’s a possibility! Frustrated that a small
nation is not surrendering, Putin may
decide to escalate his war. That may have
calamitous consequences, not just for
Ukraine and Europe but the entire world.
G7 must ensure that its actions against
Russia are not just effective but also nonescalatory.
