inspired by the rhythms, textures and instrumentation of the

Indonesian gamelan. This work was commissioned by Angela

Campbell.

This edition is a facsimile of the original score provided by the composer.

Instrumentation

Percussion (5 groups)

Group [A] – Rhythm: claves, 2 cymbals, 2 hand drums, bongos

Group [B] – Bulungan: metallophone, xylophone, bass xylophone

Group [C] – Kotekan: 2 glockenspiels

Group [D] – Recorders: 2 recorders

Group [E] – Angklung: angklung (shake)

Performance Notes

There are five groups of players: Rhythm [A], Balungan [B], Kotekan [C],

Recorders [D], and Angklung [E].

Groups [A] and [B] enter player by player and continue to the end of the

piece. Group [C] enters after [A] and [B], and continues until the pattern

changes at [E]. Recorders enter after group [C] and play through melody

once, ending at [E]. Recorders enter after group [C] and play through melody

once, ending at [E], where the Angklung enter. Repeat [E] a few times, then

return to [C]. End on the first note of [E], recorders and Angklung sustain the

final note for one bar, groups [A] and [B] play first note of pattern only.
