At the age of 35, I was already diagnosed with the 3-in-1, plus more, namely
Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Obesity, Gout problem, and
Sleep Apnea. Then, at the age of 50, I was told by a doctor that if I do not change
my lifestyle and my eating habits, I’m a walking time bomb.
I felt that time was running out
and if I were to not do anything,
I would end up being a health
problem and health burden to
my family, notwithstanding the
fact that I could end up on a
wheelchair or on crutches, or
worst of all having my limbs
amputated or becoming blind.
Two months ago, I was given the opportunity to attend the HOPE Program, a
4-week program whereby during the first week, we were given a CGM, a
Continuous Glucose Monitor which will monitor our blood sugar and we can eat
all we want as though it was our usual lifestyle.
Then the next 2 to 4 weeks, we were under the coaching and guidance of the
dietitian and doctor whereby the doctor suggested that because my readings
were already on the borderline, I could try dropping my insulin jabs totally, and
cut down a couple of the other medicines by half. I am happy to say that at the
end of the 4 weeks, my weight actually dropped from 84kg to below 80kg, and
at one point, it was 78.8 kg.
Moreover, my blood pressure is now very much within the healthy
range and I could sleep better and healthier.
