Opportunity awaits
passionate junior chef
PASSIONATE: Gabby Sanders has always had an
interest in cooking and says food can be used as a
way to bring people together.
Gabby Sanders is travelling to Australia to compete for a golden chef’s hat award.
Reporter Emily Moorhouse talks to Sanders about her unlikely favourite foods as
a child, her thought process behind a successful menu and why she is passionate
about cooking
GABBY SANDERS
remembers trying to help her
mum in the kitchen when she
was a little girl was probably
“quite annoying”.
But fast forward 20 years
and that curiosity in the kitchen
has paid off – next month
she will be in Melbourne
representing the South Island
in the grand finals of the 2022
Lengthy
delay in
centre
rebuild an
‘injustice’
• By Emily Moorhouse
AN 11-YEAR delay in rebuilding
a community facility has been
described as an “injustice” to a
“forgotten suburb”.
Shirley locals were
promised a new community
centre after the old one at 10
Shirley Rd was demolished
following the February 22, 2011
earthquake.
However, the city council is
only now starting the discussion
of a possible rebuild.
Community group Shirley
Road Central chair Jennifer
Dalziel has been advocating for
a rebuild since the old facility
was demolished, and described
the whole process as “hugely
frustrating”.
“My position is the injustice
of it,” she said.
“They call Shirley the forgotten
suburb, and recently with
Emmett St flooding and no
one came to do anything, it’s
like Shirley is just left out of
everything.”
Dalziel said the city council told
locals there would be a rebuild of
the centre at its original site but in
2016, the idea was dropped.
In 2018, there were two
feasibility studies carried out
but both were rejected, Dalziel
said.
WE ALL seem to be behaving
ourselves this holidays.
That is the report card of the
Christchurch North Community
Patrol, with chairman Sam Ha l
describing the summertime situation
as “pretty
good.”
Park and
picnic areas
have been on
the patrol radar,
standard for this
time of year.
“We haven’t
actua ly had to
report anything
from the picnic areas around,”
Ha l said.
“It was a l very family-orientated,
so it’s been quite good.”
More family groups than usual
seemed to be out, possibly because
the Covid-19 pandemic was preventing
people from leaving town
for a holiday, he said.
Being a frequent presence
was also helpful in deterring
incidents.
December and January were
also the time of year the patrol
focused on monitoring schools,
but no issues had arisen there
either.
Another summertime staple
was fire danger patrol.
No decision
yet to
appeal
declining of
rehabilitation
facility
• By Fiona E lis
THE DEPARTMENT of
Corrections has until February 9
to appeal after permission to build
a contentious rehabilitation centre
for violent offenders in St Albans
was declined.
However, it is remaining tightlipped
on whether or not it is likely
to do so.
Last week the Bristol Street
Resource Consent Hearing panel
declined to grant resource consent
for the Bristol St facility, fo lowing
a hearing in November.
The proposal would have seen
up to 12 men serving sentences
of home detention at 14 Bristol St
while participating in a violenceprevention
programme. Men
with significant untreated mental
health issues would not be eligible
to participate in the programme.
In their decision, city council
appointed commissioners Anthony
Hughes-Johnson QC and Ken
Lawn said they were not satisfied
the site was appropriate for such a
facility.
Corrections acting regional
commissioner Chris O’Brien-
Smith did not answer Nor’West
New’s question on whether an
appeal would be made, but said
corrections would spend the
next few weeks reflecting on the
commissioners’ findings.
Third feasibility study for centre under way
• From page 1
In May last year, Dalziel, along
with Shirley residents passionate
about the rebuild of the community
centre, created a petition
advocating for it. They gained more
than 1200 signatures from the
community.
They presented the petition, along
with two letters from Christchurch
East MP Poto Williams and
Christchurch Central MP Duncan
Webb, to the city council as part
of a submission for the Long Term
Plan. It was then agreed that a
feasibility study would be carried
out for the rebuild.
That feasibility study has begun
with staff gathering information on
cost estimates for four development
options.
City council head of community
support and partnerships John
Filsell said once the information
was gathered, a discussion will be
had with the Waipapa Papanui
Innes Community Board on how
the feasibility study should proceed.
The date for this
discussion is yet to be
finalised, Filsell said.
He said operational
funding for the feasibility
study was included in the
Long Term Plan and capital
funding of approximately
$3,000,000 has been set
aside in the plan over the
years 2030/31.
Innes Ward councillor Pauline
Cotter said she can understand why
Dalziel has described the process as
Pauline
Cotter
TOGETHERNESS: The Shirley Community Centre (pictured in
2008) was a space for locals and community groups to gather.
an “injustice”.
“I can empathise with the
community for having a
community centre that was
then gone,” she said.
“I feel like this area is
kind of almost last to have
areas restored . . . Shirley, in
particular, needs the stability.”
Cotter said she fought
alongside Papanui Ward
councillor Mike Davidson to
get the money for a feasibility
study allocated to the city council’s
Long Term Plan.
She said the wheels are starting to
turn now, and hopes the feasibility
study will be presented to the
community board by the end of
the year.
Dalziel said the whole process
has been an “uphill battle against
authorities” but has hope that
the community facility will be
restored.
“They’ve [city council] agreed to
do something but what it’s going to
be, we don’t know.”
Let’s use water
like we oughta
Christchurch and Banks Peninsula households
that regularly use much more water than
average will pay extra for their water supply
from October.
Most households are using less than 700 litres of water a day and won’t be charged.
Thanks for using water like you oughta!
A fairer way to manage our city’s water supply
We don’t charge ratepayers for water itself. We charge for delivering it
– through our network of pipes, pumps and other infrastructure.
When the district’s water use doubles over summer, the cost of
delivering water goes up significantly too. That increase in demand
isn’t spread evenly, with most of the increase due to a small
proportion of households.
When demand on our water supply network is at its peak we’re at risk
of not being able to supply enough water to properties, which could
have serious impacts on public health, and our ability to fight fires.
If everyone uses water like we oughta, we won’t need to spend as
much money expanding our water supply network, and it will also
improve the sustainability of our city’s water supply, which helps us
achieve our climate change goals.
Seek the leak and reduce your use
You can use our Water Reporter online tool to find out how much
water your household uses before charges come into effect in
October 2022 – visit ccc.govt.nz/WaterReporter
If your household is using a lot of water there might be a leak on
your property. You have time to find the leak and get it fixed.
Our website tells you about how to read your water meter, check for
leaks and reduce your water use*.
*Some properties’ water use is not recorded on the Water Reporter.
This includes: properties with a shared water meter, properties
that haven’t had their water meter read and properties without
a water meter.
How the new rate will work
The new rate will apply to any household that uses, on average,
more than 700 litres a day. We’ll read your water meter roughly
every 90 days, and for every 1000 extra litres you use during that
period, you’ll pay $1.35.
We know there are some reasons households might have high water
use. If any of these circumstances apply, you might be eligible for
a remission:
Unexpected high use due to a leak – if you can show the leak
was repaired promptly.
Personal circumstances such as medical conditions.
Families with nine members or more who are using water
responsibly.
High water users can expect to receive their first bill between January
and March 2023.
What does this mean for tenants and landlords?
The property owner, or the person who receives the property’s rates
bill, will also receive the excess water supply bill. The landlord must
pay the bill and can then ask the tenant to reimburse them.
If high water use is due to a leak, it’s the owner’s responsibility to get
it fixed and apply for a remission.
Landlords should let their tenants know they have a responsibility to
be good water users and will need to pay for excess water use.
Know and reduce your water use
‘The way it tastes is the most important’
• From page 1
Sanders, 23, won gold at the
regional heats to qualify for the
grand finals, held at Ara Institute
of Canterbury, where she is
studying towards a diploma in
cookery level 5.
She received gold for her twocourse
menu of hoisin glaze pork,
black vinegar dumpling and
umami broth and a dessert of
chai spice cake with pear, coffee,
pecan and white chocolate.
“It was surreal, it didn’t actually
feel real because I wasn’t
expecting it to happen at all,”
Sanders said.
She had competed in the heats
last year, narrowly missing out on
bronze so wanted to really push
herself this year.
Sanders will be competing
against 12 other chefs, with
one other chef from the North
Island and the rest from all over
Australia.
The winner will be awarded an
AU$10,000 cash prize, something
Sanders said would be an amazing
opportunity to help expand
her cooking equipment.
“I’d be able to go out and immerse
myself in the food culture
in Christchurch and around New
Zealand a wee bit more which
would be fantastic as well.”
While Sanders has always had
an interest in cooking, she never
considered it to be her professional
career.
After leaving Lincoln High
School, Sanders worked full-time
HELPING HAND: As a child, Gabby Sanders loved to help
her mother out in the kitchen. Here she is at three-yearsold
with a cake.
at a supermarket, still figuring
out what she wanted to do.
Her co-worker Jeremy, who was
going through a career change
to be a chef, encouraged her to
study cookery, so she decided to
give it a go and enrolled at Ara.
Sanders said she is still in
contact with Jeremy and he was
stoked to hear about her securing
a spot in the grand finals competition.
Sanders said her mother is an
“amazing” cook and growing up,
she was encouraged to eat like an
adult and try new things.
“We’d always be pushed to try
new things. As a kid some of my
favourite foods were blue cheese
and pâté and olives which lots of
kids don’t really enjoy.
“I really like how food sort of
brings people together, it’s something
to enjoy with a group.”
Sanders lives with her partner
in St Albans and when asked
if they enjoy her cooking she
laughed.
“You’d think so but we eat a lot
of curries and baked beans and
stuff, just general easy dinners.”
Although, she did say she’s
been enjoying cooking heavy,
richer meals during the colder
weather, such as lamb shanks and
beef stew.
She said the most challenging
thing to cook is anything she’s
unfamiliar with as it can take a
while to get her head around it.
“I think the hardest thing to
make is probably something
you’re too scared to have a go at .
. . [but] the only thing worse than
messing something up is just not
trying in the first place.”
Sanders is “hesitantly confident”
for the grand finals and
while she’s excited to give it a go,
she’s also still processing it all.
During the regional heats,
chefs were judged on presentation,
taste and the use of ingredients
down to how clean they
are in the kitchen, general food
handling and how much food
they waste.
“You’re being watched the
whole time, it’s a bit scary,” Sanders
said.
For each competition, chefs are
given a set ingredient list which
they have to build their menu
around.
Sanders said she likes to sit
down and brainstorm what flavours
would work well together
then, with the help of her tutors,
figure out the best way to execute
each piece of the dish.
“You can always tweak it and
improve it and everyone’s taste is
different,” she said.
“It’s a group effort to get
something down that majority of
people would enjoy eating.”
Sanders works on what the
dish will look like last, once she’s
nailed the taste.
“The way it tastes is the most
important because it could look
amazing and just taste awful and
there’s not much point in that.”
As for kitchen fails, nothing
sprung to mind for Sanders,
although she admitted she has
dropped and burnt her fair share
of things.
“When you mess something
up it’s how you deal with it and
make it work in the end, it’s
always a really good learning
experience because when you
make a big mistake you’re always
going to remember it and not do
it again.”
Outside of study, Sanders
works part-time at The Monday
Room as a commis chef, a job
she scored from completing work
experience there as part of her
study.
As a commis chef, Sanders
assists the other chefs with food
preparation, particularly working
on entrées and desserts, although
she said she likes to give everything
a go.
When Sanders graduates she
said she’s open to moving around
a bit and maybe spending some
time overseas but for now she is
happy where she is, doing what
she loves.
Animals on this design all endangered
MADDISON BOTT and Olivia
Lynch from Breens Intermediate
have won first place in Toi, the
country’s largest annual wearable
arts competition for schools.
Their entry, named Tomorrow
Is Too Late, highlights the plight
of endangered animals. The
duo said: “We are here to show
awareness for our endangered
animals around the world . . .
“All the animals on this
outfit are endangered and if we
don’t act now they will become
extinct, just like the dinosaurs.
Every little bit counts. One
person can make a difference.
Change now because tomorrow
is too late.”
The top 10 national finalists
in both the open and junior
sections have all won a sewing
machine from Bernina and a
World of WearableArt prize pack
Winners Maddison Bott,
Olivia Lynch and Olivia Varley
have won tickets to attend the
2022 World of WearableArt
show in Wellington and a
voucher from The Fabric Store.
Toi is now Aotearoa’s largest
wearable arts opportunity for
school students, produced in
collaboration with WOW. It
originated as part of performing
arts competition Showquest, but
rapidly grew into a standalone
platform due to enthusiasm and
demand the event organisers
saw from art, fashion and design
focused students.
FIRST PLACE: Breens Intermediate students Maddison
Bott and Olivia Lynch with their winning design.
The goal is for students to get
a taste of WOW while at school,
and to nurture budding young
designers who may one day enter
the globally celebrated WOW
competition. This year was the
biggest yet, with 285 individual
entries of wearable art garments
throughout the country.
Toi national producer Kelsey
Moller said: “Each year the
creativity, construction and
out-of-the-box thinking steps
up a notch. We were blown away
by the ideas and stories students
brought to life in their garments
this year.”
Teams were judged by Dame
Suzie Moncrieff and Heather
Palmer from WOW on four
main areas -–concept, originality
and innovation, quality of
construction, and health and
safety (how safe the garment was
for the model to wear and move
around in).
Finish your roast meal with a
Venison roast
Serves 4
1 salt and freshly ground pepper
700g lamb roast
2 cloves garlic
Ingredients
Directions
Marinade:
½ cup red wine
1 cinnamon quill, crushed
2 star anise
6 whole cloves
1 tbsp honey
Small strip orange peel
1 tbsp olive oil
Roast:
400g venison
Freshly ground black pepper to
taste
2 tbsp olive oil
Sauce:
1 cup (250ml) meat glaze or
good beef stock
Directions
To make the marinade, combine
wine, spices, honey and orange
peel in a saucepan. Slowly bring
to the boil. Simmer for 1 minute,
then cool. When cold, add olive
oil.
Place venison in a plastic bag.
Pour marinade over. Move meat
around so it is well coated. Refrigerate
for at least one hour or up to
8 hours.
Return to room temperature
before cooking. Preheat oven to
200 deg C.
Remove meat from marinade
and pat dry. Reserve marinade for
the sauce. Season.
Heat olive oil in a pan. Sear
venison until lightly browned
on all sides. Place in a small
roasting pan in the oven. Roast
for 20-25 minutes for medium
rare.
Remove from oven and tent
with foil. Cover with a thick towel
and stand for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, strain marinade
and bring to the boil. Add
meat glaze or stock and simmer
for 1-2 minutes. Serve with the
venison.
Great accompanied by baby red
jacket potatoes, plus 4cm cubes
of pumpkin and large broccoli
florets, roasted with the venison.
Tomato-stuffed mini lamb
roasts with roast garlic
Serves 4
Ingredients
⅓ cup tomato pesto
⅓ cup ground almonds
2 tbsp fresh oregano
Heat oven to 200 deg C. To make
the stuffing, place sun dried pesto,
ground almonds and chopped
fresh oregano in a bowl. Season
with salt and pepper to taste and
mix to combine.
Trim any fat or sinew from
the lamb (use 2 x 350g roasts).
Season on both sides with salt
and pepper and lay out flat on a
board, skin-side down. Spread
stuffing over the lamb pieces and
roll them up to contain filling. Tie
pieces with string to secure them
into two parcels.
Heat an ovenproof pan, add
two tablespoons oil and sear lamb
parcels for five minutes, turning
to brown all over.
Add two gloves of garlic, cut
in half to the pan and place in the
oven to roast for 25 minutes for
medium-rare.
chocolate dessert or cake
150gm unsalted butter, softened
75gm caster sugar
4 large free-range eggs,
separated
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
150gm ground almonds or
toasted hazelnuts
12 toasted hazelnuts, reserved
for decoration
50gm dark chocolate, grated, to
decorate
Chocolate mousse:
150gm dark chocolate, coarsely
chopped
30gm unsalted butter, cubed
4 large free-range eggs,
separated
Banana, coconut and
chocolate cake
Serves 4
Ingredients
200gm milk chocolate
1 large ripe banana, peeled and
mashed
2 tsp vanilla essence
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tbsp canola oil
1 cup coconut milk
¾ cup cane sugar
2 and ½ cups plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
¾ cup desiccated coconut
Directions
Directions
For the cake, preheat oven to
170 deg C. Grease a 22cm spring
form cake tin and line the base
and sides with baking paper.
Place the chocolate and coffee
in a bowl set over a saucepan
one-quarter full of simmering
water to melt. Or microwave in
short bursts. Stir until smooth
then set aside. Place butter and
sugar in a bowl and beat with
an electric mixer until pale and
creamy.
Add vanilla and egg yolks, one
at a time, beating well after each
addition. Beat in the chocolate
mixture and then stir in the
ground hazelnuts.
In a clean bowl, whisk egg
whites until stiff peaks form. Use
a large metal spoon to fold the
egg whites into the chocolate
mixture in two additions. Pour
mixture into prepared tin and
smooth the surface. Bake for
40 minutes or until an inserted
skewer comes out clean. Remove,
cool in the tin.
For the mousse, place chocolate
and butter in a bowl set over
a saucepan one-quarter full of
simmering water to melt. Or
microwave in short bursts.
Stir until smooth. Add egg
yolks, one at a time, stirring to
combine. In a clean bowl, whisk
egg whites until stiff peaks form.
Fold egg whites into the chocolate
mixture in two additions. The
mixture may appear to split but
keep folding and it will come
together.
To assemble, pour the mousse
onto the cooled cake while it is
still in the tin. Refrigerate for
at least 4 hours, or preferably
overnight.
To serve, release the spring.
Use a small knife to help ease the
paper away from the cake. Peel
off the paper and discard. Use
a hot knife to cut the torte into
wedges.
Decorate with reserved
hazelnuts and grated chocolate.
Heat the oven to 180 deg C.
Lightly grease and flour a 20-
21cm square cake pan. Line the
base with baking paper. Break
chocolate into squares. Cut each
square in half.
Combine mashed banana,
vanilla essence, eggs, oil and coconut
milk. Stir in the sugar. Sift
the flour and baking powder over
the banana mixture. Fold in the
coconut using a spatula. Fold in
the chocolate — do not over-mix.
Spoon into the cake pan.
Bake for 50 minutes, or until
a skewer inserted in the centre
comes out clean. Cool in the pan
for 10 minutes then turn out on
to a wire rack.
Netball that isn’t
hard on the body
• By Jaime Cunningham
ON A freezing Tuesday
night in Christchurch,
16 walking netball
fanatics, including two
who had never played
the game before, turn up
to ‘Wiggle and Giggle’
at Christchurch’s only
walking netball group.
Christchurch Netball
Centre has run walking
netball for almost five
years every Wednesday
morning at Hagley Park.
Unlike standard netball,
walking netball players
must keep at least part of
their foot always in contact
with the ground, so no
jumping or running is allowed.
The slower version of
netball spiked in popularity
across the world around
2017, with many clubs in
countries like Australia,
England and New Zealand
establishing walking netball
groups.
After hosting two successful
night sessions this
winter, the Christchurch
group is looking to grow.
CNC activator Julia van
Dyk says, in the past, the
group has included people
with disabilities, those
coming back from sporting
injuries and people who
just want to stay active.
By hosting the two night
sessions at the Bishopdale
YMCA, those who would
normally work on a
Wednesday morning have
been able to join in, too.
Long-time walking
netball volunteer Trudi
MacKenzie has been participating
since CNC first
established the group
almost five years ago and
has led its organisation for
the last three years.
“Sometimes I feel like I
laugh more in that hour
(of netball) than for the
rest of the week. It’s just
really good physically and
mentally.”
MacKenzie says the
number of participating
had dropped during the
Covid pandemic. Before
the virus hit New Zealand
in 2020, the CNC had
three full walking netball
teams.
“We now struggle to
get two full teams, and
normally have about 10 to
12 playing.”
Allan Williams is one of
two original walking netball
members still playing
this year.
Despite sporting a few
bandages and a slight
weakness in one arm, he
is a handy defender in the
shooting circle.
Until five years ago, he
had “never played netball
in [his] life”.
Williams says he enjoys
walking netball because
it has kept him fit and
helped him lose more than
seven kilograms in six
months.
He’s been pushing for
more days of walking
netball events though
recognises Covid has put
off some.
Van Dyk hopes that
when the $20 million
netball and futsal centre at
Nga Puna Wai is finished
more people will join
walking netball at the new
indoor facility.
CNC’s walking netball
is held at at Hagley Netball
Courts from 10-11.30am
every Wednesday.
RD Petroleum (RDP) is a familiar sight
for farm and rural residents around the
Canterbury region, however now days urban
residents also enjoy the same excellent
customer service for which RDP is known for
in rural communities, through their home
heating diesel.
RDP began its home heating diesel delivery
service to the lower South Island’s main urban
centres of Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin
and Invercargill a number of years ago.
Customer demand has continued to increase
year upon year, and RDP has responded
with specialised improvements to its delivery
equipment.
The trucks that deliver RDP’s home heating
diesel in each urban centre are drawn from
the company’s extensive vehicle fleet. This
means they have the latest communication
and GPS tracking technology on board, so
the operations team always know where they
are and how far away they are from their next
delivery stop.
RDP’s home heating diesel trucks come
equipped with a specially-designed hose,
through which the diesel is pumped from
the truck into house tanks. The length of
the hose allows the trucks to access tanks
without having to enter the property, avoiding
damaging the driveway. RDP is the place to
go if you require diesel conveniently delivered
to your home and as a loyal RDP customer
you’re offered discounted pricing and can
become eligible for value-added benefits.
HOME & HEATING
Ground moisture barrier
under low sub-floor
Now with the colder and wetter weather on
its way, home owners are focusing on ways
to make their homes comfortable, warm
and healthy for their families throughout
winter. Rising damp is an issue that affects
many of our older properties which suffer
from poor, or no, ground moisture barrier.
In Canterbury especially, post-quake, many
people have relocated to homes that suffer
from rising damp which can be associated
with health problems. Independent tests have
shown that up to 40 litres of water can rise
from the ground and enter a house every day,
leading to mildew, mould, condensation and
musty smells. Moulds can produce various
allergic reactions and the frail, elderly and
very young are especially vulnerable.
Canterbury Foam Concrete Ltd is a
locally owned and operated firm. The team
understands the problems caused by rising
damp and are there to help. They will come
to your damp home and pump a lightweight,
flowable foam concrete under your timber
floored home.
While insulation is important, it has been
recognised that it is dampness that is the real
villain in the house. The new Healthy Homes
Standards introduced by the government
effective from the 1st July 2019 now has
a requirement to install ground moisture
barriers, a key element in the armory to fight
moisture in the home.
Dr Larry Bellamy BE (hons) PhD in a
report dated 1988: Foam Concrete Under
Timber Floors: An Energy Analysis assessed
the effects of placing Foam Concrete over
damp soil and had this to say: Condensation
on the underside of a timber floor can occur
where the floor is suspended over damp
ground and the inside air temperature falls
close to the crawl space air temperature.
Much energy is required to vaporize moisture
that penetrates the structure. By avoiding
underfloor condensation, foam concrete can
reduce floor heat losses by up to 90%.
• Canterbury Foam Concrete Ltd can in most
cases, install a Ground Moisture Barrier
under the suspended wooden floor of your
home, even when there is no crawl space.
regions by arrangement.
What makes a great
Heat Transfer System?
There are a number of Heat Transfer
systems on the market. Smooth-Air
ventilation specialists offer a range of HTU
Heat Transfer Units with carefully selected
components to optimise the system:
They use insulated duct to transfer
the heated air with as little heat loss as
possible. The fan moves sufficient air
for the distance and number of rooms,
without being noisy. The diffusers send the
heat to the floor, not to skim the across the
ceilings. All components are good quality
- designed to operate for years without
problems.
Smooth-Air’s HTUs come in a range
of options: One to four rooms, with or
without thermostat and with a choice
of grilles and diffusers. HTUs improve
energy efficiency in your house, as you
are using excess heat. They have low
power consumption - only 80watts for
the three room system. Circulating
air through the house also reduces the
risk of damp.
You can also choose the HTU
version with downjet diffusers, which
throw the warm air downwards to
the floor. These downjet diffusers can
also be adjusted to regulate which
room receives the most warm air.
An average size living room requires
2-4 kw of heating, yet appliances such
as log burners generate heat in the
region of 10 -20kw. This leaves an
excess of 8 -16kw of heat which sits at
high level in the heated room, usually
above door level.
Heat transfer units work best where very
hot air has ‘stratified’ into a layer near the
ceiling. So heat pumps, which circulate
warm air around the room with no
layering, are not suitable as a heat source
by themselves. However, if you have both
log burner and a heat pump, heat transfer
systems with thermostat can work very
well: The heat pump stops operating once
the heat from the fire has heated the room,
and the heat transfer kicks in above this
point, once there is a layer of hot air at the
ceiling.
Contact Smooth-Air on
0800 SMOOTH (0800 766 684) to ask
how they can help you with your Heat
Transfer, as well as any other ventilation
requirements.
Public Notices
Enrolment 2023
The Board invites applications
from parents who wish
to enrol their children at
Casebrook Intermediate
School for 2023.
Enrolments can be made
through the school website.
www.casebrook.school.nz
The deadline for receipt of
applications for out-of-zone
places is 31st August 2022.
Parents of students who
live within the home zone
should also apply by this date
to assist the school to plan
appropriately for next year.
Because the board operates
an enrolment scheme, it is
required to fill any vacant
out-of-zone places by
ballot in cases where there
are more applications for
enrolment than there are
places available.
The board has determined
that 100 places are likely to
be available to out-of-zone
students for 2023.
