In Loving Memory of
Deborah G. Krotenberg
Deborah Krotenberg moved to Atlanta, Georgia from her home in Queens,
New York where she earned her JD from Emory University. She began her career
as an attorney in workers’ compensation for Alex Byers in Columbus and later
came to Zirkle and Hoffman in Atlanta.
A catastrophic car accident in 1995 during a trip to Florida rendered Deborah
a quadriplegic, and after a year of hospitalization and rehabilitation in Florida
and New York, Deborah rebuilt her life. Determined to be independent, she
moved back to Atlanta where she was supported by her long-time caregiver,
Charlotte Jackson. Because of the amazing support she received from Charlotte,
family, friends and colleagues, Deborah thrived.
Deborah served as the Director of Rehabilitation and Managed Care at the
Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation from September 1, 2001, until
her death on February 10, 2022. She was actively involved in her synagogue
life at Congregation Bet Haverim (CVH), and Shepherd Center, where she served
on the Board and was an active peer supporter. She also spoke regularly to
students in schools about seat belt safety.
Deborah was an inspiration by how she lived and celebrated her life and was
never defeated by the challenges she confronted. She was a passionate advocate
for the workers’ compensation system and felt her job allowed her to make
a real difference in the lives of those who had suffered serious work-related
injuries. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved dancing, comic improvisation,
speeding in her power wheelchair, spending time with friends and family, and
her beloved service dogs. She was bright, beautiful, fearless, passionate, loyal,
and notoriously generous, and we will truly miss her.

Welcome
to our Annual
Conference
Welcome to the State Board’s Annual Educational Conference. We are so glad to be back in person for the first time since 2019.
Our theme this year is “Return of the Champions”. You may have heard that the Braves won the World Series, and the Dawgs
won the college football national championship. That’s right folks. Go Braves and Go Dawgs! Such amazing seasons by both
teams last year and so much positive momentum going into 2022. We are harnessing that energy and have arranged an
excellent agenda covering legal, medical, insurance, rehabilitation, and ethics issues, just to name a few.
We will of course discuss the pandemic and its impact on the workers’ compensation system in several ways, but importantly
we are returning to the field and look forward to gathering together for a great conference. On Wednesday, please join us
to hear from Morris Morrison—author, speaker, show host, and owner of Windmill Park Media. He will deliver our keynote
address “Winning with Ethics, Decency and Diligence” and share a powerful message about culture, community, and your role
in today’s American Dream.
And speaking of winning, the State of Georgia is the top state for business for the 8th year in a row. Under Governor Brian
Kemp’s leadership, we continue to see optimistic signs such as expanding economic development, increasing job numbers,
and maintaining a low unemployment rate. On a similar note, the Georgia workers’ compensation system remains stable and
balanced. I would like to thank all of our Board employees for their dedication and resourcefulness during the trying times of
the pandemic to keep our operations intact and on time. Great job!
We hope that you enjoy the State Board’s 2022 Annual Educational Conference. The Board extends its sincerest gratitude to
the speakers, presenters, and organizers for their exceptional contributions to each program. We are especially thankful to the
members of the Steering Committee for their time and hard work in putting together a championship caliber agenda. Finally,
thank you to our vendors, sponsors, and Board employees for your participation in making this year’s conference another
big victory.
Sincerely,
Benjamin J. Vinson
Chairman

The go-to choice for catastrophic
cases National
Ancillary Services for
Workers’ Compensation.
We do more than understand
the challenges
for claims adjusters and
injured workers. We’ve
fixed them. CorLife was
founded in 2011 with a
team of ATPs and therapists
who had seen
first-hand the frustration
that injured workers and
insurance carriers felt
when trying to secure
medical equipment,
home healthcare and
other supplies for individuals
whose lives had
just been turned upside
down. Since its founding,
CorLife has been
focused on doing things
differently by building
close, trusting relationships
with claims adjusters.
We are committed to
doing whatever it takes
to exceed the needs of
our clients and providing
a foundation for critically
injured workers to recover
and thrive.
