LETTER
Proverbs 23:7, "For as he thinks in his
heart, so is he: Eat and drink, he says to
you; but his heart is not with you."
One of the most amazing gifts that God
has given us is the human mind. The
ability to learn, to think, to choose, and
reason is the essence of what makes us
human. While the ability to think makes
us human, it actually goes deeper. Your
thoughts become a reflection of who
you really are. and God knows this, and
He speaks to this in various places all
throughout His word.
"For as he thinks in his heart, so is he:
Eat and drink, he says to you; but his
heart isn't with you."
What we see in this verse is a person
who is saying one thing with their
mouth — but their heart is in a
completely different place. We've all
been there....so which one "WINS" out?...
Which one do you believe? You believe
what’s in the heart. The thoughts and
inclinations of the heart shape the
reality of who you are. They shape your
thinking which will ultimately shape your actions. What you "THINK" about matters, because it
is forming the basis of who you will become.
There is something about this verse that can not be overlooked. Who you are on the inside and
what you say on the outside, don’t always line up. The Pharisees, for example, were very good
at presenting themselves as very pious, devout, religious people, yet Jesus called them
hypocrites. The word hypocrite in the Greek means actor. The Pharisees were playing a role on
the outside that didn’t reflect who they really were. If you need to know who a person really is,
you can’t always determine that by the things they say, Jesus said you will know a tree by its
fruit. The fruit of the tree is simply a reflection of the ROOT it’s connected to. You will never
get an orange from an apple tree root. The core of who you are is evidenced by the thoughts or
roots of your heart. That’s why what is on the inside is so much more important than what is on
the outside. You can mask the outside to others, and you can try to bury it to the world around
you. But, ultimately, what’s in your heart will reveal who you really are.
The core or the underlying meaning of Proverbs 23:7 is that of hypocrisy. You say one thing but
you really don’t mean it. It’s like the unethical salesperson who will tell you what you WANT to
hear in order to make the sale. The bottom line is: God hates hypocrisy.
Tim and Missy Kinchen make up the group called Chronicle. They have been married 35
years with about 27 of those in ministry together. Both have jobs with Tim working as an
employee for the Town of Walker and Missy working as a private duty nurse and geriatric
nurse. Tim and Missy have one son, Tim Kinchen, Jr. He played drums with them in their
family ministry for years. He is married to Christie and they have one son, Kolsen, who is 7
years old and Tim and Missy's pride and joy.
Tim began playing saxophone at the age of 13. He would spend a lot of his years traveling
across Louisiana with his parents and he and his brother, Bubba, would help with music
for the revivals. Today, if you see Tim and Missy, you will see them singing, Tim playing the
saxophone, and above all else both praising our Savior.
MIssy recalls her favorite moment getting to play in Silver Dollar City and Dollywood. They
have been nominated in the Top 5 for Duet of the Year Singing News Magazine, Duet of
the Year Christian Voice Magazine 2020, and Sonrise Duet of the Year SGN Scoops 2019
There they were. Scribbled into harsh
reality on the white indifference of a
page. Every awful and ugly decision I’ve
ever made punctured the once pristine
paper in sharp twisted letters. They were
cruel words that made me wince. Words
that stabbed at the fabric of my
bandaged heart. In a sudden and
violent sweep, I ripped the ruinous
record from my journal and crushed it
into a ball to be promptly thrown away.
What an awful story.
When I was in grade school, my English
teachers often required students to turn
in a rough draft before we wrote a final
paper. I received many rough drafts
back covered in bold red ink. In large
elegant handwriting, suggested edits
and helpful corrections blanketed my
rough drafts from middle to margin.
Some words and phrases would be
completely crossed out; some sections
wound up buried beneath half a page of
exhortations. Sometimes it was hard to
tell if there was more red ink or pencil,
but with a heavily marked up amended
draft, I could write a final paper that
would grammatically and intellectually
shine.
I looked at the paper I’d just crumpled in
my hands. The words crushed beneath
were painful to read, but a Teacher once
took a bloody pen to the original
composition. Tears dripped onto my lap
as I remembered the day my story
changed forever.
And you, being dead in your sins and
the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he
ELISE INGLE
quickened together
with him, having
forgiven you all
trespasses; blotting out
the handwriting of
ordinances that was
against us, which
was contrary to us, and took it out of the
way, nailing it to his cross;” Col 2:13-14
Jesus completely rewrote my script the
day He saved me. When I crawled to the
altar and accepted He died for my sin
and rose again, Jesus handed me a
revised version of my twisted tale. In
broad strokes of grace He redeemed the
characters, removed the shame, and
totally rephrased the narrative of my life.
My past hasn’t changed, and it is still
hard to look at on paper-but there are
permanent and distinctive marks Christ
has placed upon it. There is hope in my
story now, and forgiveness and healing.
God has given me beauty for ashes, life
from death, and riches from ruin. Only
Jesus can rewrite a story drenched in
such darkness to illuminate the Savior.
Whatever your story is, even if you’ve
balled it up and purposed it for the
waste bin, I implore you: Turn it over to
Jesus. The pen in His nail-scarred hand
never runs out of ink. Let Him rewrite
your past and your destiny. He is the
author of the greatest story ever told.
You can trust His edits, and heed His
admonitions. And best of all, when your
story becomes His story, it will shine.

Reflections from
Mayberry
/ by Greg & Donna Journey
The month of August always brings
memories of gardening, canning and
many hot days in the tobacco field
here in Mayberry. When you lived on a
farm as I did, there was always
something to do from sunup until
sundown. I can still close my eyes and
see my Grandpa Walt plowing the
fields. I can still close
my eyes and see my
Grandpa Walt plowing
the fields with his mule
(Old Pete). As I grew a
little older, Old Pete
was replaced by a
tractor. I can also
remember learning
how to hand tie
tobacco onto sticks and hang it in the
tobacco barn. Eventually that was
replaced with an electric tobacco
twinner. We worked hard and then
came in and all sat down together for
our meals. I can't help but think it
would be a better world today if more
quality time was spent around our
dinner tables together.
I realize times change and most folks
say for the better, but I'm not so sure. I
feel our families have suffered as this
so called progress has come to be. I'm
sad that my son, Ben, will never get to
experience the world I grew up in
where there were no cell phones, no
computers, and no internet.
Change is a good
thing, but let's all
try to take time to
smell the roses
and spend more
quality time with
our families. I'm
talking to myself
too! Slow down,
enjoy life, and
enjoy your family.
Do you need prayer?
Our prayer team stands
ready to pray for you.
