Angelonia angustifolia hybrid
Summer Adessa series Snapdragon, Summer Orchid
Adessa Angelonia, series Summer Snapdragon
Product Use: Pots and mixed containers.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Day Neutral.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC Range: 2.0-3.5 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in a
105 tray in 3-4 weeks. A rooting hormone
is recommended.
Apply mist every 15-20 minutes upon sticking
for the first 1-2 days. Change that to every
30 minutes by day 3 as long as cuttings
are turgid and no wilting is seen. Mist can
continue to be done as angelonias prefer a
longer misting (7-8 days) schedule than other
crops. The medium should be moist but not
wet. Use a bottom heat of 70-75°F (21-24°C)
during callusing and initial root development
and an air temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C)
and nights several degrees cooler to no lower
than 68°F (20°C) Once rooting has started
lower bottom heat to 68-72°F. (20-21°C).
Cuttings start to callus in about 4-6 days.
Light: 500-1000 F.C. (5382-10,764 Lux)
Increase to 1000-2000 F.C. (10,764-
21,528 Lux) once rooting has begun. No
supplemental light is necessary but definitely
do not shade cuttings.
Use a fertilizer rate of 50-75 N (15-0-15) once
roots have started to emerge and increase to
100 ppm as the roots develop. Pinch plants
after they have started rooting– around 15-20
days after sticking.
Growth Regulators: To reduce stretch, use
1500 ppm B-Nine/750 ppm Cycocel spray.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 3.5-5 mS via SME
Transplant rooted liners to 4 in. (10.15 cm.)
pot and grow on days at 76-78°F (24-26°C)
and nights 5-8 degrees cooler.
Keep in mind that Angelonias are a
warm season plant and prefer bright light
and a higher temperatures than many
plants grown for spring flowering on the
greenhouse bench. Keep plants moderately
moist with slight dry periods. Do not keep
the plants wet all the time.
Light: use 5,000-9000 F.C. (53,820-96,875
Lux). Supplemental light is not needed – just
high light during daytime hours.
Fertilizer: 200-250 ppm of a 15-5-15
alternated with 20-10-20.
Pinch: One terminal pinch after transplanting,
and plants are rooted in the pot, is
recommended. This is usually 12-14 days
after transplanting from the liner.
Growth regulators: 2500 ppm B-Nine
spray or a spray of combined 2500 ppm
B-Nine/1000 ppm Cycocel spray.
Pests: Angelonias are relatively free of pests.
However, Thrips and Aphids can be an issue.
6
www.benaryplus.com

Diseases: Botrytis and Pythium are the most
common. However, watering in the morning
or early afternoon so the plants are dry by
nightfall will keep these to a minimum.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 3-4 week
rooted liner; a 4.5-5 in. (12-13 cm.)
containers using 1 plant per pot takes
6-8 weeks. 6 in. (15 cm.) 2 plants per
pot and 1 gallon pots 3 plants per
pot take 9-11 weeks. In northern
locations these will not be flower in
spring but will flower more readily as
the days get longer and daytime
temperatures become warmer.
Adessa Marguerite series Daisy
Product Use: Pots and mixed containers.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Day Neutral.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 0.9-1.3 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in a
105 tray in 3-4 weeks and remove any
developing flower buds. A rooting hormone
is not necessary.
Apply mist every 15-20 minutes upon sticking
for the first 1-2 days. Change that to every
30 minutes by day 3 as long as cuttings
are turgid and no wilting is seen. Mist can
continue to be reduced every day or so as the
cuttings start to callus. After rooting maintain
moist media conditions (Level 3 to 4) but not
overly wet.
Use a bottom bottom heat of 68-72°F (20-
22°C) and nights the same. In addition, use a
similar air temperature.
Light: 1,000-2,000 F.C. (10,764-21,528 Lux).
Daylength extension is not needed.
Fertilizer: 100 ppm N once rooted-around
15-20 days after sticking. Cuttings start to
root 8-10 days after sticking the cuttings.
Pinching: Not recommended.
Growth Regulators: On more vigorous
varieties use a mix of 1500 ppm B-Nine/1000
ppm Cycocel spray to keep growth in check.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 1.5-2.1 mS via SME
Transplant rooted liners to 4 in. pot and grow
on days at 68-70°F (20-21°C) and nights 5-8
degrees cooler. Cooler temperatures make for
a well branched plant as well as less need for
a growth regulator. Keep air temperatures less
than 70°F (22°C) as plants appreciate cooler
temperatures once rooted in the final container.
As for moisture, keep plants watered but
allow to dry slightly (Level 2) but then water to
a Level of 3 or 4.
Lighting: 4,000-6,000 F.C. (43,056-
64,583 lux) maintaining high light days but
supplemental light is not necessary.
For fertilizer, use 150-200 ppm of a 15-5-15
alternated with 20-10-20.
Pinching: A terminal pinch is recommended
8-10 days after transplanting.
Growth regulators: B-Nine spray or a spray
of combined 2500 ppm B-Nine/1000 ppm
Cycocel or a Bonzi spray of 5-10 ppm.
Pests: Thrips, Spider Mites and Aphids are
the most common. Leafminers can also be a
problem but are not as common.
Diseases: Botrytis and Pythium are the most
common. However, watching how much you
water should keep these to a minimum.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 3-4 week
rooted liner: 4-5 in. (10-12 cm.) using 1
plant per pot takes 6-8 weeks to finish upon
transplanting a rooted liner. 6 in. (15 cm.)
and 1 gallon pots take 11-15 weeks
from transplant.

Flowering Type: Day Neutral.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 0.9-1.3 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will start to root
in 7-8 days in a 105 tray. A rooting hormone
is not necessary. A low to moderate mist
should be discontinued 2-3 days after the
cuttings have been stuck and cuttings are
turgid (stiff). CapSil can be sprayed on the
cuttings at a rate of 1-2 oz/100 gallons of
water to help rehydrate the cuttings. You
can use this the first or second day after
sticking. Definitely avoid wilting. Misting can
be reduced day 3 and ongoing. Use a bottom
temperature of 70-72°F (21-22°C) and air
temperatures 70-80°F (21-27°C). Roots
develop in 7-9 days.
Light: 1,000-2,000 F.C. (10,764-21,528
Fertilizer: A light level of less than 100 ppm N
can be applied once rooted. Increase to 200
ppm using a calcium-magnesium fertilizer.
Pinch: One pinch is recommended just prior
to transplanting.
Growth Regulators: On more vigorous
varieties use 1500 ppm B-Nine to keep
growth in check.
Pests: Fungus Gnats.
Diseases: Root rots are common like
Rhizoctonia and Pythium.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 1.5-2.1 mS via SME
Growth regulators: A B-Nine application
of 1500-2000 ppm helps to keep the plants
in check. A Bonzi drench (0.5 ppm) several
weeks before finishing is also helpful.
Pests: Thrips, Spidermites and Aphids.
Diseases: Botrytis, Rhizoctonia and Pythium.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a rooted 4-5
week old liner: 4-5 in. pots (10-12 cm.) (1
plant per pot) take 8-10 weeks to finish upon
transplanting a rooted liner while 10 in. (25
cm.) pot take 10-11 weeks with 3 or 4 liners
per pot.
Transplant one liner to a 4-5 in. (10-12 cm.)
pot and grow on with temperatures 70-72°F
(21-22°C) days and nights 6-8 degrees
cooler. Bidens will tolerate cooler night
temperatures so they are easily manipulated
in height control with cooler temperatures.
Media should be allowed to dry down slightly
between waterings. Plants prefer to be
moderately moist but not wet–which leads to
root rots.
Light: 4-6,000 F.C. (43,056-64,583 Lux). Grow
on with normal daylength without needed for
an extended day or night interruption.
Fertilizer: Use a medium fertilizer level of
200-250 ppm at every watering. Keep plants
moist but not wet.
Pinching: Is not usually needed if a pinch
was given during propagation. If it wasn’t
then a soft pinch of the terminal growing point
is recommended. If side branches develop
quickly they can be trimmed slightly but this is
done within 2-3 weeks of transplanting.
Buddleja cultivars
Summer Bird series
Butterfly Bush
Perennial. Hardy to zones 5-9
Product Use: Pots and mixed containers.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Long day obligate.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 1.0-1.3 mS via SME
USDA hardiness zone: 5-9
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in
a 105 tray in 4-5 weeks at 65-75°F (18-
24°C) and an air temperatures of 70-75°F
(21-23°C). Use a 1000 ppm quick dip IBA
rooting hormone. Use mist every 20-30
minutes for the first 2 days but do not allow
leaves to have visible moisture over night
unless cuttings are wilted–then use a several
second mist every 30 minutes. Careful of
overwatering, especially free-standing water
on leaves at night, as Buddleija can easily rot.
An adjuvant, such as CapSil, can be sprayed
1-2 days after sticking. A fungicide spray
can also be used. Mist can continue to be
reduced every day (mist every hour on days
4-5 and every 2 hours and by day 9, mist
should be every 2 hours or so as the cuttings
start to callus.
One additional note: Buddleija cuttings
can be brought in the previous year, rooted,
potted and overwintered for spring sales the
following year.
Light: 1,000-2,000 F.C. (10,764-21,528 Lux)
for the first several days and can be increased
to 3,000-3,500 F.C. (32,292-37,674 Lux)
once the cuttings remain turgid. Short days
(

the terminal flower was. One additional point,
pinches taken too late will add to crop time.
In general, plants require 5-6 weeks to flower
after pinching well developed plants.
Growth regulators: A 2,500 ppm B-Nine
spray will help in keeping plants dwarf. Also a
5 ppm spray of Sumagic can be used instead
of B-Nine.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 105 tray:
Rooted liners are potted to gallons (1 plant
per pot) and will finish in 9-11 weeks upon
transplanting while a 2 gallon pot takes 14-16
weeks with 2-3 plants per pot.
Pests: Aphids and Spider Mites are the
most common but Buddleijas have also
gotten Leafhoppers, Leaf Miners, Thrips
and White Fly.
Diseases: Usually not an issue but
overwatering can make the plants more
susceptible to Rhizoctonia, Pythium and
Phytophthora. Other pathogens can include
Thielaviopsis and Botrytis.
Coreopsis verticillata
Corleone series
Threadleaf coreopsis
Perennial. Hardy to zones 5-9
Product Use: Pots and garden.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Long day obligate.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
Cuttings: Place unrooted cuttings in a 105
or 72 tray (using 2 cuttings per cell) and mist
every 15-20 minutes for 1-2 days as they
become turgid. This is a critical point. This
class does not like an overly moist media
during propagation so start to reduce mist
by the 2nd day unless cuttings appear to
be wilted. Use a bottom heat of 70-72°F
(21-22°C) and air temperatures 4-6°F (-15 to
-14ºC) degrees higher. 105 rooted liners can
be transplanted 5-7 weeks after sticking
while a 72 will take 2-3 weeks longer. A
rooting hormone is recommended using
500-1000 ppm.
Light: 1,000-2,000 F.C. (10,764-21,528 Lux).
Night interruption is not necessary.
Fertilizer: Use 15-0-15 at 50-75 ppm 10-12
days after sticking once roots have started to
develop out of the callus.
Pinch: One pinch is recommended
to increase branching shortly before
transplanting to the final container.
Growth Regulators: Not needed. The pinch
will suffice and help to start basal branching.
Light: Use light levels of 5-6000 F.C.
(53,820 – 64,583 Lux). A cold treatment
along with short days is beneficial to
enhance bulking of 58-64°F (14-18°C).
Night temperatures of 41-48°F (5-9°C)
once plants are fully rooted keep the plants
from growing too quickly. Using a negative
DIF will keep the plants short. Coreopsis
verticillata does not require vernalization to
flower. Shorter days will also help in keeping
plants from flowering (March) which helps to
reduce the need for growth regulators.
Fertilizer: Use a calcium magnesium
fertilizer (15-0-15) level of 150-200 ppm.
As the days become longer and warmer
alternate with 20-10-20 Allow the media to
dry slightly between waterings.
Pinching: At least one pinch of the side
branches will make a fuller plant.
Growth regulators: A 1500 ppm B-Nine
application keeps plants in check.
Pests & Diseases: Powdery mildew and
Aphids. As for diseases, water early in the
day so that the foliage is dry before the end
of the day.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 5-7 week old
105 rooted cutting: a 4 in. (10 cm.) pot takes
from 8-11 weeks upon planting. A 72 rooted
liner planted to a 1 gallon will take from 9-14
weeks to finish for spring sales.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: .8-1.0 via the extraction method
Transplant rooted liners to 4-5 in. (10-12
cm.) pots (72’s to gallons) and with daytime
temperatures at 70-75°F (22-24°C) until roots
in the final container have developed.
mist every 20 minutes for the 1 or 2 days).
Dahlias sometimes wilt upon first sticking.
However, they should become more turgid
within hours. If they don’t, a spray adjuvant
(such as CapSil) should be applied within
the first 1 or 2 days. As typical with most
unrooted annual plants, misting should be
significantly decreased by the third day
as long as the cuttings are fully hydrated.
Plants are under mist for 5-9 days and keep
them moderately moist and avoid wet to
dry procedures.
Light: Root cuttings under long days
to prevent tuber formation using night
interruption for a 14 hour day (but no greater
than 16 hours). 1200 F.C. (12,917 Lux) is
recommended until cuttings start to root.
Fertilizer: Use 100 ppm N (preferably
calcium-magnesium) can be applied once
rooting begins and increased to no more than
250 ppm once fully rooted as cuttings will
start to stretch.
Pinch: Growers often wait until once the
liners are transplanted until the plants are
pinched. However, a soft pinch of the terminal
tip is recommended if it starts to extend in the
propagation stage. (Read additional pinching
instructions under Growing On.)
Growth regulators: A 1500-2500 ppm
B-Nine spray will keep growth in check.
Pests: Thrips, Fungus Gnats and Aphids.
Diseases: Rhizoctonia and Powdery Mildew.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
E.C.: 3.5-5 mS via SME.
Transplant rooted liners to a 4 in. (10 cm.) or 6
in. (15 cm.) pot and grow on days at 68-74°F
(20-25°C) and nights around 65°F (18°C).
Keep plants moderately moist with a slight
drying between waterings.
Light: Dahlias prefer long days of light (14
hours) in the greenhouse to produce spring
flowering plants for May sales and decreases
the chances of tuber formation. 4000-9000
F.C. (43,056-96,875 Lux) are recommended.
Fertilizer: Use a 15-0-15 calcium
magnesium fertilizer level of 200-250 ppm at
every other watering. Keep plants moist but
not wet. This can be a Calcium Magnesium
combination alternated with ammonia nitrate.
Pinching: If pinched when rooting you may
not have to do any additional pinching.
However, another terminal tip removal to the
first or second node is recommended.
Growth Regulators: A 2000-2500 ppm
B-Nine spray or a combined B-Nine/Cycocel
tank mix at label rates.
Delosperma cultivars
Suntropics ®
Ice Plant, Trailing Ice Plant
Product Use: Pots, hanging baskets and
mixed containers.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Day Neutral.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 0.9-1.3 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in a
105 tray in 4-5 weeks. A rooting hormone is
not necessary.
Like most succulents, be careful of overmisting
during rooting. Moisten the medium
prior to sticking the cuttings and apply mist
every 30 minutes or less upon sticking for the
first day. Reduce or just overspray with a hose
mist nozzle so that cuttings are only hydrated
and kept at a moisture level of 2. Too much
mist will rot the plants. If the medium appears
moist mist/water only as the medium dries.
Use a bottom heat of 72-74°F (22-23°C) with
a similar air temperature. Reduce bottom
heat after plants roots to 68-70°F (20-21°C)
to both hold as well as tone the plants. Root
emergence from the callus is from 9-12 days
after sticking.
Light: 1,000-2,000 F.C. to root but increase
light levels to 3,000 – 3,500 F.C. to encourage
growth and reduce the chances for rotting.
Growth regulators: These are not needed
as pinching is more successful in shaping
the plants.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 0.6-0.9 mS via SME
Transplant rooted liners to 4 in. (10 cm.) pot
and grow on 5-7,000 F.C. of light and days
at 68-76°F (20-24°C) and nights 5-8 degrees
cooler. For fertilizer, use 150-175 ppm of
20-10-20.
Again, careful of overwatering and allow the
medium to dry down a little between waterings.
Pinch: If given a pinch prior to transplanting
than no additional pinch is necessary.
Growth regulators: None needed.
Pests: Aphids are the most common.
Diseases: Rhizoctonia and Pythium are
the most common but is usually due to
overwatering.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 4-5 week old
rooted 105 liner: 4-5 in. (10-12 cm.) pots
using 1 plant per pot takes 5-7 weeks to
finish upon transplanting.
Fertilizer: Use a foliar fertilizer rate of
75-100 ppm N of calcium magnesium once
roots develop.
Pinching: A soft pinch a week before
transplanting to the final container will help
to promote basal branching and make for a
more well rounded plant in the final container.
EC: 0.8-2.0 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in a
105 tray in 4-5 weeks. A rooting hormone
is recommended.
Upon sticking provide mist every 10-15
minutes on days 1 to 2. If the cuttings are
turgid, reduce on day 3 to every 20-25
minutes. After that misting can be every 30
minutes or so). Use a bottom heat of 70-74°F
(21-23°C) and a daytime air temperature of
75-78°F (24-26°C). Night air temperatures
should be 68-70°F (20-21°C). Cuttings are
under mist for 10-14 days, callusing in 5-7
days and rooting 7-14 days after sticking.
Light: Light levels of less of 1000-2000 F.C.
(10,764-21,528 Lux) and give 18 hours of
supplemental light during propagation.
Fertilizer: A light level of less than 100-150
ppm of a 15-0-15 can be used once rooted.
Pinch: One pinch is recommended once
plants are rooted.
Growth Regulators: Not necessary
during rooting.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 3.5-5 mS via SME
Use 1 cutting per 4 in. (10 cm.) 2 per 6 in.
(15 cm.) pot and 4-5 liners per 10-12 in.
(25-30 cm.) basket and grow on days at
65-73°F (18-23°C) and nights 68-70°F
(18-20°C). Careful of overheating plants in a
basket in the eaves of the greenhouse. As
for moisture, allow plants to dry down slightly
between waterings once plants are rooted in
the container.
Light: Grow on with levels of 4000-6000 F.C.
(43,100 – 64,583 Lux). Supplemental light is
not necessary.
Fertilizer: Use a medium fertilizer level of
150-200 ppm at every other watering until
well established and then increase to 300
ppm to finish.
Growth regulators: You can use negative DIF
but a 2-3000 ppm B-Nine spray is effective.
Dwarf varieties do not require a grown regulator.
Additional pinch(es) may be necessary for more
vigorous cultivars.
Pests: Thrips and Aphids.
Diseases: Botrytis and Pythium.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 4-5 week old
Product Use: Pots, garden and
mixed containers.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Long Day.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.5-6.2
EC: 2.0-3.5 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in a
105 tray in 5-6 weeks. A rooting hormone
is recommended.
Apply mist every 15-20 minutes upon
sticking for the first 1-2 days. Change that
to every 30 minutes by day 3 as maintaining
a level 3 moisture level on going. Use a
bottom heat of 72-78°F (22-26°C) with
an air temperature of 68-72°F (20-22°C).
Plants are usually ready to transplant 18-22
days after sticking the cuttings.
Light: 1,000-2,000 F.C. (10,764-21,528
Lux). However, start to increase light levels
as plants root as long days are needed to
avoid rosetting.
Fertilizer: Use 50-75 ppm N low
phosphorous fertilizer (15-0-15 or 15-5-
15) once rooted-around 14-16 days after
sticking the cuttings.
Pinch: Once rooted, pinch the plants before
transplanting to larger containers.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 2.0-3.5 mS via SME
Transplant rooted liners to 4.5-5 in. (12-
15 cm.) pots and grow under long days
(greater than 12 hours) to keep plants
rapidly growing and reduce crop time. Grow
on with days at 68-75°F (20-24°C) and
nights 5-8 degrees cooler.
Fertilizer: use 150-200 ppm of a 20-6-22.
15-0-15 can also be used – especially if the
plants are grown under short days.
Pinch: No additional pinches are necessary if
cuttings were pinched during propagation.
Growth regulators: B-Nine spray at 2500
ppm is recommended.
Pests: White Fly, Spider Mites and Aphids.
Diseases: Botrytis, Downy mildew
and Pythium.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 5-6 week old
rooted liner: 4.5-5 in. (10-12 cm.) pots using
1 plant per pot takes 12-14 weeks to finish
upon transplanting a rooted liner. 1 gallon
pots take 12-14 weeks from transplant using
2 or 3 plants per pot. However, plants will be
only starting to flower during mid-spring (May)
until daylength increases.
Growth Regulators: 1500 ppm B-Nine can
be used to keep growth in check.
Pests: Aphids, White Fly and Spider Mites.
Diseases: Botrytis and Powdery Mildew.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Day Neutral.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 0.8-2.0 mS via SME
Cuttings: A rooting hormone is not needed.
Upon sticking the cuttings provide only a
light mist. This is a critical point. The cuttings
can easily rot due to their pubescent (hairy)
foliage. For this reason, some growers
propagate on the greenhouse bench under
plastic and use a misting nozzle at the end
of a garden hose instead of a timed mist
after sticking. Allow media to dry moderately
between waterings.
Propagate at a bottom heat of 68-72°F (20-
22°C) and daytime air temperatures of 75-80°F
(24-27°C) Helichrysum callus’ quickly. Cuttings
are under mist for an average of 7-9 days.
Combined, all species have callus development
in 6-8 days.
Unrooted cuttings will root as noted in the
culture below.
Helichrysum angustifolium: Roots in a 105
tray in 4-5 weeks. One pinch can be done after
transplanting to the final container.
Helichrysum italicum: Roots in a 105 tray in
4-5 weeks. No pinch is needed.
Helichrysum petiolare: Roots in a 105 tray
in 3-4 weeks. 1-2 pinches can be done after
transplanting to the final containers.
Helichrysum stoechas: Roots in a 105 tray in
4-5 weeks. No pinch is needed.
Light: 500-1,000 F.C. (5,382-10,764 Lux) and
then 2,000-4,000 F.C. (21,528-43,056 Lux)
once rooted.
Fertilizer: Use a rate of 50-100 ppm N of
15-15-15 once rooted-around 7-9 days after
sticking the cuttings.
Pinch: Optional. A pinch of the growing tip of
the prostrate selections can benefit from a soft
pinch as it grows over the side of the liners.
Upright varieties do not require a pinch. See the
pinching notes under Growing On.
Growth Regulators: Not needed.
Pests: Fungus Gnats are the most common.
Diseases: Pythium, Rhizoctonia and
Powdery Mildew.
Impatiens hawkeri
Magnifico series
New Guinea Impatiens
Product Use: Pots, hanging baskets and
mixed containers.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Day Neutral.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 0.9-1.3 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in a
105 tray in 3-4 weeks. A rooting hormone is
not needed.
Apply mist every 10-15 minutes upon sticking
for the first 1-2 days. Change that to every
30 minutes by day 3 as long as cuttings
are turgid and no wilting is seen. Do not
overwater. Mist can continue to be reduced
every day or so as the cuttings start to callus
(6-7 days after sticking). Use a bottom heat
of 70-74°F (21-23°C) and nights 68-70°F (20-
21°C) air temperature at 70-75°F (21-24°C)
and keep developing liners moderately moist.
Light: 1,000-1200 F.C. (10,764-12,196 Lux).
Supplemental light is not necessary.
Fertilizer: Use a rate of 50-100 ppm of
20-10-20 once rooted-around 12-15 days
after sticking the cuttings and roots are
developing. Increase to 200 ppm when
roots become well developed.
Pinch: None is needed.
Growth Regulators: None is usually required
but a 1-2 ppm Bonzi spray once the plants
are rooted will control growth.
Pests: Spider mites and Fungus Gnats.
Diseases: Pythium, Rhizoctonia and
Powdery Mildew.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 0.8-2.0 mS via SME
Transplant rooted liners to 4 in. (10 cm.) pots
or 10 in. (25 cm.) baskets and grow at days
of 68-72°F (18-22°C) and nights at 68-70°F
(20-21°C). Once rooted the media should
be allowed to dry slightly between waterings.
Maintain moisture level at the moderate
level of 3.
Light: 4000-6000 F.C. (43,056-64,583 Lux).
No supplemental light is needed.
Fertilizer, use 50-100 ppm of a 15-0-15
alternated with 20-10-20. Increase to 150 ppm
once liners start to root in the final container.
Pinch: Not needed.
Growth regulators: Bonzi is effective as both
a spray (2-10 ppm) and a drench (0.25 ppm).
Pests: Thrips, Spider Mites and Aphids.
Diseases: Botrytis, Pythium and Necrotic
Spot Virus are the most common.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 3-4 week old
Lantana camara
Evita ®
Lantana
Product Use: Pots and mixed containers.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Day Neutral.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 1-2 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in a 105
tray in 4-6 weeks. Use a rooting hormone to
enhance rooting.
Lantana is a crop that does not require a lot
of mist to prevent the cuttings from wilting
which is why it is considered a low mist
requiring crop. But the media should be moist
(level 4) and mist with a high humidity for
the first 4-6 days until callusing begins. Too
much mist leads to foliar necrosis and rotting.
Propagate at a bottom heat of 70-74°F (21-
23°C) and night temperatures of 68-72°F
(20-22°C) and an air temperature of 75-78°F
(24-25°C). Cuttings are under mist from 7-10
days. Lantanas are slow to root.
28
www.benaryplus.com

A preventative fungicide is recommended.
Drop the humidity once rooting has begun and
reduce medium moisture to moist but not wet.
Light: 1,000-1,200 FC (10, 764 - 12,917
Lux) Once rooting has begun increase light
levels to 2,000-2500 (21,528-26,910 Lux).
Supplemental light is not necessary.
Fertilizer: Use a fertilizer rate of 100-150 ppm
N once rooting has begun–usually around 10-
12 days after sticking the cuttings and plants
have started to root. This can be increased to
200 ppm once plants are well rooted.
Pinching: as plants reach the latter part of
the propagation period and before transplant
benefit from giving a soft pinch of the terminal
growing tip. It makes for a more uniform plant.
However, if preferred, this can be delayed until
transplanted to the final container.
Growth Regulators: A 1500 ppm B-Nine
spray can used one time will keep plant growth
in check.
Fertilizer: Use 150-200 ppm of a 15-5-15
alternated with 20-10-20.
Pinch: A pinch is helpful to help shape
the plants.
Growth regulators: 2500 B-Nine spray or a
spray of combined 1500 B-Nine/1000 ppm
Cycocel can be used. Sumagic (10-15 ppm)
and Bonzi (15-25 ppm) work well. However, do
not use a growth regulator late in finishing or it
will delay flowering.
Pests: Aphids, White Fly and Leaf Miner.
Diseases: Pythium and Rhizoctonia are the
most common. Powdery Mildew can also be a
problem as well as Fusarium.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 4-6 week
old 105 liner: 4 in. (10 cm.) pots using 1
plant per pot takes 7-9 weeks to finish upon
transplanting. 6 in. (15 cm.) 2 plants per pot
require 9-11 weeks. Plants will be starting to
flower for May sales.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 1.5-2.5 mS via SME
Transplant rooted liners to 4-6 in. (10-15
cm.) pots and days at 72-75°F (22-23°C) and
nights 68-72°F (20-22°C). However, lantanas
are a warm climate plant–do not drop night
temperatures below 65°F (16°C) as this delays
flowering and plant growth. Once plants are
rooted keep plants moderately moist with a dry
down between waterings.
Light: Grow on 5-9,000 F.C. (53,820-96,875
Lux) of light. Due to lantanas love of heat and
light, supplemental light to 14 hours under
periods of cloudy late winter/early spring
weather will be helpful.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Day length neutral.
LINER PROPAGATION
pH: 6.0-6.4
EC: 0.9-1.3 mS via SME
Unrooted cuttings can be rooted in a 105 or
50 strip or liner tray and it will take 4 weeks
from a cutting to a rooted 105 liner while a 50
liner will take 5-6 weeks.
A rooting hormone is beneficial primarily
when rooting under low light but not needed
when sticking cuttings as the days become
longer. A powered based rooting hormone
is preferred but a 150-200 ppm IBA spray
used within the first day helps the plants to
root faster.
In addition, an adjuvant (such as CapSil) can
be used to rehydrate cuttings upon sticking at
the rate of 2-4 oz. per 100 gallons of water.
As for mist, the point is to keep the cuttings
from wilting. Pelargoniums prefer moist but
not wet environments. Start with a wellwatered
media. Upon sticking, mist to keep
cuttings turgid (every 30 minutes) on the
first day. Day 2 mist every 1-2 hours or less
if cuttings are turgid. Reduce mist between
days 3 and 4 and water liners allowing for
mild dry-downs between waterings. Use a
bottom heat of 70-72°F (21-22°C) and air
temperatures of 65-68°F (18-20°C). As a
reminder, due to the pubescent (hairy) foliage,
too much mist causes foliar diseases.
Plants begin to root 8-11 days after sticking.
Light: 1,000-2,000 F.C. (10,764-21,528 Lux)
and increased to 3,000-3,500 F.C. (32,292-
37,674 Lux). No supplemental light is required
for rooting.
Fertilizer: Use a calcium based fertilizer
between 100-150 ppm can be used after
rooting has begun (usually 1 week to 10 days
after sticking) and increased to 200 ppm N as
roots fully develop.
No pinch is not needed during rooting.
Growth Regulators: Not usually necessary
during rooting. However, some growers
have used a 1-2000 ppm B-Nine/750 ppm
Cycocel tank mix spray after rooting if plants
are starting to stretch.
Pests: Thrips, White Fly, and Spider Mites.
Diseases: Botrytis, Powdery Mildew
and Xanthomonas.
32
www.benaryplus.com

GROWING ON
Media: pH 6.0-6.4
EC: 2.0-2.5 mS via SME
Upon transplanting to the final container,
pinch off any developing flowers and grow
on at day temperatures of 70-75°F (21-24°C)
and nights at 62-65°F (17-18°C).
One additional point about temperature. A
negative DIF (a 5-10°F drop in temperature
in the morning before sunrise) will help to
maintain plant growth but will delay flowering.
However, grown this way for spring sales will
increase crop time although flower colors are
more intense on first bloom.
Light: Grow with light levels at 4500-6000
F.C. (43,056-64,583 Lux).
Fertilizer: You can use an amended soil to
include more lime to offset buffering and keep
pH levels around 6 and above. Low pH cases
foliar necrosis. As for fertilizer, use a calciummagnesium
based (15-5-15) for the duration
of growing at 200-250 ppm. However, some
growers use an ammonia based (20-10-20)
fertilizer during high light and warm conditions
to increase plant growth. However, since it
drops pH levels it is used only initially until days
become warm and daylength becomes longer.
Pinch: No pinch is necessary but as plants
develop it is recommended to pinch off the
first flowering buds/stems when there is still
4-6 left prior to spring sales.
Growth regulators: 750 Cycocel spray or a
2,500 B-Nine/1,000 Cycocel ppm tank mix
are effective. Bonzi is also effective at 3-5
ppm spray.
Pests: Aphids, Spider Mites and Thrips are
common greenhouse pests.
Diseases: Botrytis, Pythium and
Xanthomonas.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 4 week old
rooted liner: 4 in. (10 cm.) pots take 6-8
weeks to finish upon transplanting a 105
rooted liner. Hanging baskets will take 10-12
weeks using 3-4 plants per basket.
LINER PROPAGATION
pH: 6.0-6.4
EC: 1.0-1.5 mS via SME
Unrooted cuttings can be rooted in 4-5
weeks in a 105 tray. A rooting hormone
is recommended.
As for mist, remember that the frequency and
duration depends on environmental factors.
The cuttings should be misted every 10 to
20 minutes during the first 2 to 3 days. The
frequency of misting should decrease from day
3 to 7 to keep the media at Moisture level 3
and not saturated. Use bottom heat of 72-77°F
(22-25°C) and days between 65-68°F (18-20°C)
with an air temperature of 65-72°F (18-22°C) to
form callus. Once cuttings are rooted drop air
temperatures to between 58-60°F.
Light: Use light levels of 500-1000 F.C.
(5382-10,764 Lux). Once callus forms
increase light levels to 1000 to 1500 F.C.
(10,764-16,146 Lux) and start fertilizing.
Increase light levels to 3500-4000 F.C.
(37,674-43,056 Lux) once rooted and allow
the medium to dry down between irrigations.
Fertilizer: 100-200 ppm nitrogen using 20-
10-20 alternated with 14-0-14.
Pinch: A pinch is optional but can be
done 12-14 days after sticking and the
plants are rooted.
Growth Regulators: A 1500-2000 ppm
B-Nine spray used after rooting (2-3 weeks
after sticking) helps to tone the cuttings. But
if the plants are even-growing then a PGR is
not needed.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8 - 6.4
EC: 0.8-1.5 mS via SME
Transplant 1 liner per 4-6 in. (10-15 cm.)
pot and grow on initially at 68-72°F (18-
22°C) days and nights 60-67°F (16-19°C).
Once rooted in the final container begin a
cold (vernalization) treatment to encourage
flowering. Decrease the day temperatures to
between 50-54°F (10-12°C) for 4-6 weeks.
Once the cooling period is over, raise night
temperatures to between 65-68°F.
One final note about temperatures There
are a number of plant propagators that offer
precooled liners that reduces the total crop
time by as much as 4-5 weeks.
As for moisture levels: keep the plants
moderately moist with mild dry cycles
between waterings.
Fertilizer: During production use a 100-150
ppm N such as 15-5-15 alternated with
20-10-20.
Lighting: Maintain 1500 to 2000 F.C and
either extend the day or provide night
interruption as flower buds develop in early/
mid spring to give a 14-16 hour daylength.
As the flower buds develop keep night
temperatures in the upper 50’s and days
from 60-65°F (15-18°C). Avoid temperatures
above 70°F (21°C).
Pinching: Pinching is not usually necessary
but it does help make a fuller, more well
rounded plant. This is done either on a rooted
cutting or shortly after transplanting to the
final container. Only 1 pinch is needed. One
more point, a pinch adds 2-3 more weeks
production time.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 5-week-old
rooted liner, a quart will take 10-14 weeks to
finish, and a gallon will take 12-16 weeks.
until callus forms and then 2,000-3,000 F.C.
(21,528-32,292 Lux). Supplemental light is
usually not needed unless under low light.
Fertilizer: Use 20-10-20 fertilizer between
100-150 ppm can be used after rooting has
begun (usually 1 week to 10 days after sticking).
Pinch: No pinch is needed during rooting.
Growth Regulators: Not usually necessary
during rooting. However, some growers
have used a 1500 ppm B-Nine/750 ppm
Cycocel spray after rooting if plants are
starting to stretch.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.4-5.8
EC: 1.5-1.8 mS via SME
Transplant one liner to the final container grow
with and day temperatures of 70-75°F (21-
24°C) and nights 62-65°F (17-18°C). Remove
any developing flower buds.
One additional point about temperature. A
negative DIF (a 5-10°F drop in temperature
in the morning before sunrise) will help to
maintain plant growth but will delay flowering.
Keep plants moist but allow to dry slightly
between waterings once rooted.
Light: 4000 F.C. (43,056 Lux). Supplemental
lighting is not necessary.
Fertilizer: As for fertilizer, use a calciummagnesium
based (15-5-15) alternated with
20-10-20 for the duration of growing at 200-
250 ppm.
Growth regulators: A 750 ppm Cycocel
spray or 1500 ppm B-Nine/750 ppm Cycocel
tank mix are effective. 3-5 ppm Bonzi spray is
also effective.
Pests: Aphids and Thrips.
Diseases: Pythium and Xanthomonas.
In addition, edema (when lower leaf cells
burst and blister over) can be problem.
However, it is a physiological problem and
not a disease. To decrease the possibility, be
sure plants are well ventilated and are not
overwatered. This is especially true under high
substrate heat as the day ends.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a rooted 105
weeks for 4-6 in. (10-15 cm.) and up to 14
weeks (3-4 plants) for 10 in. (25 cm.) baskets
to flower. As for Gerainbow and Ville de Paris,
6 in. (15 cm.) pots and 10 baskets using 3-4
plants take 10-12 weeks.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a rooted 4-5
week 105 liner: 6 in. (15 cm.) pots take 11-13
weeks to finish upon transplanting a rooted
liner. Keep in mind that this is for a well rooted
plant with few, if any, blooms. This class of
geraniums is used for the scented foliage.
‘Mosquito Shocker ® ’ repels mosquitos and
seldom flowers until late season. The Grandeur ®
Odorata series will flower more readily but is
sold for the various foliage scents and not the
flowers. However, there is no absolute crop time
to flowering with this group. That being said,
plants have been known to flower when grown
in a container that is kept as a houseplant
where plants have flowered during autumn and
again in the spring.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Day Neutral.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: 0.9-1.2 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in a 105
tray in 3 ½ to 4 ½ weeks. A rooting hormone
is not necessary.
On mist, a 2-3 second mist is given every
15 to 20 minutes on day 1 to day 3 after
sticking the cuttings into a moistened liner or
plug tray. On day 3 start to reduce misting
to maintain a moderate moisture level in the
media but do not keep them wet. Continue to
reduce misting as roots callus but also do not
let the media dry down. Keep cuttings turgid.
Use a bottom heat temperature of 70-75°F
(21-24°C) and similar air temperatures.
Light: 1,000-1,500 F.C. (10,764-16,146 Lux)
until roots start to develop (usually 10-14 days
after sticking) then increase to 2000-2500 F.
C. (21,528-26,910 Lux) once fully rooted.
Fertilizer: 100 ppm N using a Calcium
Magnesium based fertilizer can be applied
once cuttings start to root and increased to
150-200 ppm once fully rooted.
Pinch: Pinching out the terminal tip helps to
improve branching after the cuttings root and
are ready to transplant.
Growth Regulators: Growth regulators are
not needed If the terminal tip of the cutting
has been removed. However, if not, then a
tank mix of 1500 ppm B-Nine/1000 ppm
Cycocel spray can be applied one time.
Allow one hour between spraying with a PGR
before restarting misting.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
temperatures at 72-74°F (16-20°C) and
68-70°F (20-21°C) nights. Remember that
Salvia farinacea has a longer crop time and
requires more warm growing conditions
than other crops to produce flowers for May
sales. For that reason, many varieties don’t
start to bloom until they start getting longer
days. That is why the plants are often smaller
flowered with less blooms in the spring but
have much more color in summer. Once
rooted, maintain moisture levels between 2
and 4 or medium to wet between waterings.
Light: 4,000-6000 F.C. (43,056-64,583 Lux).
While long days are not needed to bloom,
they do encourage the plant to grow and
bloom faster.
Fertilizer: Use a medium fertilizer level of
150-200 ppm of a 15-5-15 alternated with a
20-10-10.
Pinch: If a pinch is given in propagation then
no additional pinch is needed.
Pests: White Flies are the most common
insect pests.
Diseases: Botrytis and Pythium are the most
common. Careful watering practices until the
cuttings are well rooted in the final container
helps reduce this problem.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 3-4 week old
rooted 105 liner: 4-6 in. (10-15 cm.) pots
using 1 plant per pot takes 8-10 weeks
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.5-6
EC: 0.9-1.3 mS via SME
Cuttings: Unrooted cuttings will root in a
105 tray in 4-5 weeks. A rooting hormone
is recommended.
Apply mist every 15-20 minutes upon sticking
for the first 1-2 days. Change that to every
30 minutes by day 3 as long as cuttings are
turgid and no wilting is seen. Maintain high
humidity levels (80-90%). Mist can continue
to be reduced every day or so as the cuttings
start to callus (which is 6-7 days). Use a
bottom heat of 68-72°F (20-22°C) and a day
air temperature of 75-77°F (24-25°C) but
drop this down at nights to the upper 60’s°F.
Light: 1,000-2,000 F.C. (10,764-21,528 Lux).
and then 2,000-3,000 F.C. (21,528-32,292
Sunny Susy®
Black-Eyed Susan Vine
Product Use: Hanging baskets. Sunny Susy ®
is a strong, vigorously growing vining plant.
In addition to 10-12 in. (25-30 cm.) pots for
home use, plants grown in large landscape
urns (commercial container measuring 4 x
4 ft. or 6 x 6 ft. square) where there is no
support for it to grow, the plants will trail over
the side of the container and then start to
climb back up on their own existing stems.
FLOWERING
Flowering Type: Day Neutral.
LINER CULTURE (UNROOTED CUTTINGS)
Media: pH 5.5-5.8
EC: .6-.8
Unrooted Cuttings: Cuttings root in 4-5
weeks in a 105 tray. Stick unrooted cuttings
into a 105-128 liner tray (using 1 to 2 cuttings)
per cell. Use bottom heat of 68-72°F (20-
22°C). No rooting hormone is required.
Critical: Water management during misting
until roots develop. Cuttings easily rot when
kept too wet. As a guideline, stick unrooted
cuttings upon arrival to your location since
they dry down readily the longer they are off
the stock plant.
Apply misting at intervals for 4-7 days so that
the media is moist but not wet and the foliage
glistens and discontinue or reduce over-night
misting (especially during cloudy weather and
reduced sunlight).
Light: On the propagation bench, provide
1000-1500 F.C. (10,764-16,146 C) once
plants start to root. Increase to 2000 F.C.
(21,528 Lux) as the plants fully root.
Fertilizer: Once cuttings start to root, apply
a 50-100 ppm Calcium Magnesium fertilizer.
The fertilizer rate can be increased to 200
ppm once roots are rapidly developing.
42
www.benaryplus.com
Pinch: One pinch is suggested about 7-10
days before transplanting to the final container.
Growth Regulators: Growth regulators are
not needed.
Pests: Aphids can sometimes be an issue.
Diseases: Botrytis.
GROWING ON
Media: pH 5.8-6.2
EC: .6-.9
Transplant 105 rooted liners to 10-12 in. (25-
30 cm.) hanging baskets placing 4-5 rooted
cuttings per pot. Place the liners next the
hangers of the baskets to allow to vine. daytime
temperatures at 68-72°F, (16-20°C) and nights
4-6 degrees cooler. You can start the baskets
on the bench for several days to a week to watch
watering and the plants begin to root and grow.
Maintain moisture levels at 3 (moderately moist).
Move baskets to the eve of the greenhouse to
allow them to start rapidly growing.
One additional point, thunbergias, as they
develop, will also hang down from the over
the side of the basket. You can leave these as
is since once the grow down 6-10 in.(15-25
cm.) they start to vine back up the existing
stems–making a fuller plant.
Light: Grow on at light levels of 4,000-6000
F.C. (43,056-64,583 Lux). Thunbergias prefer
high light levels.
Fertilizer: Use a medium fertilizer level of
150-200 ppm of a 15-5-15 alternated with a
20-10-10. You can apply chelated lime if foliar
chlorosis is noted.
POST HARVEST
Finished Crop Time: From a 4-5 week old
rooted 105 cutting: A 10-12 in. (25-30 cm.)
