the Cluster Photonics was built. It

provides companies and research

institutions access to resources,

such as knowledge and capital, at

both local and international level in

The Photonics Cluster in Berlin

and Brandenburg is especially

distinguished by the strong scientific

basis (10 universities and 26 extrauniversity

research institutions)

and the high amount of specialized

small and medium-sized companies

(overall 400 SMEs) with widely

ranged know-how – a perfect

basis for a mutual transfer between

science and industry leading to

national and international cooperation.

MASSTART Project - Fraunhofer IZM

H2020 MASSTART project intends

to establish a new assembly and

test paradigm for next generation

800G and 1.6T transceivers,

including On-Board configuration,

using robust, low-cost, and highthroughput

packaging and test

techniques.

MASSTART aims to provide a

holistic transformation to the

assembly and characterization of

high-speed photonic transceivers

towards bringing the cost down to

€1/Gb/s or even lower in mass

production.
