Editors’ Note
Cheri and Vance Leavy
Wow, what a difference a year makes.
Last year, we were encouraging hope in
the face of adversity. Now, our University’s
football team is the reigning National
Champions. Yes, Kirby Smart’s quote on
our first page is in reference to his football
team. However, we view it as inspiration
for Athens as a whole. Like our gridiron
Bulldogs, America’s greatest college town
and our University must continue its path
to excellence.
This 13th volume of Guide 2 Athens
displays the finest independently owned
businesses in the Classic City and our
G2A team deeply appreciates their
participation. With this Bulldog red book,
we make good on a promise to celebrate a
championship for our team and this terrific
town … Enjoy!
Hilltop Grille
Hilltop Grille is the life-long dream of
Athens resident Chris Lloyd. He and his
business partner, Rick Pennell, opened
“Hilltop” in November 2002. “I wanted
to open a restaurant that Athens could
call its’ own,” says Lloyd. “When you
want to show people from out of town
what Athens is all about, you don’t want
to take them to the same franchise
restaurant they have back home. When
I went to UGA back in the 70s, everyone
went to Poss’s out on the Atlanta
Highway. I want to fill that void.”
Discover what the locals know, it’s the
best steak and seafood in Athens and
you don’t have to fight the downtown
crowd. Reservations and large groups
