Con esta edición de otoño, nos complace 

anunciar una vez más los Premios de Spa 

2022 Spa & Wellness MexiCaribe. Hemos 

seleccionado spas que realmente se 

destacan del resto por una característica, 

servicio o experiencia única que brindan 

a sus huéspedes. ¡Felicitaciones a todos 

los bien merecidos ganadores! Mira estas 

increíbles propiedades de spa y bienestar en 

la página 6. 

Esta temporada fui invitada a regresar a 

Los Cabos, visitando el resort Hilton Los 

Cabos. Si bien este resort aún tiene el spa 

original, construido hace muchos años, han 

encontrado muchas formas innovadoras de 

ofrecer experiencias de spa y bienestar en 

todo el resort, incluyendo algunos de mis 

favoritos: breathwork y baños de hielo, y 

sanación de sonido con un gong. ¡Estaba en 

el paraíso del bienestar! 

Los artículos de esta edición incluyen 

bienestar en casa: aprende a crear tu propio 

espacio zen; cromoterapia: el uso del color 

como terapia para mejorar tu estado de ánimo 

y cambiar tu energía; e hiperpigmentación, 

siempre un tema interesante que nuestros 

huéspedes del spa quieren saber cómo tratar.

With this autumn issue, we are thrilled to 

once again announce the Spa & Wellness 

MexiCaribe 2022 Spa Awards. We have 

selected spas that really stand out from 

the rest with a unique feature, service or 

experience they provide for their guests. 

Congratulations to all the well deserving 

winners! See these incredible spa and 

wellness properties on page 6. 

This season I was invited to return to 

Los Cabos, visiting the Hilton Los Cabos 

resort. While this resort still has the 

original spa, built many years ago, they 

have found many innovative ways to offer 

spa and wellness experiences around the 

resort, including some of my favorites - 

breathwork and ice baths, and sound 

healing with a gong. I was in wellness 

heaven! 

Features in this issue include wellness 

at home: learn how to create your very 

own zen space; chromotherapy - the 

use of color as therapy to uplift your 

mood and change your energy; and 

hyperpigmentation, always a hot topic 

our spa guests want to know how to treat.

Your home is the place you spend most of your time, it's important 

you feel comfortable and happy in your space, here are some 

suggestions to incorporate wellness at home: 

KEEP IT TIDY: Chaotic spaces are detached from the mental 

state of those who live in it. Throw away everything you don't

Escondido en un estrecho tramo de playa frente al mar en Playacar, 

en las afueras de Playa del Carmen, México, the Reef Playacar 

fusiona la fresca jungla con la soleada playa. Una vez serpenteando 

a través de la propiedad, los árboles altos y el espeso follaje que se eleva 

sobre lo alto brindan sombra y frescura, creando la sensación de estar 

instalado en la jungla, incluso en pleno verano. 

ŌME Spa se encuentra en el centro del resort; ingresa mediante una sala 

de estar que rodea una escultura de hormigón con símbolo del logotipo. 

Nombrado en honor a Ometeotl, un dios mitológico de la creación que 

aporta unidad y dualidad, el spa se basa en la herencia azteca y la

The Reef Playacar

Tucked into a narrow stretch of ocean front beach in the 

Playacar, on the outskirts of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, 

the Reef Playacar merges the cool jungle with the sunny 

beach. Once meandering through the property, the tall trees and 

thick foliage towering overhead provide shade and cool, creating 

the feeling of being ensconced in the jungle, even in the height of 

summer. 

ŌME Spa sits at the center of the resort; enter through a seating 

area that surrounds a concrete sculpture of the logo symbol. Named 

after Ometeotl, a mythological god of creation bringing both unity 

and duality, the spa draws upon Aztec heritage and the search for 

balance between the material body and the immaterial, or soul and 

spirit. 

An impressive Aztec inspired mural adorns the wall of the 

welcoming area of ŌME Spa and the modern design, drawing on 

natural elements of wood and stone, continues throughout. A glass 

windowed sauna provides a view of the lush foliage outside, before 

a bucket shower instantly refreshes with cool water. Proceed to the 

steam room to enjoy the mystical starlit ceiling before adjourning 

to the relaxation area prior to commencing spa services. Trees

were left intact during the construction and now form part of the 

decor, with an opening for each to emerge out of the ceiling into 

the sunlight. 

The couples suite at ŌME Spa features a jacuzzi bath to relax in 

and connect with your partner while enjoying any couples ritual. 

Stimulate circulation and nourish your skin with the aromatic aztecinspired 

Xocolatl experience, a cacao ritual including exfoliation, 

body wrap, facial and scalp massage, culminating in a chocolate 

body lotion application. 

Wellness experiences can also be found around the grounds of 

the hotel with sunrise and sunset yoga classes, the Temazcal, a 

traditional Mayan sweat lodge experience and three separate areas 

of the Selvatika outdoor gym, providing al fresco workout spaces 

for guests to enjoy.

¿Cómo nació el concepto de IntraSpa y cómo lo integraste a Vitalí Spa? 

El concepto de IntraSpa surge de 12 años de experiencia como spa, 

que nos permitieron entender lo que los huéspedes buscan. Antes 

de convertirnos en IntraSpa, solamente mirábamos al ser humano 

parcialmente, viendo solo síntomas (estrés, depresión, tristeza, ansiedad, 

enojo, melancolía y otras) sin intervenir en los factores que los causan. 

La ansiedad, burnout, estrés y malos hábitos están incrementando, y la 

pandemia de Covid-19 ha ocasionado que las personas busquen cómo 

mejorar su salud mental, emocional y física. Respondimos creando 

IntraSpa, que nos permite ver al ser humano de una forma más integral, 

y al spa como un espacio que ayuda a cambiar hábitos y ayudar a las 

personas alcanzar el bienestar. 

¿Cómo están conformadas las experiencias y rituales en Vitalí Spa? 

Los rituales proveen importancia a la transformación de cada huésped 

y hacen sagrado su proceso de sanación. Todas las experiencias 

combinan actividades que explotan los sentidos de cada huésped, 

como yoga, meditación, respiración consciente, alimentación saludable, 

aromaterapia, sanación con sonido, masajes y más. 

¿Qué experiencia recomiendas a alguien que visita Vitalí Spa por 

primera vez? 

El ritual típico de Vitalí Spa, que inicia con la llegada del huésped y siendo 

recibido por su terapeuta, y es acompañado al circuito inicial, donde se 

coloca al huésped en una postura de yoga para mejorar la respiración y 

tomar conciencia de su cuerpo. Esto es seguido de un shot saludable 

en nuestro bar detox, con ingredientes para estimular los sentidos y el 

sistema inmunológico. 

Después, el huésped ingresa a la zona de relajación iluminada 

tenuemente, para comenzar a viajar al interior usando técnicas que 

proveen una sensación de contención. Su terapeuta le ayuda a 

comprender y gestionar sus emociones. Esto es seguido de un masaje 

y meditación en el laberinto, incluyendo sonoterapia. La experiencia 

termina en el check-out, donde los huéspedes tienen la posibilidad de 

crear un diario personal, basados en algunas preguntas de guía. 

¿Nos puedes contar más sobre los espacios que hay en Vitalí Spa? 

Además del bar detox, tenemos el área flow, la wellness boutique y el 

spa. En el área flow hay una serie de soportes de yoga para conectar 

contigo. Ahí mismo está el área de relajación con una variedad de 

cuencos e instrumentos para terapia sonora. 

En la wellness boutique se ofrecen elementos y consejos de ejercicios 

(de yoga, respiración, sonoterapia y aromaterapia) para continuar con la 

práctica en su hogar. En el área de spa están las cabinas de masajes, un 

sauna, sala de vapor y el bar de oxígeno.

How was the concept of IntraSpa born and how did you integrate it into 

Vitalí Spa? 

The IntraSpa concept arose from 12 years of experience as a spa, which 

allowed us to understand what guests are looking for. Before becoming an 

IntraSpa, we only looked at human beings partially, seeing just symptoms 

(stress, depression, sadness, anxiety, anger, melancholy and others) without 

intervening in the factors that cause them. 

Anxiety, burnout, stress, and bad habits are on the rise, and the Covid-19 

pandemic has caused people to seek ways to improve their mental, emotional, 

and physical health. We responded by creating IntraSpa, which allows us to 

see the human being in a more comprehensive way, and the spa as a space 

that helps to change habits and help people achieve wellness. 

How are the experiences and rituals at Vitalí Spa shaped? 

The rituals provide importance to the transformation of each guest and make 

their healing process sacred. All experiences combine activities that exploit 

the senses of each guest, such as yoga, meditation, conscious breathing, 

healthy eating, aromatherapy, sound healing, massages and more. 

What experience do you recommend to someone visiting Vitalí Spa for the 

first time? 

The typical ritual of Vitalí Spa, which begins with the guest’s arrival and being 

received by their therapist, and is accompanied to the initial circuit, where the 

guest is placed in a yoga posture to improve breathing and become aware of 

their body. This is followed by a healthy shot at our detox bar, with ingredients 

to stimulate the senses and the immune system. 

Afterwards, the guest enters the dimly lit relaxation area, to begin traveling 

internally using techniques that provide a sense of containment. Their 

therapist helps them to understand and manage their emotions. This is 

followed by a massage and meditation in the labyrinth, including sound 

therapy. The experience ends at check-out, where guests have the ability to 

create a personal journal, based on a few guiding questions. 

Can you tell us more about the spaces in Vitalí Spa? 

In addition to the detox bar, we have the flow area, the wellness boutique 

and the spa. In the flow area there is a series of yoga supports to connect

3. Hotel spa guests booking at the last minute in your slowest 

season may be value oriented, empower your booking and 

reception teams with the tools and rules to be price flexible. 

This could include a special ‘hidden’ menu. This tactic can work 

exceptionally well if your spa has fixed costs to cover, including 

payroll. 

Lastly, get help. Spa Management Software companies, some 

are adding dynamic pricing tools and often, hotels have entire 

revenue management departments, so you do not have to 

reinvent the wheel to get started!

reviews or comments online that could profoundly affect the 

prestige of their properties.

The newly launched products include Retinol Vit A, with microencapsulated retinol to renew 

the skin. Therapy & Essence Laboratorios is the first Mexican brand to include this active 

ingredient in its products. The brand also introduced the Revital D to aid the skin's vitamin 

D synthesis and provide luminosity and firmness; and the red berries body wrap, rich in 

antioxidants. In addition, the brand presented reformulations of their star products, such as 

Hydrashot which now includes Wild Rosella to increase the hydration retention of the skin. 

Lourdes Flores, manager of Therapy & Essence Laboratorios received the certification in 

wellness products granted by the World Association of Medical & Wellness Tourism, this 

certifies Therapy & Essence Laboratorios by international standards. 

The brand held raffles for all attendees and recognized the top five vendors of the year: 

Acapulco, Mixcoac, Mazatlán, Guadalajara and Aragón.
