Department of Public Works for information<br />

on where to safely dispose of these items.<br />

The 5th annual <strong>Wrentham</strong><br />

Knights of Columbus<br />

5K will be held Sunday,<br />

November 13 at 9 a.m. The<br />

5K Run/Walk will start and<br />

end at Parker’s Pub, 303<br />

Shears Street in <strong>Wrentham</strong>.<br />

The USATF-certified<br />

flat course will loop around<br />

scenic country roads. Cash<br />

prizes will be awarded to the<br />

top three male and female<br />

finishers, and other valuable<br />

prizes will be awarded<br />

for the top finishers in each<br />

age group. There will be a<br />

DJ, sponsor tents, and fun<br />

for the entire family.<br />

The council has<br />

raised over $15,000 to date<br />

from the annual 5K race, all<br />

of which has been donated<br />

back to the community for<br />

several charitable causes.<br />

FAFC Backpack Drive<br />

The <strong>Wrentham</strong>-based<br />

Friends of Adoption and Foster<br />

Care (FAFC) are collecting items<br />

to fill backpacks for foster children.<br />

School supplies, new stuffed<br />

animals, new PJs (sizes 6 to<br />

14/16 boy/girl) and personal<br />

care items for foster children are<br />

needed. FAFC is in special need<br />

of crayons, markers, coloring<br />

books, spiral notebooks, composition<br />

notebooks, sticky notes,<br />

rulers, binders, shower gel, and<br />

shampoo/conditioner.<br />

MA Department of Children<br />

& Families (DCF) social workers<br />

keep these backpacks on hand so<br />

when a child is placed into foster<br />

care, the child will get a new<br />

backpack. Backpacks are a great<br />

comfort to children who have left<br />

home with nothing.<br />

This is an ongoing collection.<br />

Donated items can be dropped<br />

off in the bins inside St. Martha’s<br />

Church in Plainville, inside St.<br />

Mary’s Church in <strong>Wrentham</strong>,<br />

or in the bin in the parking lot of<br />

St. Mary’s.<br />

<strong>Norfolk</strong> Receives<br />

$15,335 Grant to<br />

Purchase Equipment<br />

In August, the Baker-Polito<br />

Administration announced its<br />

annual Shared Streets & Spaces<br />

Program awards, totaling $16.4<br />

million.<br />

Seven Regional Transit Authorities<br />

and 138 municipalities<br />

received funds to provide “technical<br />

assistance and project funding<br />

to help Massachusetts cities<br />

and towns design and implement<br />

changes to curbs, streets,<br />

and parking areas in support of<br />

public health, safe mobility, and<br />

community growth and revitalization,”<br />

according to www.mass.<br />

gov.<br />

Several cities and towns also<br />

received grants for the purchase<br />

of equipment, including the<br />

town of <strong>Norfolk</strong> which received<br />

a grant of $15,335.19 “for snow<br />

removal equipment for pedestrian<br />

and bicycle facilities.”<br />

Friends Craft Fair on<br />

Nov. 5<br />

The Franklin Newcomers & Friends Club will host its 47th<br />

annual craft Fair on Saturday, November 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.<br />

at Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School, 147<br />

Pond St., Franklin.<br />

This popular and well-established event features hand-crafted<br />

items from 70 different artists throughout New England. Shop<br />

for art/photography, holiday and home décor, adult and children<br />

clothing/accessories, jewelry, pet accessories and more.<br />
