….... a word from our President
By the time you read this the Nominations Committee will have contacted everyone that was
nominated for a Board position. I hope we have a full slate of candidates for each board position that
the members can vote for. I know of at least one member who openly expressed a willingness to be
nominated for a board position. That is fantastic. Hopefully more will step forward in the future. If you
have been nominated, please consider running. New Board members with fresh ideas help move CVC
forward.
I have completed the final planning for my Gold Country run. I updated our itinerary with more rest
stops and changed some restaurants. Everything has come together nicely and we will be having fun
each day, including the final morning before heading home. Special thanks go out to Charlie and Kim
for helping me with the pre-run this past spring. For those going on the run, please watch your e-mails
for any last-minute news before we head out.
I have a lot on my calendar so that's all from me at this time. See you on my run or at our October
meeting.
Your President,
Jeff

SEPTEMBER SUNSHINE & CLOUDS
Need of continued prayer for:
Dick Danielson is out of the hospital but still battling with his CLL. Jeff talked
to Dick and he is extremely winded with just a few steps and doctors are
talking about removing his spleen now because his red blood cell count is still
not in the normal range. His daughter Claire is arranging for home care
providers to come in to help and we will continue to keep you posted but it
looks like he may not be returning until after the first of the year.
My dear sweet mother-in-law Donna passed away on Wednesday 9/21/22.
She has gone to be with good Lord and was reunited with her husband of 70
years. We will miss her immensely.
Vicki Garrison was in the hospital was in the hospital for on-going issues with
cancer and was going to be sent to a rehab center to recover more before
coming back home. She developed an infection and stayed a few days longer
but was admitted to the rehab center on one of the hottest days in August
and the power went out and only generator was used for emergency lighting
but no A/C. After this rocky start she has starting PT and doing a bit better
but will be returning to the hospital for another surgery. No date set yet.
Their son Josh had kidney stones and in much pain but after some ultrasonic
breakup he passed all but one big one and may need surgery to remove it.
Surgery Update(s)
Charlotte Renna is almost fully recovered from her hip surgery and continues
to keep up with her PT exercises and continues to get stronger. She is now
out and about and doing things again. It’s great to see her again at our
Mexican Train games.
I spoke to Tom Jarvis this morning and apparently Marci had moved wrong in
bed on Saturday and was in extreme pain. Tom called an ambulance and the
paramedics had to put her on a backboard and take her to the hospital

where they found her hip joint had moved out of place. They had to sedate
her and pop it back in place so this has set her back a bit.
Returning from Trip(s)
Jeanie, Mike, Larry & Janet King and Lori Duke recently returned from a
Princess Alaskan cruise and had a great time. Unfortunately there was a
mishap and Steve & Lydia ended up not joining them on the cruise. Steve
said he did something very special and fly all the wall to Seattle for a
romantic dinner with his lovely wife. More to come with that story … or
maybe not!
Araceli and Jasmine returned from Maui and also had a great time.
Charlie and Kim just returned from Hawaii as well and then immediately
went on another week long trip to Northern California with her dad.
Job Change
Jimmy Webb requested a position change within PG&E and his bid was
accepted. He is now on the technical team and again back with the Union. I
guess we won’t see Jimmy much anymore because he now will be working a
ton of OT. Be careful what you wish for Jimmy!
Happy News
Emily Piercy said Tom finally got the frame for his 57 Chevrolet that
apparently he’s been working on since she’s met him. They also went to the
Santa Maria Ford car show on Sept. 10 th and his friend Randy placed 2nd in
his division for his ‘31 pickup. It rained and was hot and muggy but enjoyed
their time away.
Vacation Time:
The Henenfent’s and the Lebda’s are heading out for a cruise on the Great
Lakes and the end of the month and looking forward to a great time.

Mitch & Margaret are heading to Portugal for a few days and then off on a 7-
day River cruise. They are ending their trip with another 3 days in Spain.
Gosh, that sounds like a super great time. I can’t wait to hear all about it
when they get back
Good or not so good) and you would like to share with us, please send an e-
mail to me at juliebomb@yahoo.com or call me at 559-779-1718
Top 3 Rarest Corvettes Ever Made
America’s iconic Corvette sports car is one of the most desirable, and collected vehicles of all time.
Nothing in the world can compete with its performance achievements, longevity, and panaché. Being
so collectible, there are lots of different years, engines, and options that make one more
desirable than the next. But in the rarified world of “rarest ever made,” these are the top three rarest,
most expensive, and famous of all of the over one million ever produced.
1963 Grand Sport Corvette
The Corvette’s father, Zora Arkus Duntov, oversaw the construction of the 1963 Grand Sport to
compete on the international stage with the likes of Ferrari and Ford’s Cobra. Five were made before
GM management shut it down. At this time, automakers were supposed to honor the AMA ban of
sanctioned racing efforts by the big three manufacturers. But GM took many ideas from the GS it
later incorporated into other race programs and performance vehicles alike. Amazingly, all five of
the GS sports cars survive today. The few times they have come up for auction they bid millions of
dollars, indicating how valuable and important they are.
1969 ZL1 Corvette

Is there anything rarer than the Grand Sport? Yes. The production of its 1969 ZL1
amounted to only two examples. They were built for the SCCA Canadian-American
Challenge Cup Series. To slide under the corporate radar, the aluminum 427 ci engines
were advertised at 430 hp. But in reality, it was more like 560 hp to 585 hp. As a $3,010
option, it tipped the price of the ZL1 Corvette to $10,771. The alloy engine came in at 100
lbs less than the iron 427. That proved to be an incredible advantage combined with the
560+ hp. Quarter-mile times were 11.2 seconds, on crappy nylon ply tires. Hagerty puts
a ZL1’s value at over $1 million today. With the recent prices seen at auctions lately, we
think that number is very low.
1983 Corvette
Many collectors take a pass on the fourth-gen Corvettes, and 1983 models are C4 models. We should
say “model,” because there was only one ever built. And you can see it at the National Corvette
Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It really wasn’t a production model at all, but actually a pilot
model. But that’s close enough for our purposes here. California changed its emissions requirements
right before C4 production was to start. And there was no time to incorporate the changes. So
Chevrolet took a pass on building 1983 models entirely. The first production C4s were 1984 models.
This Corvette was used as a development model for assembly at the then-new Bowling Green
Corvette Assembly Plant. Because it was the first Corvette “produced” at the plant, it remained in its
front lobby for over a decade. GM then donated it to the new Museum upon its opening in 1994. So
when it comes to rare production Corvettes, while this looks like a plain vanilla C4, it may be the
ultimate one.
The Spanish term La Veta Madre (The Mother Load) refers to
a rich vein of gold that included the region from Mariposa to
Downieville. In 1848 James Marshall discovered gold along
the American River, and the race for riches was on. We will
be spending three nights along State Route 49, the main
route linking gold country towns and visit landmarks,
museums, and other desKnaKons.
Many of the original mining towns
described by historians have vanished
and landmarks become fewer each
year as Kme, fires, and progress take
their toll. Plan to see it before it's gone
