Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which causes wide-spread musculoskeletal pain and causes her jaw to dislocate frequently. Korako described it as “having a bad toothache everyday.” Veal’s condition was continually deteriorating, Korako said. She needed a total temporomandibular joint reconstruction and bilateral jaw joint replacements. The most expensive part of the surgery was the titanium jaw and joint replacements, which are manufactured in the United States. Said Korako: “The crazy thing is you can get this thing done in Auckland on public health, but you can’t get it done in Christchurch.” Korako cycled more than 580km from Rāpaki to Picton in October as part of the ‘Ride for Renee’ campaign, the second ride of its kind. The hardest part was riding his e-bike through the two days of snow. “I seem to attract weather bombs every time I do this thing. It was during the week when we had all of that snow and sleet and hail so we got through all of that.” The easiest part was when he rode into Picton and was greeted by family and locals. “My whanau was there at the beginning and at the end.” SUCCESS: Korako and Renee Veal. $90,000 has been raised for her surgery, which is not covered by public health funding in Christchurch. Sports clubs add voice to Naval Point
A NEWLY-FORMED group and
board will add its voice to the
redevelopment of Naval Point in
Lyttelton.
The board, made up of eight
members (two are representatives of
Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke), represents
Whakaraupo Recreation Inc.
WRI has been set up to support its
clubs and members with sea-based
aquatic and community-based sport,
recreation, safety and education at
Naval Point.
“Naval Point has long been a
popular recreation and sport location
in Ōtautahi and there’s a unique
opportunity for sports clubs to run
efficiently together,’’ said board member
Ben Keys.
“Currently, WRI has members
across 18 different sports clubs . . .
We believe, with the redevelopment
of Naval Point, there’s a unique
opportunity for sports clubs – water
and land-based – to run efficiently
together and create a truly unique
sports facility.”
The city council is welcoming the
treasures from the past
newly formed group.
Said city council head of parks
Andrew Rutledge: “It’s really encouraging
to see people wanting to be part
of the Naval Point redevelopment.
“This comes at an important point
in the redevelopment, with the proposal
of a multi-use facility concept
to anchor the area. We’re partnering
with Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke and
we’re very keen to hear from all
groups who want to collaborate with
us on this exciting redevelopment,”
he said.
SUCCESSFULLY managing
and capitalising on the Sail GP
event being hosted on Lyttelton
Harbour in March will be
one of the biggest challenges
for the area, new Te Pātaka o
Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula
Community Board chair Reuben
Davidson said.
“It is a worldclass
event and
the eyes of the
world will be on
us. We need to
ensure it leaves
a positive legacy
but also that
locals can capitalise
on it.”
He is not sure
exactly what the economic benefit
to Lyttelton will be from the
event because the focus is on the
Christchurch region, but he says
the benefits will be significant.
“There will be benefits from
the visitors to Lyttelton but also
the events will be streamed and
broadcast to a global audience,
so the benefits to Lyttelton from
that will be enormous”.
An estimated 5000 people will
be visiting the port on each of
the two event days, and that will
present some big issues for local
residents and businesses.
The traffic management
plan will see access to the port
seriously restricted during the
afternoons. The biggest benefits
he says will be in encouraging
people to stay after the sailing is
over for the day.
This will be a challenge, Davidson
said.
Vehicle access via the Sumner
Rd and from Governors Bay will
be closed except for Lyttelton
residents with a permit, with
the majority of visitors being
transported by bus in and out via
the tunnel from Christchurch.
“I think the real challenge for
us, with an event of this scale, is
trying to get the balance right
between efficiently moving
Latest Canterbury news at starnews.co.nz
people to and from the event, but
also getting people to stay in port
and spend their money locally,”
Davidson said.
“The challenge is keeping
people in the town into the
evening after the events are over,”
he said.
“One of the risks is that people
who come in by bus are likely
to take the bus back rather than
staying afterwards.”
Davidson says this presents an
opportunity for local businesses
to organise events to keep people
in the town, like concerts or
dinners or events.
“We have plenty of great venues
and, once the sailing is over
for the day, there will be other
options for getting back into
town including taxis or public
transport,” he said.
He suggests local businesses
put on their own transport to get
their customers home.
“Part of the ticket price for the
event might be the cost of getting
people back to Christchurch
afterwards” he said.
“It would mean that people
could have an awesome day and
night without worrying about
how they are going to get home
Davidson
LEGACY: Lyttelton Harbour will host March’s Sail GP regatta.
Davidson is also predicting
large numbers of residents will
capitalise on Sail GP by leaving
and offering their home as B&Bs
for the duration. This is already
happening, he said.
Most of the visitors will be
staying in Christchurch so “anyone
who wants to put their place
do very well across the period of
the event”.
Vintage market continues to thrive
• By Natalie Pham
HELEN MILBURN has been
a well-known antique dealer in
Christchurch for many decades.
Now, her vintage market with
multiple stalls has become a beacon
to people who are looking
for the unexpected.
The 81-year-old never imagined
Shabby Chic Market Day
would turn into a monthly event
when she first started it at her
home in Woolston.
There were only seven stallholders
at the first event, but
later increased to 12 on the next
market day.
“After the earthquakes, because
there wasn’t much on, [the
event] just grew,” she said.
Ever since the market began,
she has only cancelled once due
to bad weather.
While some stallholders have
left for other events, many have
remained.
“Some of them who were here
from the second market still stay
with us all the time. All these
years. It’s amazing,” Helen said.
About 100 visitors were queuing
up at Rochester Villa to explore
vintage treats and treasures
from more than 40 stallholders
last Sunday.
Some of them used to be
Helen’s regular customers at her
former antique shop Forget Me
Not.
“I still remember their faces
and names,” Helen said.
She opened the store in Linwood
Ave in 1986, offering a
range of cottage-like products.
While the store was a success
at the time, Helen did not make a
lot of profit.
“A lot of young people didn’t
have much money to buy things.
So I just bought things and
wouldn’t look for the highest
dollar.”
Over the years, the store
moved on to Victoria St, Oxford
Tce, Manchester St and then
ended up in Woolston. This was
when Helen decided to close it.
“Within a year finishing the
shop, the market started,” she
said.
Helen and her late husband
Peter bought the villa, which was
built in 1874, from the Graham
family at an auction in 1992.
It then became a home of
many tenants for years, with one
rented the villa for about seven
years.
When the last tenant moved
out, Helen decided to use the
space to continue her long-term
career in curating antiques.
But she then went with the
idea of having a market day,
which was suggested by a “lovely
lady”.
“It was so successful, we had
another one,” Helen said.
The second event was where
she met baker Shane Tatom of
the Nikau Bakehouse, who told
her to hold the market on the
first Sunday of the month from
September to May.
Said Helen: “In the early days,
especially after the quakes, I
went around Sumner, Redcliffs,
Linwood to put posters on shop
windows. And people were so
keen to help.”
Her one-man band has now
expanded to a small group of
people, including her eldest
daughter Sarah Milburn and a
committee of six people.
Nowadays, Sarah has taken
over the market. Her main
tasks include organising the
stalls, managing the events, and
posting photos of the market on
Facebook.
Helen is hoping to continue
improving the market and keep
it going.
“I’m pretty good for my age. So
I suppose we’ll just keep going
maybe until I die. Maybe it’ll
carry on, I don’t know. We’re just
keeping the cottage alive.”
‘Pinkies’ class of ‘57 celebrates 65
• By Tina Grumball
SIXTY-FIVE years ago, these 12
women entered nursing training
at Christchurch Public Hospital
in bright pink uniforms.
They were nicknamed
“pinkies” and were only trusted
to take patients to chapel on
Sundays.
Last week, they entered The
George Hotel to celebrate their
lifelong friendship, making jokes
and cheering their water glasses
with promises of cocktails to
come.
Most of the 47 girls who
entered the hospital on January
2, 1957, have kept in touch
throughout the years and met up
a couple of times.
“This one is low-key because
we’re all getting older, all into our
80s,” one of the “pinkies,” Lois
Eagle, said.
Some could not make it to
the reunion as they weren’t well
enough to travel or lived in the
North Island.
For those in Christchurch,
Lois said they met up every two
months if they could and had
remained good friends.
When speaking with Bay
Harbour News, Lois recalled her
decision to go into nursing after
she left Christchurch Girls’ High
School at 16.
“I went to the bank because
you couldn’t begin nursing until
Your Local MP for Banks Peninsula
Tracey
McLellan
It’s a great time of year in Christchurch
- the days are warm and long, there are
events to suit every taste, and a fun,
relaxed atmosphere prevails.
The preparation for SailGP, the premier
yacht racing event coming to Lyttelton
Harbour in 2023, has plenty of wind in
its sails. A recent community meeting
highlighted the opportunities the event
presents to harbour communities and
the enthusiasm of those who attended
was evident.
Mid October found me in Akaroa and
Duvauchelle for a series of visits. It was great
to catch up with Deb and the team from
Duvauchelle School, visit the new pre-school
next door and talk to locals at an Akaroa
Community Clinic. It was a good reminder
of how receptive and informed Banks
Peninsula communities are.
As it does so often, Banks Peninsula
turned on the sun for the Governors Bay
Fete on 16 October. It was a fun day and
a great fundraiser for the community. I
enjoyed the shade of the Labour Gazebo
while talking with fete-goers, who were
eager to have a chat and ask questions.
you were 18 and I thought I’d like
to do that job,” she said.
“So I went to the bank and I
told the bank manager I’m only
staying for two years and he
said ‘no, you won’t because you
won’t get so much pay’ and that’s
exactly right.”
She received eight pound a
week at the bank, but only four
pound and nine pence while
training.
But the pay did not deter Lois,
as she had made up her mind.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern came
to town again a couple of weeks back
and it was fantastic to join her as she
checked out some of city’s best and
brightest workplaces. Christchurch is
increasingly becoming the HQ for both
small and large companies and a hub
for entrepreneurs.
A regular event that I find really
valuable is a catch up with the
many church representatives spread
throughout the electorate. They share
my deep passion and concern for the
community and the welfare of all those
who live within. It is always interesting
to hear their thoughts and suggestions
for our collective challenges.
Congratulations to the Sumner Lifeboat
crews who took out last week’s awards
and also to the Governors Bay Jetty
Restoration Trust for their Art Auction
- ‘Distinctly Peninsula’ – which featured
talented local artists. The Trust is doing
great work and I was pleased to hear that
the first piles of the new jetty have been
installed. I’m watching with interest as
the jetty is restored to its former glory.
Authorised by Tracey McLellan 642 Ferry Road and paid for by the Parliamentary Service
The girls who entered the
programme were “nervous, naive
and excited”, Lois recalled.
“We wore bright pink dresses
under crisp white aprons,
wrestled with fiddly studs on our
starched collars, cuffs and hats,”
she said.
For three months, the girls did
preliminary training, staying
in the classroom except to take
patients to chapel on Sundays.
“Everybody would know if
you’re in pink, you don’t know
much, don’t trust them,” Lois
said with a chuckle.
If they passed their exam at
the end of the three months, they
moved to a grey uniform of the
same design and began their onthe-job
training.
“We moved around while we
were training, we would go to
one ward for three months and
then you’d get moved on.”
She said the sisters on the
wards seemed like “dragons”
back then.
years since nursing training
Back then, bandages had to be
washed and rolled back up again,
she recalled.
They only had one day off a
week and were required to be in
by 10pm during their first year
and 11.15pm during the rest of
the time.
Though they worked long
hours, Lois said they loved it.
“We did it because we loved
the people, we loved the thought
of caring for people. I think
that’s what it came back to, caring
for people and seeing them
get better, nursing them for a lot
longer,” she said.
“Today, the average days in
hospital is very short, isn’t it?
Because in those days they were
quite long and we got to know
the patients very well.”
Nursing is completely different
today than it was when they were
training: it is more technical.
The wards were big and long
rooms, and sometimes, when
overstretched, people would be
in the centre and in corridors.
“You had a heart attack in
those days, you weren’t even
allowed to clean your teeth.
You had to sit for several weeks,
whereas today they have a stent
put in and they’re on their way
the next day,” Lois said.
They worried about whether
the wheels on the bed were
TRAINING: Lois Eagle said the trainee nurses found their
lifelong friendship while studying. Above right – the
pamphlet they were given about nurse training.
straight or the sheets and blankets
had the corners mitred. The
girls were taught how to clean
and clean again, how to shake
glass thermometers and read the
mercury, and change the sheets
and rubber mackintoshes.
Lois noted respect was something
they were steeped in.
Whenever a matron or a
surgeon came in the room, they
were required to quickly roll
their sleeves down, put their
cuffs on, put their hands behind
their backs and ask them what
they wanted.
While they completed their
three-years-and-three-months
training, the girls stayed near the
hospital.
“I think because we lived in
. . . we became very good
friends,” Lois recalled.
“We used to laugh together
and we used to cry together too,
I can tell you that . . . but we
worked very hard.”
Lois said not all of them made
it through the training but most
did, including herself.
“Some of them dropped out to
be married,” she said, noting you
had to be single to train.
“In those days you know . . .
you didn’t work when you were
married, you stayed home. You
were a home-maker,” Lois said.
“Some of them decided it
wasn’t for them, some of them
just didn’t finish their exams but
we still remain friends, that first
class.”
Once they graduated in 1960,
the new nurses were given a
new blue uniform of the same
pattern, as well as the five-star
medal of a Christchurch Public
Hospital staff nurse.
Lois worked for six months
‘We used to laugh together
and we used to cry together
too, I can tell you that . . .
but we worked very hard’
– Lois Eagle
nursing before leaving and
getting married. In 1969, she
became a driving instructor and
continued that for 48 years at the
Cashmere Driving School.
Some of the 47 continued on to
become great nurses, Lois said.
About 22 of them attended
their “very big” 60th reunion at
Newbury Lodge. Some husbands
also attended.
For the 65th, they were intending
to meet in January, but Covid
meant they had to delay it until
November.
“We decided that we would go
and meet at The George,” Lois
said.
“Quite expensive but quite nice
and we will be there as a special
thing for 65 years since we started
together.”
Lois surprised the rest of the
group by recreating the original
uniform they wore in 1957 as
“pinkies”.
She still had her blue dress
from when she graduated and so
bought some pink material from
Spotlight and got her dressmaker
friend to make it. The apron is
originally hers.
NEWS 9
Bid to eradicate possums
on Banks Peninsula
Wednesday November 9 2022 Bay Harbour News
A MAJOR possum control
programme is under way over
large areas of Banks Peninsula
where it’s estimated there
could be between 120,000 and
150,000 of the pests.
The initial three-year programme
is being managed and
delivered by Pest Free Banks
Peninsula with a mix of central,
regional and local government
funding, and supports
the Government’s Predator
Free 2050 initiative.
While most of the work is
on private land there are also
areas of public land, including
city council reserves where
control work will be taking
place.
Said Banks Peninsula/Port
Hills regional parks head
ranger Paul Devlin: “We have
engaged with PFBP to grant
the necessary permissions and
involved our waterways team
and approval from the health
protection officer/HSNO officer
from Te Whatu Ora Health
New Zealand to ensure we are
fully compliant. It will include
community notification and
signage,”
A mixture of methods are
being used with bait stations
the main tool in conjunction
with traps. The traps are
employed to capture possums
that might shy away from
bait stations. Conservation
dogs will be used to find any
stragglers.
Bait stations will be placed
away from non-target species
like pets and stock and used
in accordance with best
practice to ensure the health
and safety of the community,
said PFBP senior team leader
Tim Sjoberg.
The damage that possums
cause to biodiversity and to
productive farmland is immense,
he said.
“This is the first big push
aimed at removing possums
completely from Banks Peninsula
so we’re very excited. We’re
covering 23,000ha between
now and 2025 so there’s a
large amount of people power
involved. At the moment we
have nine people employed
INITIATIVE:
Peninsula
team
member
Karin Bos
in the field
with traps.
and we’re looking to expand
that to 13.
“This initiative is by and for
the community so our staff are
largely local. The partnerships
we have with various organisations
and groups also help
bring in valuable expertise to
guide us towards that elimination
target.”
Treasures from the Past:
Islay Cottage, Lyttelton
WAS ISLAY Cottage Lyttelton’s
first spec build?
This early hand-coloured photograph
from the museum collection
looks towards Ticehurst
Rd and the base of the Bridle
Path with the old Lyttelton band
rotunda clearly visible in the
foreground. This structure was
removed, along with the houses
directly behind it, during the
construction of the road tunnel
in the early 1960s.
At the centre-left of the image
is a small cottage with three
dormer windows, an important
surviving example of early
colonial architecture and a significant
landmark at the start of
the climb to the Bridle Path.
Islay Cottage, as it became
known, was built on land allocated
to the Reverend Dudley,
chaplain on the Cressy; one of
the first four Canterbury Association
ships to arrive in Ōhinehou
Lyttelton in December 1850 as
part of the organised emigration
of settlers to establish a Church
of England colony in Canterbury.
In early 1851, Reverend Dudley
sold a quarter acre of this land to
Thomas Kent, a carpenter who
had also arrived on the Cressy
with his family. Kent and his
Islay Cottage can be seen to the centre-left.
Te Ūaka The Lyttelton Museum ref 14986.28
www.teuaka.org.nz/online-collection/1136192
son Joseph built a gabled cottage
with three dormer windows and
straight run verandah with walls
of pit sawn timber (possibly
brought from England) and
rammed earth (cob) on stone
foundations.
Clearly a ‘spec’ build, Kent
sold the new building to George
Lockhart and Augustus White
for £80 – a tidy profit on the £17
it had cost him to purchase the
land from the Reverend Dudley.
In 1857 the cottage again
changed hands, bought by Dr
John Seager Gundry, who had
been Surgeon-Superintendent on
another Canterbury Association
ship, the Steadfast. In his diaries,
Gundry refers to the four-anda-half
hour walk over the Bridle
Path to Christchurch – as he
lived in Christchurch, he may
well have purchased the cottage
for a base during his frequent
trips to and from Lyttelton.
Islay Cottage today.
www.heritage.org.nz/thelist/details/3351
In 1870, Gundry sold the cottage
to Captain Hugh McLellan,
a master mariner who was Lyttelton’s
piermaster, wharfmaster
and finally harbourmaster in
1877. McLellan was responsible
for naming the cottage after his
original home on the island of
Islay in Argyllshire, Scotland. He
married Sarah Plaisted, a young
immigrant who had been orphaned
by the death of her father
shortly after her arrival onboard
the Isabella Hercus in 1851.
Islay Cottage was an ideal vantage
point for a man responsible
for the movement of shipping in
Whakaraupō Lyttelton Harbour.
However, due to a reportedly
fiery ‘Scottish’ personality, Captain
McLellan was a somewhat
NEWS 11
contentious figure in the community
and resigned as harbourmaster
in 1885, to be succeeded
by Captain J W Clark.
The cottage, however, continued
to be home for his large
family – 10 children were raised
within the small footprint of
the building. With its steep
staircase most resembling a
ladder, leading to two small attic
bedrooms, the children must
have been lined up like sardines
for sleeping!
The cottage remained in the
hands of McLellan descendants
until 2004; first Edna (daughter
of Captain McLellan) and her
husband Walter Cattle, followed
by their niece Flora Sneddon.
In 1978 it was sold to Gloria
Mitchell, and again in 2004 to
a descendant of the Gundry
family, who lovingly restored it.
Having changed hands a
number of times since then,
this largely unaltered example
of mid-19th century domestic
European architecture was
recognised by Heritage New
Zealand with category two
historic place status in December
1990. Beautifully repaired and
refitted post-earthquakes, it is
presented by the current owners
as boutique accommodation.
Making Dyers Pass
Road safer
We’re making good progress on safety
improvement work on Dyers Pass Road between
Sign of the Takahe and Governors Bay.
We’re widening seal on the road and installing safety barriers in a few more
high-risk locations to make Dyers Pass Road safer for everyone.
We’re just over halfway through the work, and will be out of your way in
December as planned.
If you can, we encourage road users to detour via the Lyttelton tunnel or
Gebbies Pass. Otherwise expect delays of up to 20 minutes plus the normal
travel time. Look out for the live travel time information on the electronic sign
boards located at the intersections of Governors Bay Road/Dyers Pass Road
and on Colombo Street, near Malcolm Ave.
Thanks for your patience while we make Dyers Pass Road safer for everyone.
18 Bay Harbour News Wednesday November 9 2022
Ranger benefits from new engine
I CAN’T HELP but feel a little
disappointed when one of my
favourite engines becomes no
longer available.
One in particular is the fivecylinder
diesel that has been fitted
to Ford’s Ranger and Everest for
going on 12 years. It was a real
champion in terms of performance
and character.
However, I can relax knowing
that an engine of similar character
is now an option on Ranger, it is
a 3-litre turbocharged V6 diesel,
and it is lusty, quiet, and has fuel
economy on its side.
Well, that’s just one option in
new Ranger, of course you can also
have the 2-litre twin-turbocharged
four-cylinder engine that Ford has
been introducing slowly over the
last couple of years. I‘ve driven two
variants of it in the time since and
can also report that it is smooth,
refined and easily capable of
providing the Ranger buyer with
the performance befitting a double
cab utility.
This evaluation focuses on the
four-wheel-drive, Sport double cab
with the new V6. It is a punchy unit
with Ford claiming power outputs
of 184kW and a hearty 600Nm of
torque, the latter available from
1750rpm to 2250pm, arriving just
1000rpm lower than the area of
peak power.
It’s these figures that make the
2993cc unit so flexible and willing
to work low down, yet freeing up
to breathe willingly at the top end.
Add in the beauty of a 10-speed
automatic transmission and you
have a driveline that is car-like in
its feel and presentation.
In fact, the new Ranger has
become so refined that it feels
like a car to drive, sure it’s a lot
bigger than the average sedan,
and there’s a bit more bulk to
consider if you are on the hunt
for an inner-city park, but it is for
this kind of sophistication that
people buy double cab utes. There’s
comfortable space for five adults
and there’s a wealth of kit and
technology within the vehicle to
keep the kids and adults happy and,
of course, there is a high degree
of safety with most modern aids
incorporated into the package.
In Sport form it comes complete
with full leather trim, satellite
navigation, adaptable cruise
control and electric driver’s seat
adjustment, just to mention a few
of the major items, but for your
$75,490 outlay you do get all the kit
worthy of the price. What’s more
you are getting a workhorse, the
rear deck area is just a bonus really,
the Ranger is a versatile carryall
that will also haul up to 3500kg on
the tow bar.
It was a case of really good
timing that the new Ranger was
placed my care, I had just dropped
a pesky shrub that was taking up
more space in the driveway than
was ever intended. I used the
Ranger’s deck space to off-load it
to the green waste depot. It’s these
types of tasks that make today’s
pick-up so handy, it is a family car
but with a multitude of uses.
Underneath, the Ranger sits on a
traditional ladder chassis and live
axle, leaf spring rear suspension,
the latter now fitted with disc
brakes. That’s the traditional
WORKHORSE: The Ford Ranger has substantial load space as well as offering seating for
five.
FORD RANGER SPORT: Choice of V6 or four-cylinder diesel power.
• Price – Ford Ranger Sport
double cab, $75,490
• Dimensions – Length,
5359mm; width, 1850mm;
height, 1815mm
• Configuration – V6, fourwheel-drive,
2993cc,
184kW, 600Nm, 10-speed
automatic
• Performance –
0-100km/h, 8.8sec
• Fuel usage – 8.4/100km
load bearing design, yet it works
well, the suspension isn’t firmed
dramatically, instead the ride
is comfortable and controlled
with just a small jiggle or two
transmitted in-cabin over the worst
of our uneven road surfaces.
When the need comes to travel
off-road the Ranger gets an
electronically controlled transfer
system, in typical ute fashion there’s
high and low ratio gearing, easily
manipulated by a centre console
dial. I didn’t travel off the seal,
except for a section of very rough
ground thanks to ongoing street
repairs close to where I live. At
30km/h the Ranger’s suspension
absorption easily contains the
bumps, and control within the
vehicle is confidence-boosting.
In terms of on-road handling, the
Ranger steers with well-weighted
steering, and directional accuracy
not always found in the traditional
double-cab ute.
In terms of fuel usage, Ford
claims an 8.4-litre per 100km
combined cycle average. The trip
computer was constantly listing
around 10.3l/100km during my
time with the evaluation vehicle,
which would make Ford’s claim
achievable given that at 100km/h
in top gear the engine is turning
over at just 1600prm, returning
an instantaneous figure of around
7.5l/100km.
There’s no question the Ranger is
pricey, but it is on a par with many
of the other premium models in
the pick-up sector. However, you
are buying quality, and with that
fabulous V6 engine (or bi-turbo) it
will keep you entertained for years.
Ford offers a five-year 150,000km
warranty which tells you the
company has much faith in its
product.
Bear in mind, though, you
will be bitten at purchase, the
Government will want around
$4k off you as part of its clean car
programme or, as it has become
commonly known, a ute tax. Still,
such is the all-round brilliance of
the Ranger, it is money well spent.
Ford has done a clever job with
Ranger, not only has it been kept
fresh over the years, the driveline
combinations provide the buyer
with plenty of choice. It’s the
quality within the vehicle that
will help maintain Ford’s position
with Ranger, it commands the ute
market here and I can’t see it being
toppled from that spot any time
soon.
CHEERS!!
TO THE BIG CHEESE!
A massive thanks to you Mike, for 14 years stellar service and over half a million delicious gourmet pizzas
(that’s a lot of mozzarella) you’ve done a fabulous job and we wish you well for whatever may come in the future!
