Stimulus: Build

I chose to explore the

building of time and therefore

ageing and the way that it

effects the skin and its

texture; I began looking at

hands. Here I have used

pencil, watercolour, charcoal

and ink scratched into

acetate.

Inspired by Edie Nadelhaft

In both of these

pieces inspired by

Nadelhaft and

Hawkinson I have

used paint to add

colour to the

fabrics, wadding to

create a 3D effect

and then have sewed

into them to create

detail. In the

photographs I have

used wet silk to

create an

exaggerated skin

like effect.

Inspired by Tim Hawkinson

Inspired by Christo and Jeanne-

Claude

I then explored tension and

the wrinkles and folds that

were created when material

is wrapped around objects.

I used different types of

string/wire and fabrics and

also explored with dye.

These samples and

garments to me

resemble skin and

inspired my own

garment. Two of the

samples were made

using a felt machine

and the third was

made by sewing and

pulling the thread

taught.

Here I am combining my first

hand photographs and Sladen’s

work with fashion.

Here I am

using the

cotton I

plan to use

to make my

garment and

I am

testing a

ruching

technique.

I then made a

blazer in the same

fabric as the

trousers to match,

using the same

ruching technique.

For my dress I

chose a more

translucent,

lighter fabric and

gathered it

through the sewing

machine to create

this effect.

I am now in the process of

making a bag to add to my

collection.
