Ipswich were quietly enjoying a
fine season but their victory in this
round of fixtures inadvertently
helped their bitter rivals Norwich.
The Tractor Boys pulled off a wellearned
2-1 win over then league
leaders Manchester United thanks
to goals from Chris Kiwomya and
Frank Yallop. Brian McClair’s late
reply wasn’t enough as both the
Red Devils and Villa dropped vital
points allowing Norwich to once
again top the league. Meanwhile,
Ipswich had crept into fourth with
just four defeats all season.

Blackburn played again on the
following Tuesday and their title
hopes lay in tatters after defeat
to Crystal Palace who moved
further clear of the drop zone.
