STRENGTH OF GROUP SHOWING, SAYS SANDER
The returning
Sander Berge says
United’s strength
in depth has been a huge
factor in the recent
success as United enter
the second half of the
Championship season.
The Blades have had
to contend with a lengthy
injury list this season but
despite losing several
key players, including
Sander, for long periods,
Paul Heckingbottom’s side
have found a way to keep
picking up crucial points.
With the Blades sat
second coming into this
Boxing Day clash with
Coventry City, Sander is
adamant that the strength
of the overall group is
responsible for United’s
consistent run of form.
He told SUTV: “It’s a
huge period for us. The
form and consistency of
late, despite the injuries,
has been good. It has
been tough to maintain
our position, but I think
everyone has pushed hard
and it has showed the
strength of the group, that
we have 20-25 players
who can all compete in
a good way at this level.
Where we are right now is
a good place to be, but it
can change quickly in this
PLAYER FOCUS
league, and we know the
importance of every game.
Every game is different
though, so we need to be
at our best to keep going.”
The Norway international
used the break for the
World Cup to full effect
by stepping up his
rehabilitation from an
ankle issue, returning
from the bench against
Huddersfield before
starting in United’s most
recent win over Wigan at
the DW Stadium.
He added: “I’d been
waiting for quite a while to
get back and obviously the
World Cup break has come
at a good time for me. I’ve
worked hard to get back
and it was nice to get some
minutes in the win against
Huddersfield.
“I wanted to be back as
soon as possible but it was
also about being patient
too. Basically, it was about
striking the right balance
and luckily with the break
I had the time, and it was
nice to be back in time for
the Huddersfield game and
then to play a part from the
start against Wigan.”
