Welcome
Dear saints,
What a gift it is to gather once more at the nativity of Jesus, taking our
place in the scene as light comes into the world. I imagine that you,
as I, have heard this story many times over. Or perhaps you are here
in a church at Christmas for the first time, and all of this will be new.
Wherever you are on your journey of faith, know that you are welcome
here, for that is the heart of the story we celebrate today. It’s a story of
wonder yet also a story about something very earthly — a birth. A story
that makes an audacious claim about the divine life — that God would
take the form of humankind — yet also a story about us that says that
you and I are worthy of God’s love. I pray that something of this ancient
tale will reveal for you an eternal truth: that the God who draws close to
you is being revealed in glory through the lives of each of us.
So, welcome home to All Saints’ and may God’s grace, mercy and peace
be with you and all whom you love and pray for this Christmas.
Blessings,
Hymn |
The people remain seated until stanza 3, when all stand.
“Once in royal David’s city”
Irby
Solo
1 Once in royal David’s city
stood a lowly cattle shed,
where a mother laid her baby
in a manger for his bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ her little child.
All
4 And our eyes at last shall see him,
through his own redeeming love;
for that child who seemed so helpless
is our Lord in heaven above;
and he leads his children on
to the place where he is gone.
Choir 2 He came down to earth from heaven,
who is God and Lord of all,
and his shelter was a stable,
and his cradle was a stall;
with the poor, the scorned, the lowly
lived on earth our Savior holy.
All
5 Not in that poor lowly stable,
with the oxen standing by,
we shall see him; but in heaven,
set at God’s right hand on high;
where like stars his children crowned
all in white shall wait around.
All
3 For he is our lifelong pattern;
daily, when on earth he grew;
he was tempted, scorned, rejected,
tears and smiles like us he knew.
Thus he feels for all our sadness,
and he shares in all our gladness.
Bidding Prayer |
Officiant
Beloved in Christ, be it this Christmas Eve
our care and delight to prepare ourselves
to hear again the message of the angels; in
heart and mind to go even unto Bethlehem
and see this thing which is come to pass, and
the Babe lying in a manger. Let us read and
mark in Holy Scripture the tale of the loving
purposes of God from the first days of our
disobedience unto the glorious Redemption
brought us by this Holy Child; and let us
make this Church glad with our carols of
praise: But first let us pray for the needs of
the whole world; for peace and goodwill over
all the earth; for unity and concord within
the Church he came to build, and especially
The Rev. Dr. Simon J. Mainwaring
this country and this city. And because this
of all things would rejoice his heart, let us
at this time remember in his name the poor
and the helpless, the cold, the hungry and the
oppressed; the sick in body and in mind and
them that mourn; the lonely and the unloved.
Lastly let us remember before God all those
who rejoice with us, but upon another shore
and in a greater light, that multitude which no
one can number, whose hope was in the Word
made flesh, and with whom, in this Lord Jesus,
we for evermore are one. These prayers and
praises let us humbly offer up to the throne
of heaven, in the words which Christ himself
hath taught us:
Officiant and People
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Officiant
May Almighty God bless us with grace: Christ give us the joys of everlasting life: and unto the
fellowship of the citizens above may the King of Angels bring us all. Amen.
The people are seated.
First Lesson | Genesis 3:1–15
Jerry Byrd
God announces in the Garden of Eden that the seed of woman shall bruise the serpent’s head.
Now the serpent was more crafty than any
other wild animal that the Lord God had
made. He said to the woman, “Did God
say, ‘You shall not eat from any tree in the
garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We
may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden;
but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of
the tree that is in the middle of the garden, nor
shall you touch it, or you shall die.’“ But the
serpent said to the woman, “You will not die;
for God knows that when you eat of it your
eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,
knowing good and evil.”
3
allsaintsatlanta.org

So when the woman saw that the tree was
good for food, and that it was a delight to the
eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to
make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate;
and she also gave some to her husband, who
was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both
were opened, and they knew that they were
naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and
made loincloths for themselves. They heard
the sound of the Lord God walking in the
garden at the time of the evening breeze, and
the man and his wife hid themselves from the
presence of the Lord God among the trees of
the garden.
But the Lord God called to the man, and said
to him, “Where are you?” He said, “I heard the
sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid,
because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
Reader
Thanks be to God.
He said, “Who told you that you were naked?
Have you eaten from the tree of which I
commanded you not to eat?” The man said,
“The woman whom you gave to be with me,
she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.”
Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What
is this that you have done?” The woman said,
“The serpent tricked me, and I ate.”
The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because
you have done this, cursed are you among all
animals and among all wild creatures; upon
your belly you shall go, and dust you shall
eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity
between you and the woman, and between
your offspring and hers; he will strike your
head, and you will strike his heel.”
Ed Wooller
God promises to faithful Abraham and Sarah that in his seed shall the nations of the earth be blessed.
The angel of the Lord called to Abraham a
Third Lesson | Isaiah 9:2, 6–7
The Rev. Karen Evans
Christ’s birth and kingdom are foretold by Isaiah.
The people who walked in darkness have
seen a great light; those who lived in a land
of deep darkness — on them light has shined.
For a child has been born for us, a son given
to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and
he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty
God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Reader
Thanks be to God.
His authority shall grow continually, and
there shall be endless peace for the throne of
David and his kingdom. He will establish and
uphold it with justice and with righteousness
from this time onward and forevermore. The
zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Hymn | “O little town of Bethlehem”
The people stand and sing.
1 O little town of Bethlehem,
how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
the silent stars go by;
yet in thy dark streets shineth
the everlasting Light;
the hopes and fears of all the years
are met in thee tonight.
2 For Christ is born of Mary;
and gathered all above,
while mortals sleep, the angels keep
their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars, together
proclaim the holy birth!
and praises sing to God the King,
and peace to men on earth.
the wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
the blessings of his heaven.
No ear may hear his coming,
but in this world of sin,
where meek souls will receive him, still
the dear Christ enters in.
4 O holy Child of Bethlehem,
descend to us, we pray;
cast out our sin and enter in,
Fourth Lesson | Isaiah 11:1–3a, 4a, 6–9
Dot Miller
The peace that Christ will bring is foreshown.
A shoot shall come out from the stump of
Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.
The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the
spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit
of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge
and the fear of the Lord. His delight shall be
in the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge by
what his eyes see, or decide by what his ears
hear; but with righteousness he shall judge
the poor, and decide with equity for the meek
of the earth; he shall strike the earth with the
rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his
Reader
lips he shall kill the wicked. The wolf shall live
with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with
the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling
together, and a little child shall lead them. The
cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall
lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw
like the ox. The nursing child shall play over
the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall
put its hand on the adder’s den. They will not
hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for
the earth will be full of the knowledge of the
Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Carol | “A tender shoot” Otto Goldschmidt (1829–1907)
A tender shoot has started up from a root
of grace,
as ancient seers imparted from Jesse’s
holy race:
It blooms without a blight, blooms in the
cold bleak winter,
turning our darkness into light.
Words: William Bartholomew (1793–1867)
This shoot Isaiah taught us, from Jesse’s root
should spring;
The Virgin Mary brought us the branch of
which we sing;
Our God of endless might gave her this child
to save us,
Thus turning darkness into light.
Fifth Lesson | Luke 1:26–35, 38
The Rev. Dr. Jennifer McBride
The angel Gabriel salutes the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent
by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was
Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s
name was Mary. And he came to her and said,
“Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”
But she was much perplexed by his words and
pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have found favor with God. And now,
you will conceive in your womb and bear a
son, and you will name him Jesus. He will
be great, and will be called the Son of the
Reader
Thanks be to God.
Most High, and the Lord God will give to
him the throne of his ancestor David. He will
reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of
his kingdom there will be no end.” Mary said
to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a
virgin?” The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit
will come upon you, and the power of the
Most High will overshadow you; therefore the
child to be born will be holy; he will be called
Son of God. Then Mary said, “Here am I, the
servant of the Lord; let it be with me according
to your word.” Then the angel departed from
her.
Alvin Moore
St. Luke tells of the birth of Jesus.
In those days a decree went out from Emperor
Augustus that all the world should
be registered. All went to their own towns to
be registered. Joseph also went from the town
of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city
of David called Bethlehem, because he was
descended from the house and family
of David.
Reader
He went to be registered with Mary, to whom
he was engaged and who was expecting
a child. While they were there, the time came
for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth
to her firstborn son and wrapped him in
bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger,
because there was no place for them in
the inn.
Seventh Lesson | Luke 2:8–16
The Rev. Dr. Andrew K. Barnett
The shepherds go to the manger.
In that region there were shepherds living
in the fields, keeping watch over their flock
by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood
before them, and the glory of the Lord shone
around them, and they were terrified. But the
angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see —
I am bringing you good news of great joy for
all the people: to you is born this day in the
city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the
Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find
a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying
in a manger.” And suddenly there was with
the angel a multitude of the heavenly host,
praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the
highest heaven, and on earth peace among
those whom he favors!” When the angels had
left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds
said to one another, “Let us go now to
Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken
place, which the Lord has made known to us.”
So they went with haste and found Mary and
Joseph, and the child lying in the manger.
Eighth Lesson | Matthew 2:1–12
The wise men are led by the star to Jesus.
In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was
born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from
the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is
the child who has been born king of the Jews?
For we observed his star at its rising, and
have come to pay him homage.” When King
Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all
Jerusalem with him; and calling together all
the chief priests and scribes of the people, he
inquired of them where the Messiah was to be
born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea;
for so it has been written by the prophet:
‘And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of
Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is
to shepherd my people Israel.’” Then Herod
secretly called for the wise men and learned
from them the exact time when the star had
appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem,
saying, “Go and search diligently for the child;
and when you have found him, bring me word
so that I may also go and pay him homage.”
When they had heard the king, they set out;
and there, ahead of them, went the star that
they had seen at its rising, until it stopped
over the place where the child was. When
they saw that the star had stopped, they were
overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house,
they saw the child with Mary his mother; and
they knelt down and paid him homage. Then,
opening their treasure chests, they offered
him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
And having been warned in a dream not
to return to Herod, they left for their own
country by another road.
St. John unfolds the great mystery of the Incarnation.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God. He was
in the beginning with God. All things came
into being through him, and without him not
one thing came into being. What has come
into being in him was life, and the life was the
light of all people.
The light shines in the darkness, and the
darkness did not overcome it. There was a
man sent from God, whose name was John. He
came as a witness to testify to the light, so that
all might believe through him. He himself
was not the light, but he came to testify to
Rector Thanks be to God.
9
The Rev. Dr. Simon J. Mainwaring
the light. The true light, which enlightens
everyone, was coming into the world. He was
in the world, and the world came into being
through him; yet the world did not know
him. He came to what was his own, and his
own people did not accept him. But to all who
received him, who believed in his name, he
gave power to become children of God, who
were born, not of blood or of the will of the
flesh or of the will of man, but of God. And
the Word became flesh and lived among us,
and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a
father’s only son, full of grace and truth.
“Of the Father’s love begotten”
Divinum mysterium plainsong chant
Of the Father’s love begotten e’re the worlds began to be.
He is Alpha and Omega, He the Source, the ending He,
Of the things that are, that have been, and that future years shall see, evermore and evermore.
O ye heights of heaven adore Him; angel hosts His praises sing.
Powers, dominions bow before Him and extol our God and King.
Let no tongue on earth be silent, every voice in concert ring evermore and evermore.
The First Lesson | Luke 2:1–7
A reading from the Gospel according to Luke.
In those days a decree went out from Emperor
Augustus that all the world should
be registered. This was the first registration
and was taken while Quirinius was governor
of Syria. All went to their own towns to be
registered. Joseph also went from the town
of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city
of David called Bethlehem, because he was
He went to be registered with Mary, to whom
he was engaged and who was expecting a
child. While they were there, the time came for
her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to
her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of
cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there
was no place for them in the inn.
tune: Lloyd Larson (b. 1954), adapted
Primary and Junior Choirs
Joseph and Mary journeyed across the barren land.
They came to pay their taxes in tiny Bethlehem.
They could not find a place to stay, to safely rest and sleep,
but then they found a stable, a place for lowly sheep.
No room, no room, the inn was full that night.
No room, no room, for Christ the world’s true light.
No palace bed to lay his head, just a humble manger stall.
No room, no room, for Christ the Lord of all.
them, and they were terrified. But the angel
The Nicene Creed |
The people stand.
Officiant Let us affirm our faith using the words of the Nicene Creed.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the
Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under
Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of
the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the
living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord,
the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is
worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and
apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the
forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Eucharistic Prayer B |
Celebrant
It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Almighty
God, Creator of heaven and earth.
Because you gave Jesus Christ, your only Son, to be born for us; who, by the mighty power of the
Holy Spirit, was made perfect Man of the flesh of the Virgin Mary his mother; so that we might
be delivered from the bondage of sin, and receive power to become your children.
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the
company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:
22

Sanctus | Jefferson McConnaughey (b. 1952)
The Celebrant continues
We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in
creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets;
and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be
incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have
delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out
of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.
On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given
thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body,
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and
said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for
all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
“Schlafendes Jesuskind” from Mörike-Lieder Hugo Wolf (1860–1903)
Son of the Virgin, heavenly child! Asleep on the ground, on the wood of suffering, which the
pious painter, in meaningful play, has laid beneath thy gentle dreams; O flower, still the glory of
God the Father! Though still hidden in the dark bud! Ah, if one could see what pictures, behind
this brow and these dark lashes, are reflected in gentle succession!
“O holy night” Adolphe Adam (1803–1856)
arr. James Biery
O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
it is the night of our dear Savior’s birth. Long
lay the world in sin and error pining, till he
appear’d and the soul felt its worth. A thrill
of hope, the weary world rejoices, for yonder
breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your
knees! O hear the angel voices! O night divine,
O night when Christ was born; O night divine,
O night, O night Divine.
Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming,
with glowing hearts by his cradle we stand. So
led by light of a star sweetly gleaming, here
come the wise men from the Orient land. The
King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger; in all
our trials born to be our friend. He knows our
need, to our weaknesses no stranger, behold
your King! Before him lowly bend! Behold your
King, before him lowly bend!
Truly he taught us to love one another; his law
is love and his gospel is peace. Chains shall he
break for the slave is our brother; and in his
name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns
of joy in grateful chorus raise we, let all within
us praise his holy name. Christ is the Lord!
O praise his Name forever, his power and
glory evermore proclaim; his power and glory
evermore proclaim.
Words: Placide Cappeau (1808-1877); English translation by John Sullivan Dwight (1813–1893)
The Word of God
The Officiant, standing between two torchbearers at the back of the nave,
reads from the Gospel of John 1:1–5; 10–14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God. He was
in the beginning with God. All things came
into being through him, and without him not
one thing came into being. What has come
into being in him was life, and the life was
the light of all people. The light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness did not overcome
it. He was in the world, and the world came
into being through him; yet the world did not
know him. He came to what was his own, and
his own people did not accept him. But to all
who received him, who believed in his name,
he gave power to become children of God, who
were born, not of blood or of the will of the
flesh or of the will of man, but of God. And the
Word became flesh and lived among us, and
we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s
only son, full of grace and truth.
The First Reading | Isaiah 9:2–7
The people who walked in darkness have seen
a great light; those who lived in a land of deep
darkness— on them light has shined. You have
multiplied the nation, you have increased its
joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the
harvest, as people exult when dividing plunder.
For the yoke of their burden, and the bar across
their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor, you
have broken as on the day of Midian. For all
the boots of the tramping warriors and all
the garments rolled in blood shall be burned
as fuel for the fire. For a child has been born
for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon
his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace. His authority shall grow
continually, and there shall be endless peace
for the throne of David and his kingdom. He
will establish and uphold it with justice and
with righteousness from this time onward and
forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will
do this.
Glory to you, Lord Christ.
In those days a decree went out from Emperor
Augustus that all the world should
be registered. This was the first registration
and was taken while Quirinius was governor
of Syria. All went to their own towns to be
registered. Joseph also went from the town
of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city
of David called Bethlehem, because he was
descended from the house and family of David.
He went to be registered with Mary, to whom
he was engaged and who was expecting a
child. While they were there, the time came
for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth
to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands
of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because
there was no place for them in the inn.
In that region there were shepherds living in
the fields, keeping watch over their flock by
night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before
them, and the glory of the Lord shone around
them, and they were terrified. But the angel
said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see —
I am bringing you good news of great joy for
The Rev. Kaitlyn V. Presley
all the people: to you is born this day in the
city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the
Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find
a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in
a manger.” And suddenly there was with the
angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising
God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest
heaven, and on earth peace among those whom
he favors!” When the angels had left them and
gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one
another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see
this thing that has taken place, which the Lord
has made known to us.” So they went with
haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the
child lying in the manger. When they saw this,
they made known what had been told them
about this child; and all who heard it were
amazed at what the shepherds told them. But
Mary treasured all these words and pondered
them in her heart. The shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God for all they had
heard and seen, as it had been told them.
The Nicene Creed |
The people stand.
Officiant Let us affirm our faith using the words of the Nicene Creed.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the
Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under
Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus
Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
Pleni sunt cæli et terra gloria tua.
Hosanna in excelsis.
Hosanna in excelsis.
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
The Celebrant continues
We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in
creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets;
and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son.
39
allsaintsatlanta.org

On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given
thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body,
which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and
said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for
all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
Therefore, according to his command, O God,
Celebrant and People
We remember his death,
We proclaim his resurrection,
We await his coming in glory;
The Celebrant continues
And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you,
from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy
Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ, and his Blood of
the new covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him,
being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under
your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the
everlasting heritage of your children; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation,
the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation.
By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is
yours, Almighty God, now and forever.
And now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
The Lord’s Prayer |
Celebrant and People
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Communion Meditation |
“Gesù bambino” Pietro Yon (1886–1943)
When blossoms flowered ‘mid the snows
Upon a winter night,
Was born the Child, the Christmas Rose,
The King of Love and Light.
The angels sang, the shepherds sang,
The grateful earth rejoiced;
And at His blessed birth the stars
Their exultation voiced.
O come let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Again the heart with rapture glows
To greet the holy night,
That gave the world its Christmas Rose,
Its King of Love and Light.
Let ev’ry voice acclaim His name,
The grateful chorus swell.
From paradise to earth He came
That we with Him might dwell.
O come let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
