DORON LANGBERT YOUNG
ISRAELI PAINTER BRINGS
NEW EMPHASIS TO GAY ART
Doren Langbert, born in Israel now
working in New York City, sometimes
referred to as the center of the art
world and a dream of Lanberg since he
was 12 years old.
He describes his art, “as a desire to
communicate something that is very
fundamental to what it means to be
a person and has always been there.”
He asssociates with other LGBTQ artist
who identify with Intimism an art form
related to expressionism that evolved
in the early 1900s in Europe. Itimism is
described as a movement that depicts
sometimes considered boring subjects
like daily activities such as eating
around a dining table, or reading,
or someone sleeping. Intimism as
it is being introduced to the LGBTQ Langbergs art consists primarily of
VIRTUAL GALLERY
This Virtual Gallery is a sample of created reproductions of famous art works that I have done. The question may be asked, isn’t
copying another artist’s work plagiarism To copy another artist work is plagiarism if it is done deceptively,.that is, to claim that it is
an original and not acknowledging that it is copied. Generally art work becomes public domain after 70 years. However it may still
be owned by the estate of the artist. Any art that is copied and sold even if acknowledging it as a copy can be illegal. For this reason
anyone buying a copied art work must be assured that it is in the public domain or permission has been granted for the copy.
One artist that I admire for his technique and subjects is Franz Marc. He was a German artist who worked at the end of the 1800s
into the beginning of the 1900s. The topics he worked with were generally animals, human figures, and nature His work was in the
category of impressionism but he and a hand full of other artists followed Marc and Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian artist who Marc
waa friends with. They each shared a belief in the this statement by Marc. “I try to intensify my sensitivity for the organic rhythm
of all things.I
seek....empathy with
the vibration
and flow of the blood of
nature......in the
trees, in the animals, in
the air. ... I see no
happier medium for the
‘Animalization’
of art, as I would like to
call it”
Although
Kandinsky’s art was more
abstract than
Marc’s they shared the
same philosophy
From this philosophy of
incorporating the
rhythm of all nature they
formed a group
called Der Blaue Reiter
(The Blue Rider).
Marc loved animals and
nature and
portraid them in his art.
He used the
color blue for horses.. His
use of color was
also part of the shared
philosophy with
Kandinsky. The color blue
they believed symbolized strength and masculinity. Marc completed several paintings of blue horses. The most celbrated was title
simply, “The Blue Horses”. The original of this painting is owned by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
This is one of Marc’s painting that I chose to “copy” as a project that
helped me to more intimately understand Marc’s work. I used water
color which is a more fluid medium than the oil paint that Marc used
in the original. My copy is shown here along with a small photo of the
original.
20 DDG is always FREE ddg.gay. Available in print at select locations.
Franz Marc’s painting of “The Shepard” generally titled “Young
Boy With Lamb” was an earlier painting done prior to his
alignment with Kandinsky. It does illustrate his affinity to
nature and animals.
This copy was completed in acrylic which
gives it s similar textural quality as the original which was
done in oil. This copy is also approximately the size of the
original painting which is currently in the Guggenheim
Museum. The painting of the Blue Horses was much larger
than the copy I made. The original was approximately 3.5
feet by 6.5 feet. The copy was about one quarter of the
original size.
This copy was done for a show and was framed in a traditional
frame giving it a sense of the period it represents.
Paintings or drawings of originals can be commissioned with the understanding that a
commissioned work would be completed to be identified as a copy only and all rights to the
original artist or artists’ estate would be honored.
