2. Go to the Geotours tile to download Google Earth Pro and the accompanying

Geotours exercises file.

Expand the Geotour15 folder in Google Earth

by clicking the triangle to the left of the folder

icon.

Check and double-click the MonoCraters_

TopoMap overlay to fly to the eastern side of

the Sierra Nevada.

Mountains in California, a region that has

experienced considerable alpine/valley glaciation

(note that you can select the overlay and

use the transparency slider at the bottom of

the Places panel to make the overlay semitransparent).

(a) Check and double-click the Feature

placemark. Identify the glacial landform

represented by this linear ridge.

(b) Check and double-click the Ridges I

placemarks. Identify the glacial landforms

represented by these linear ridges.

(c) Check and double-click the Ridges II placemarks (leave the Ridges I placemarks checked). Which set of landforms

(Ridges I or Ridges II) originated first? How do you know? Hint: You may want to toggle the topographic map on

and off.

(d) Check and double-click the Peak placemark. Identify the type of glacial landform represented by this triangularshaped

peak.

(e) Check and double-click the Basin placemark. This amphitheater-shaped basin forms what type of glacial

landform? What is its valley called (relative to the Walker Creek valley that is labeled on the topographic map)?

(f) Check and double-click the Curved Ridge placemark. What type of glacial landform is this curved ridge (which is

made up of well-sorted sediment)?
