“The mother art is architecture. Without an architecture of our own, we have no soul of our own civilization.”

— Frank Lloyd Wright

Inspired To Inspire

An architect’s persistent oath or obligation

is to “Design tomorrow.” However, aside

from contributing forms and spaces to

today’s societies, the architect must

enhance personalities, celebrate cultures,

and commemorate what is uncommon,

overlooked, or forgotten. It is then the art

of the profession driven by inspiration to

inspire further. This practice is not just an

opportunity. It is a gift to the community,

a gift striving to unify characters and

experiences into works of art.

Orbetello Lagoon

“There is no child that did not love and

fear animals. Designing an architecture

to deal with the animal world means

taking inspiration from the most intimate

and archetypical image. It means

rediscovering activities and emotions

that the urban life has obfuscated and

somehow made even more sublime and

engaging.”

- YAC WWF

The Lagoon of Orbetello calls for

a nature-inspired architecture to

be embodied within its ecosystem,

emulating dynamics and freedom as the

avifauna dominate the lagoon.

Forms originate from wingspans

that overshadow their programs and

inhabitants.

Massing takes on a simplistic approach

enough to keep attention directed to

nature itself. Paper models demonstrate

the level of the structures’ simplicity.

Driven by community discussions, the YEARS Hub

addresses power outages utilizing PV arrays, flooding with

bioswales, and fresh food options with community youth

gardens; gardening activity serves as an opportunity to

merge the generational gap between the young and old

within the community.

ARCHITECTURE - ITI | ‘22 |

RESPONSES:

+ Educate and implement self-sustained agriculture in

the neighborhood

+ Incorporate passive strategies (solar panels, green

roofs) to achieve self-sustained homes; assists in

lowering the risks of power outages making them

near obsolete

+ Merge the distant gap between age groups young

and old
