Specifically, manufacturers in the beverage industry are faced with the pressure of providing product diversity while ensuring the continued requirements of compliance with standards. Seeking better equipment that speeds up the changeover process 30
Packaging When the number of SKUs is growing, it’s more crucial than ever to keep the changeover process short and sweet. When companies struggle to find processes that efficiently accommodate changeovers, these changeovers take even longer than usual due to the finetuning required. For this reason, many manufacturers are looking to invest in machines that require little to no fine-tuning post-changeover. By minimizing complexity and utilizing machines with centerlines that are simple to understand, manufacturers can improve their systems’ performance even when new challenges arise. 2. Investing in modular technologies that enhance flexibility Flexible manufacturing is essential for companies that produce many different products in varying combinations. Beverage packaging companies need equipment that can dynamically switch between container and cap sizes and apply the correct labels to various items. A go-to solution for this need is to use a collaborative robot. Collaborative robots can be easily “taught” new tasks or variations on tasks involving slightly different shapes or sizes. Guided by machine vision, these extremely flexible robots can recognise different product types and determine the appropriate next step. When combined with a mobile base, a collaborative robot can offer a fully modular material handling solution. years along with advances in technology, making it a critical application for today’s world-class manufacturers. Today the evolution of traceability to its latest phase, Traceability 4.0, is not just about tracking products throughout the supply chain but is also delivering to beverage manufacturers optimized productivity, quality and brand reputation within the manufacturing operation by tying product to process parameters. 4. Building complete liquid filling and capping solutions from a single automation supplier Machine builders face many additional challenges when incorporating technologies from multiple suppliers into a single bottling or capping machine, it can lead to increased build time, slower machine performance and more complex troubleshooting. Aware of these issues End Users are now seeking to buy complete packaging lines with multiple functions from a single source, to alleviate these issues and reduce the risk of downtime later in the machine’s life. There is a step change that bottling and capping machine builders are integrating solutions that allow end users to be more flexible with their manufacturing process, enabling them to react to the change in consumer demands more quickly and cost effectively than ever before. Implementing a more robust traceability system One of the main things mandated by beverage regulation is “traceability” the practice of maintaining thorough records on the origins and whereabouts of products and raw materials by scanning printed barcodes, direct part marks (DPMs) or radio frequency identification (RFID) tags throughout the production process and the supply chain. From raw materials supplier to production line to supermarket to customer, the creation and distribution of a particular beverage should be as transparent as possible.
