Excerpt from the original article.
I grew up in and around Warwickshire, a
leafy green county nestled in the middle of
UK. There was a lot of history to be enjoyed
living on the doorstep of Warwick Castle,
one of England’s finest medieval castles,
and Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of
William Shakespeare.
I was shy as a child but still enjoyed having
lots of lovely friends, including a core group
with whom I’m still close. I was an allrounder
at school, grasping the arts and
sciences, but my creative streak is possibly
the thing that most of my peers at school will
remember me for.
A stand-out memory was the school putting
a painting of mine forward for a national
exhibition and finding out it was accepted to
be exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London,
which I proudly attended with my mum!
Moving on ...
I went to Leeds University to study History of
Art, which I really enjoyed, but I didn’t feel
compelled to work in a gallery or museum.
Instead, I decided to apply myself to a career
in digital marketing and online project
management. This was at a time (around
2001!) when most companies and
organizations were still yet to launch their
first websites. The work I did enabled me to
use my creative streak through contributing
to the creative strategy, planning and
design of online media, as well deploying
and developing my organizational and
people skills.
“Goodbyes and New Beginnings”
Of all the people and situations you have said
goodbye to in your life, tell us about two that
you miss the most. Why is that?
I don’t tend to miss situations, even the good
ones, as goodbyes inevitably evolve into new
beginnings anyway.
For example, I have moved house a handful of
times in the past five years, some out of choice
but some through circumstances. This has
presented a challenge for me as I relish feeling
grounded, and having a home environment that
I can really relax in and enjoy is important to me.
However, I have also learned that I can
embrace the challenge of moving and can adapt
to new situations. Looking back, I also value the
contrasting living and life experiences that have
presented themselves as a result of moving.
When it comes to people, I lost my father in my
mid-twenties and I shall always miss him. He
was a rock and his love for me, and all the
family, was unequivocal.
Wellbeing Walk in Great Windsor Park.
Of all the “new beginnings” in your life, tell
us about two that you really remember/that
turned out to be unexpectedly important.
I moved from Kenilworth, Warwickshire to
Englefield Green, Surrey in 2018 to be with
someone. Whilst the relationship didn’t turn
out, the experience proved to be a fantastic
new beginning for other reasons!
Living there for four years, I connected with
wonderful people who helped me create a life
in a new part of the country, and who continue
to play an important role, despite the distance,
now that I’m living in Warwickshire again.
Through groups like AWBS and Real Networking,
and also setting up my own walking group, I met
inspiring, supportive, like-minded people who
have become friends for life.
What goodbyes do you anticipate for you
in the next two years? How do you feel
about them?
I have been through a lot of change and sadly
said goodbye to many people I love who have
passed away. I am currently growing my
Disordered eating habits and poor body
information in the media and diet culture about
what we should and shouldn’t eat, I am more
