A
fternoon activities...
Aberdeen City Beach
If you head out to the west slightly to a small
town called Banchory, you can take a short
hike up Scolty Hill and then end with tea at
Banchory Lodge. If you fancy a bit of beach,
but not far, you can head down to Aberdeen
city beach and enjoy a stroll on the boardwalk,
but don’t forget to check the tide table before
venturing. It wouldn’t be much fun if most of
the beach was under water. We have drastic
tides in these parts.
Ruins of Slains Castle
If you fancy a beach, a
castle and a natural wonder
in rock formations with puffin
sightings, you can head up
to Cruden Bay Beach. It’s a
dramatic cliff-side walk that
takes you past the ruins of
Slains Castle, the inspiration
for Dracula, and then on to
the Bullers of Buchan, where
there is a blowhole, along
with several natural arches
and puffin sightings in the
spring. You can walk back the
same way you came for three
hours total or catch a bus on
the main road back to Cruden
Bay. You should note that,
while the sun is out past
midnight in the summer,
restaurants for dinner still
prefer to close somewhere
near 9:00 pm. You can have a
late afternoon adventure, but
not too late if you still want a
good meal.
