Reflection

REFLECTION // Milchhof Pavillon Berlin // 2019 site specific installation, 280kg soil Overlays, reflections, optical illusions, visual echoes. Elma Riza developed the installation “Reflection” in a site-specific way and plays with our perception. She thus explores the porosity of the visual limits of the place between inside and outside: an extension of the outside space to the inside and vice versa. Reality and appearance, concrete landscape and mental compositions merge and invite the viewer to reinvent his or her vision of the installation. A line, an external reflection, on one side of the pavilion… this was the beginning of this work, then I asked myself how to make it visible in resonance with the place, that’s why I chose the soil, present on the outside of the pavilion. A displacement of one element to make another visible, creating an encounter between a geometric form extracted from architecture and an organic matter, both belonging to the place. Elma Riza “There is no rupture, but a tension between the element made visible and the architecture of the place.” “work and place”, Anne Marie Charbonneaux and Nobert Hillaire, 2002.
