DISCOVER THE LOIRE VALLEY WITH US
Just one hour by TGV from Paris lies the Loire Valley with its fairytale
castles, most notably Chambord, which is partly based on plans by
Leonardo da Vinci. The region is home to more than 1000 castles:
Cheverny, inhabited by the same family for many centuries, Chennonceaux,
a ladies‘ château whose most famous wing straddles the River
Cher, and many more. Discover the underground dwellings „troglodyths“
on the banks of the Loire or marvel at the numerous gardens of
the region. Of course, fine wine and culinary specialities also come
from this region. Leonardo da Vinci spent the last years of his life in the
Clos Lucé. The Mona Lisa strolled through here for many years. But other
cities along the Loire are also worth seeing: Orléans, the city of the
famous virgin who fought the English, or Tours. Following the course of
the Loire further to the Atlantic, one can discover the huge sparkling
wine cellars of Saumur, the tapestry collection of the Apocalypse in
Angers until finally reaching Nantes. The birthplace of Jules Verne, with
the mighty castle of Anne de Bretagne, which is now one of the liveliest
cities in France. Once you reach the sea, you can visit the huge
shipyards of Nanterre where, among others, the Queen Mary 2 was
built. The Loire has a thousand facets to offer!
DISCOVER PROVENCE WITH US
Provence is the dream destination of many tourists who arrive in France, with
its lavender fields, medieval villages and rich history.
The region has been inhabited for the last 10,000 years as proven by the
prehistoric Crosquer Cassis caves. Since last year, an authentic model of
this grotto can be visited in Marseille. The Greeks founded Marseille and for
the Romans the region was an important settlement on the way to Spain.
The wealth is still manifested today in the amphitheatres of Nîmes and Arles,
the Roman aqueduct Pont du Gard and many other preserved buildings.
Everyone falls for the charm of Provence, whether in Aix-en-Provence with its
magnificent markets, in the Luberon or the Camargue. Along the coast you
will find lovely little fishing villages such as Cassis.
Only 1 hour later you reach the Côte d‘Azur. Saint Tropez is still an El Dorado
for the international jet set, as are Cannes and Nice. On the coast, but also
in the hinterland, you can experience gastronomy and culture.
A trip to the Côte d‘Azur always leads to the traces of famous painters, such
as Picasso, who spent the last years of his life in Èze or Matisse, who immortalised
himself with his Rosaria Chapel. In the hinterland, the Canyon of
Verdon and the lavender fields of High Provence are fascinating.
DISCOVER CHAMPAGNE-ARDENNES WITH US
Reims lies only 140 km (90 miles) eastwards from Paris. The capital of
Champagne sits above hundreds of kilometres of champagne cellars
where the famous sparkling wine matures. Above ground, the
coronation cathedral of the French kings is a must see. Of course, a
Champagne tasting is not to be missed - discover the capital of
Champagne in nearby Hautvillier in Epernay. It was here that the
famous monk Dom Perignon laid the foundations for today‘s champagne
production. The bottle size of 0.7 l also can be traced back to him.
In his time, this corresponded to the average consumption of a man at
dinner.
A little further east, it is worth taking a detour to the battlefields of the
First World War in Verdun with the still impressive remains of the
fortifications, the citadel of Verdun and the ossuary.
The Champagne region combines tradition, modernity and boldness
with a rich history and central location in France.
Reims by visiting with a local guide the city centre
and in particular the famous Notre-Dame de
Reims cathedral where several kings of France
have been crowned. Other architectural curiosities
are located in the city centre such as the
Archbishop‘s Palace „Palais de Tau“ or the Basilica
of Saint Remi. End the visit with a champagne
tasting. Enjoy some free time before having
dinner in the hotel‘s brasserie, which specialises
in fish and seafood but also features seasonal
dishes from the region.
DAY 2 | ON THE TRAIL OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR
This day will be dedicated to a look back at the
First World War, when the region experienced its
darkest moments of the 20th century. You will
discover the city of Verdun which was the biggest
battlefield from February to December
1916 and also one of the deadliest. The city is
overlooked by its Citadel, built in the 17th century
by Vauban, and which with its key defensive
position was able to repel the German soldiers.
You will visit the bowels of this fortification.
After a free lunch in the city of Verdun, you will
go to the Memorial of Verdun. A centre dedicated
to the battle of Verdun. This museum
allows you to remember and relive this tragedy
and to realise the devastating consequences of
the war. To end the day on a happier note,
enjoy a reservation for a Champaign Menu at
the Art Deco restaurant, Brasserie Excelsior in the
centre of Reims and 500m from the hotel.
DAY 3 | A SPARKLING EXCURSION IN THE FOOT-
STEPS OF CHAMPAGNE
Champagne also means the famous sparkling
wine! It‘s time to discover how champagne is
produced and to taste it. Direction Mutigny, a
charming village known for its path that crosses
the vineyards and gives a better understanding
of the history of champagne. At the end of this
walk, which is accessible to all levels, a champa-
gne tasting awaits you. After this excursion, on
request, a rustic buffet in the vineyards can be
organised.
Afterwards you will travel in direction of Eprnay,
the “capital of champagne” situated on the
banks of the Marn river. There you will discover
magnificent palaces of the great Champagne
producers, like Moet et Chandon. Those elegant
mansions of the 19th century form the famous
“Avenue de Champagne”. Enjoy this gateaway
to this charming village before visiting the Pressoria
museum. You will learn more about the different
stages of champagne production and the
different winemaking techniques. At the end a
final champagne tasting awaits you and then
back to the hotel.
DAY 4 | RETURN HOME
It’s time to travel back to Paris, maybe carrying
one or two bottles of Champagne in your luggage.
YOUR ACCOMMODATION
DISCOVER NOUVELLE AQUITAINE WITH US
When you think of Aquitaine, the first thing that comes to mind is
Bordeaux. Dozens of the world‘s most famous wine domains can be
found concentrated along the „Route des Grands Crus“ on the Medoc
peninsula. The city itself, with its magnificent old town stock exchange
square on the banks of the Garonne, offers one of the most innovative
wine museums in the world with the „Cité du Vin“.
In the south, huge pine forests line the beautiful Atlantic coast before
you reach the historic seaside resorts of Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz
on the Spanish border. A diversion to San Sebastian or Bilbao, just a few
kilometres over the border, is also a good option. Enjoy the magnificent
scenery, as this is where the Pyrenees meet the Atlantic Ocean and the
Bay of Biscay.
In the hinterland, a cognac tasting in one of the famous distilleries of
Cognac, a visit to the Dordogne valley with Périgueux and the
best-preserved medieval town in France, Sarlat, are tempting.
Nouvelle-Aquitaine is not only Bordeaux, but much more and we would
be happy to let you discover it.
