> BAM Materieel supplies general plant and material and
ancillary services as well as the accompanying
consultancy for all of the construction projects carried
out by BAM in the Netherlands. The sizeable range of
plant and material available and the extensive package of
services are managed and organised from Lelystad. BAM
Materieel has approximately 300 employees.
Many construction projects (both residential and
non-residential) involve tunnel formwork in which the
concrete for the walls and the floor resting on the walls
are poured in a single operation.
BAM developed a new tunnel formwork method during
the year under review and successfully tested the
method in a residential construction project in Rijen.
This new formwork has a number of distinguishing
features, including the fact that it is lightweight, the
mould is easy to widen and narrow hydraulically and the
assembly is installed using an advanced positioning
system. All in all, this new method improves the working
conditions on the site.
The formwork product group employed a steel movable
project formwork assembly to build the quay wall in the
BAVO Maasvlakte project.
The green-and-orange tower cranes used by BAM
Materieel are characteristic features of many
construction projects, such as the Isala Clinics being built
in Zwolle, for example, where seven tower cranes have
been deployed. Another example is the NATO
headquarters in Brussels where BAM Materieel has
supplied eight tower cranes for the construction of the
new headquarters building.
Wilrijk-based > Interbuild undertakes non-residential
construction projects for both private and public sector
customers. Interbuild’s work as a partner in construction
consists primarily of new build and renovation of offices
and distribution and shopping centres in Brussels and
Flanders. Interbuild also won a number of major
contracts in the luxury and service apartment segments
of the residential sector in 2011.

The company employs more than 250 people and has an
average of fifteen construction projects in progress at
any given time. Many of the projects are high-profile,
such as the new NATO headquarters (a joint venture with
other BAM operating companies) and Résidence Palace
(the principal seat of the European Council), both of
which are in Brussels.
Interbuild delivered various projects in 2011, including
the court building in Hasselt, the new offices and the
warehouse redevelopment for HighCo Shelf Service, the
conversion of the old Belgacom buildings (known as the
‘Impératrice’ complex) into an underground garage,
commercial and office space, and the new North Light
office block (the last three projects all being in Brussels).
Interbuild won various new contracts, including the
Flemish Administrative Centre and the National Archive
in Ghent and Poort van Beveren and Poort van
Dendermonde (both prisons) in the Waasland area of
East Flanders. New projects in Antwerp include Artesis
University of Applied Sciences, renovation of the facade
of the De Mick (Brasschaat) care centre, renovation of the
Desguinlei office buildings for the Vivium insurance
company, and the new Iglo flats for the elderly. The
Hooikaai apartment contract, the Meyboom residential
project, the Pole Star office building, the Gerlache
residential project in Brussels and the Ter Zee residential
care centre project in Wenduine were also among the
contracts won during the year under review.

> BAM Construct UK undertakes construction, property
development, design, services engineering and facilities
management in Britain. The company has approximately
2,400 employees.
