to support such an event as The
Atlantic Maple Leaf 2011 Nova
a worthy cause.”
“I’ve seen first-hand the
hardship families go through
when a loved-one is lost or
returns from battle injured,”
said RAdm Dave Gardam,
Commander Joint Task Force
Atlantic. “As Canadians and
Nova Scotians we need to
recognize that although it is an
honour to serve our Country,
it isn’t always easy and some
soldiers, sailors, airmen,
airwomen and their families
pay very dearly for their
commitment. These funds will
go a long way to helping them
through their diffi cult times.”
The 19 th Hole
FINALLY, we are having some dry warm weather. It has
been a long time coming but I think we are heading for
summer.
The Ladies held their fi rst Early Bird tournament and
there were 13 ladies competing. The winner of the Field
Low Net was Margie Welin and the Field Low Gross winner
was Cyndi Landry. Congratulations ladies! The rest of the
winners were: 1st Division: 1st LN- Sandra Cathcart, 2nd
LN- Sheila Johnson and 3rd LN- Donna Hill. The Second
Division winners were: 1st LN- Sue O’Connor, 2nd LN-
Sharyne Trimm and 3rd LN- Sue Burke. The Next tournament
scheduled for the Ladies is June 19th, The Rose Bowl. Sign
up sheet is in the locker room.
Several teams from Greenwood were in Clare for the Mixed
Tournament and some even came home with prizes. Janice
Spinney and Peter Foy won 2nd Low Net in the 4th Division
and Doug Carpenter and Wendy Richardson won 3rd Low
Gross in the 2nd Division. This year we were able to play all
three days and didn’t get wet. Quite a change from previous
years. Clare is always a fun tournament and the organizing
committee did an awesome job, rain or shine we really enjoy
ourselves. Thanks to Brian and Debbie W. for bringing back the
prizes (they stayed to bring home their 1st LG in the 1st Div.)
On Victoria Day we had a fun time with 17 golfers playing
Stableford, great fun. Before even heading out on the course
we had fun with Glen P, he now owns and is wearing a very
bright yellow jacket quite similar to the one Wendy and
Audrey are wearing (I believe it came off the same rack!),
cut the tag out of it and away he went. I was told that Scott S.
had quite a tee shot on #2, however, it was found on the cart
path between the green on #8 and the tee box on #9! In no
way does that fall into, Hit ‘em Long and STRAIGHT! Ian M.
had a fl at tire on the 17th tee, apparently “Weight” was NOT
a contributing factor. After all was said and done, the winners
for the day were: Greenies: Frank C. had 2 and Scott S. and
Scottie C. claimed the other two. To add more fun to the mix,
teams were drawn AFTER the round was fi nished and there
were two teams tied: Pat Grist, Scott S., Bill M. and Ian M.;
and Steve G., Phil A., Glen P. and Doug C. It certainly was a
lot of fun and thanks to Scottie for organizing it.
Mens Tuesday Night has started and I will have the results of
the fi rst night in the next issue. Ladies Night has started as well.
The kitchen is open and there is a new menu, bring a friend
out for lunch.
~ Thank You ~
We wish to express our thanks and appreciation for
all the support given us in the passing of our mother
and grandmother, Inez Prime. For all the visits, cards,
emails, phone calls, memorial donations and prayers,
Easter Brunch for Deployed Families – What a Time!!
Submitted by: Amy Snow,
On Saturday, April 23 rd
the GMFRC was very
proud to host its 8 th Annual
Easter Brunch for Deployed
Families. Deployed families
Kids and Learning First
Nova Scotia is fortunate to have dedicated teachers and
support staff, involved parents and engaged students who
care about the future.
But we are facing challenges like declining student enrollment
and increasing costs. Protecting kids and learning is our
priority. That is why the province has increased per-student
funding, kept student-to-teacher ratios low and protected
funding for special needs education.
But more needs to be done.
Working together we can protect what matters most, putting
kids and learning first.
I want to hear from you. Go to gov.ns.ca to
share your ideas.
Ramona Jennex,
Education Minister
joined us in celebration of
Easter at the Annapolis Mess
and enjoyed a morning of
delicious food, fun activities,
and great company. Not only
did we have fun making and
decorating our very own
Easter Bunny ears and crafts
we also had a special visit
from the Easter Bunny who
took time from his very busy
Making life better for families
bunny schedule to hang out
with deployed families and
could also be seen posing
for pictures with the kids!
Throughout the morning it
was nice to hear feedback
from our deployed families.
Many families expressed how
great it was to get together
and the children were thrilled
to see the Easter Bunny in
person! It truly was an amazing
time filled with laughs and
greats stories.
A big thank you to our
servers extraordinaire, Colonel
(Col) WF Seymour, Wing
Commander, Lieutenant
Colonel (LCol) Smith McBride,
Wing Administration Offi cer
(WAdminO), and Chief Warrant
Officer (CWO) Gaudreault,
Acting Wing Chief Warrant
Offi cer, who served breakfast
to our deployed families and
gave away their special bunny
ears to the children who gave
them the biggest smiles!
Sudoku Solution page 14
Fun By The Numbers
Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as
a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve
a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fi ll each row,
column and box. Each number can appear only once in
each row, column and box. You can fi gure out the order
in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric
clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers
you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
June is Recreation Month!
“Recreation, for Every Age and at Every Stage”
The Theme:
For the third year, Canadian
Forces Personnel and Family
provides an opportunity to
celebrate these roles and
educate the community about
the importance of participating
in recreation and leisure
activities.
