Aaron Decker, Head Coach
Coach Profiles
Aaron Decker enters his first year as the head men’s and women’s track and field coach
for North Park University. He served as an assistant for the past season.
During the 2007 track and field season, Coach Decker worked directly with the sprinters
and jumpers. This included the establishment of a school record in the pole vault for
women and an addition to the Top 10 list for the men’s pole vault. Coach Decker has
a wealth of knowledge in developing the total athlete and is an avid student of speed
and acceleration development.
Coach Decker began coaching at Illinois State University, where he was responsible
for the complete development of the pole vault squad. There he coached three female
athletes and one male athlete to top six performances in the NCAA Division I, Missouri
Valley Conference. While working as a graduate assistant he was able to gain great
experience working with the sprints and jumps coaches. He was an integral part in the
summer track and field camp as well as a co-founder of the Redbird Vertical Jumps
Camp. Coach Decker hopes to bring camps and clinics to the newly built facilities on
North Park University’s campus.
Coach Decker is USATF Level II certified in the jumps and received his master’s of
science in exercise science from Illinois State University in May 2006 and his bachelor’s degree from Truman State, where he
competed at the Division II level and trained with a Division II All-American decathlete in all event areas. He is also an adjunct
instructor in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics at Northeastern Illinois University.
“North Park University has the potential to be a big impact in the CCIW in the near future. I look forward to working with the
great bunch of athletes to help develop their social and athletic careers. An ‘All Conference Athlete,’ in my opinion, is one who will
achieve academic success while also performing on the track or in the field. I build my philosophy of coaching around this pillar.”
