penalties for rule infractions.

THEY ARE CONCERNED FOR YOUR
SAFETY.
Motocross is a physically demanding sport that requires a combination
of skill, strength, and technique. Here are some techniques that
motocross riders may use to improve their performance on the track:
Body positioning: Riders need to maintain a proper body position while
riding, including a slight forward lean, keeping weight over the front
wheel, and keeping the elbows up to absorb the impact of jumps and
obstacles.
Cornering: Riders need to master the art of cornering, which involves
leaning the bike into the turn, keeping the inside foot peg down, and
using the throttle to power out of the turn.
Jumping: Riders need to master the technique of jumping, which
involves timing the jump, keeping the bike level, and landing smoothly.
Whipping: This technique allows riders to make the bike spin 180
degrees in the air and land facing the opposite direction.
Power sliding: This technique allows riders to maintain speed while
cornering by sliding the rear wheel.
Ruts: Riders need to learn how to ride in ruts, which are deep grooves
in the track created by the tires of previous riders. This technique
involves using the ruts to maintain traction and control while cornering.
Line choice: Riders need to learn how to choose the best line on the
track, which is the path that allows them to maintain the most speed and
avoid obstacles.
Fitness: Motocross is a physically demanding sport that requires a high
level of fitness and endurance. Riders need to maintain a regular
training regimen that includes cardio, strength training, and stretching.

SPEAKING AHEAD OF FOXHILL
125CC CHAMPIONSHIP 2ND PLACE
"I had a really good round at Lyng,
came away with some good results
and valuable championship points.
I’m heading into Foxhill confident
as I really enjoy that track, I have
been racing the eastern centre
championship with some of the
mx1 and mx2 riders which has
made my pace much faster and
have been working hard off the
bike too"
At Lyng, we saw Crendon Fastrack Honda underdog Josh
Gilbert push through for the top spot after a tough first race.
However, his team mate Conrad Mewse sits only seven points
ahead of Gilbert. It will be a tough battle to continue the
Championship as Cab Screens Crecent Yamaha rider, Harri
Kullas only has a seven point lead on Mewse, leaving 14
points in it for the top three.
In the MX2 class the Stebbings Car Superstore powered by
Bikesure 426 Motorsport pro rider Isak Gifting sits 17 points
ahead of ASA Gas Gas rider Bobby Bruce heading into Foxhill.
Gifting was challenged by GP rider Jack Chambers at Lyng,
who put a stop to Giftings winning streak after a controversial
second race. Whilst Isak has a shaky recent history at the
Foxhill track after a tossup with Conrad Mewse in 2022 we are
sure to see the rider on the podium again. With Jack
Chambers out of the picture at Foxhill we are bound to see
some future runners come through to the podium, like the
sorts of Verde Silhol KTM rider Jake Millwards, who currently
sits third in the Championship.
Young gun Billy Askew put on a stunning display of talent,
taking both race wins in the 250cc class at Lyng. Billy saw
second place in the Big Wheel 85cc class at Foxhill last year
and will be more than likely looking to push through to the
top spot at this years race. With a 24 point lead and a winning
streak throughout the season so far, this is looking highly
likely. Challenging rider Mckenzie Marshall, had a slight bump
at Lyng but we are sure to see him back on his A-game at
Foxhill. In the 125cc class rider Jake Walker, who beat Billy in
the Big Wheel 85cc class at Foxhill last year is sure to be a
fierce contender for the podium this year, sitting in third
overall. Ahead of Walker is Wal Beaney who won at Lyng and
will be looking to continue the streak into Foxhill. However,
Championship leader Recce Jones will be looking to extend his
four point lead on Beaney at Foxhill.
Joining us again after a nice break, are the Big Wheel 85cc
riders. Whilst in 2022 the class was dominated by Billy and
Jake who now moved up classes, we see a new front runner
come through the ranks at Oakhanger, Josh Vail took the class
by storm and kicked off his season with a ten point lead
ahead of Charlie Richmond and Drew Stock who sit second
and third respectively. Josh, who rode this track as a Big
Wheel 85cc rider in 2022 and placed third has experience
above the other riders and will likely end on the podium again
this year.
SUNDAY 14TH MAY
LANGRISH MCC
The next round of the Revo
ACU British Motocross
Championship heads to
Foxhill, a well-known track
located in Wiltshire, England
near the town of Swindon. It
is considered one of the best
motocross tracks in the UK
and is certainly a fan
favourite. The track is also
host to several prestigious
events hosted throughout the
years including the VMXDN
which draw in huge crowds
and riders, whilst also being
an ex-gp track in previous
years, this raises the profile of
the track to an international
level. The Foxhill track is
known for its challenging
terrain, steep hills, and
technical sections. The newly
revamped track is
approximately 1.5 miles long
and features a variety of
jumps, berms, and obstacles
that was used for the 2022
VMXdN will also be used fort
the British Championship
round.
This year Foxhill, home to
the Langrish MCC, have
confirmed 'The Bullet'
Jeffrey Herlings will be
riding in the MX1 class.
Many people will favour 102
with the likes of current
Championship leader Harri
Kullas, who won at Foxhill in
2022 and notable names
Conrad Mewse, Josh Gilbert
" Im feeling happy and confident coming
into foxhills, I’ve got 2 GP’s under my
belt since Lyng and I feel like I’m getting
back up to speed with the other racers
around me.
Training schedule has been different
from my normal due to the MXGP races,
but I’m getting on the bike a couple
times this week to keep my in the flow
then I’ll head to foxhills and hopefully I
can gain some good points to keep me in
the fight for championship contention "
What would you say your role in the motorsport
community is?
I feel like I’ve brought mx riders back together, who have
not seen each other for many years, with running my
Motocross & Speedway Memories Reunion mx meetings,
with my partner in it all Kevin Wheeler. It’s been amazing.
Both of our dads were mx dads/mechanics for us, and we
do it in their loving memory, as well as for many other
peoples special loving memories for every group, each
year.
In your opinion, what are some of the biggest
challenges facing the sport of motocross today, and
how do you plan to address them in your role as an
ambassador?
I think some of the biggest challenges are keeping tracks
running of course is one, as there’s been a lot that have
been closed down over the years.
Down to anything from noise complaints, to mx traffic
through towns/villages, it’s really disappointing and been
a lot of great venues lost.
Another thing is, trying to keep the sport trendy, and alive
online for the kids that are coming through to be
interested, or try the sport for instance.
I feel some of the organisations have done well using cool
brands such as Monster and Red Bull is a great thing.
And of course Revo is a great one to have on board for
the British championship.
How do you work with other ambassadors or
representatives of the sport to promote motocross?
To help with other people in the sport, I’ve done
photography at lots of events over the years, for free and
not charged anyone for images for instance, and post it
every where online.
You try to share other people’s media and events all the
time, and I’ve attended a lot of them these last few years,
and done lots of live videos and images, on my social
media platforms and shared them, which is all good for
exposure for the sports.
What initiatives or programs have you been
involved in as ambassador for motocross, and
what impact have they had?
I guess creating my Motocross & Speedway
Memories has affected a lot of race fans, I never
thought could be a thing. I just had a passion for the
sports, and chased the local hero’s to then the
world stars for interviews, which started out as
Q&A’s online, to then Skype recorded videos, to
then live interviews.
To share them with the fans and entertain them. I
didn’t realise it would go all over the world, and
people really enjoy them, and to get really nice
messages off fans, saying it even helped them
through difficult times in the Covid lockdown era.
That’s amazing to know. I had no idea.
Nothing was too planned I just went for it, I had no
contacts at all, and just kept working hard on asking
people, and then things went from there, and got
more and more contacts as I went.
So was super cool. And I couldn’t even explain how
crazy it is to have the contacts do in my phone, it
never gets old for me and a dream. I speak to a lot
of riders personally all the time, I’m always personal
and care about anything I do, so it’s nice. So for
fans, and even some riders told me it’s made then
keen about the sport again, and stuff like that’s it’s
incredible how much it’s effected people. I’m proud
of that and honoured.
What advice would you give to someone who is
interested in becoming involved in the sport of
motocross?
My advice to anyone wants to get involved with mx,
would be it’s all out there on social media, search it
out, get to a local race meeting/practice and check the
sport out live. As there’s nothing like live. Tv is great,
but watching live it a totally different experience, get
the smell, the atmosphere, the noise. And hopefully
people take the sport up, I did for instance after
watching my cousin race mx.
What do you believe is the most important factor
in the growth and success of motocross as a
sport?
I think to engage with the kids, who are the future of
the sport. Like I touched on before, you need to
appeal to these kids, who are on all the gadgets
known to man kind.
Any media of mx is great, lots do it now on social
media and platforms, so this all helps, as videos and
images can all look cool and appeal to youngsters.
And as I touched on earlier too, I think trying to get
trendy brands into mx would be another great way of
getting attention to the sport.
Can you share with us some of the memorable
moments or experiences you've had in motocross?
Memorable moments in the sport, would be creating
my platform and unknowingly bringing riders/fans back
together was great. Then even better creating a mx
reunion was all a follow on from that. A total pipe
dream to a reality was very surreal, and amazing to do,
we are even onto our 3rd Motocross & Speedway
Memories Reunion at the end of this month.
What are your goals for the future of motocross,
and how do you see your role as an ambassador
contributing to those goals?
I engage with the fans of mx & speedway every single
day, and sometimes to my detriment haha I reply to
every single message I get.
It’s just me, and I feel no matter what it’s about, you
try and help them, or talk about whatever the subject
is, I have made a lot of personal relationships with so
many race fans, and haven’t met 90% of them, that
I’ve likely spoken to for years, riders included.
I try to live by my dads quote he always told me
before he died back in 2015, “It’s nice to be important,
but it’s important to be nice” I even quote this about
my dad, at the end of every single interview I’ve done.
I’ve even had a logo made of it by a great lad in Pat
Stott designs. He also created my logo for my
platform too, super cool!
Did you ever ride? If so what are your best
achievements/ favourite memories etc.
Yes I raced mx, I was meant to be a speedway rider
really after my dad David Ashby & my Uncle Martin
Ashby. They both raced for my home town Swindon
Robins. I had a go at 16 and took to it straight away,
and they wanted me to sign a pro contract, but my
mum said over her dead body haha and she was the
secretary to the stadium owner. So that ended that. I
went to mx again at the weekend and won. It’s still a
regret to this day. But my parents decided no at the
time.
We finally won the BSMA finals title in 1998 in the
Expert/Amx class on 125cc, and amazing to have my
name on the trophy and a guess a british title to my
name with some of the greats that are on that trophy
was a dream.
It’s 29/30th April at Whiteway Barton in Devon, and if
anyone wants to ride or come down contact me. We
have a-lot of reminiscing to do, and of course making
cool new memories too.
Meeting my own hero’s and idols as been crazy, even
get help from them with contacts and meeting them,
has been a dream.
Racing from 1989-2000 with my dad as my mechanic
are special memories to savour for sure, even more so I
don’t have him with me. My mum was amazing as well,
she did all the lap scoring jobs, and marshalling over the
years, and washing all the kits haha forever grateful to
my parents for helping race bikes.
