time for its Coronation celebration

SONNING CofE primary school update
A Coronation Service — part of a special day of activities to mark the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla
— gave pupils, governors and staff of Sonning Church of England Primary School an opportunity to come together to
celebrate with hymns, songs, prayers and readings.

May MP, who unveiled a plaque
donated by the Sonning and Sonning
Eye Society to mark the Coronation.

Council who gave medals to every
pupil, staff member and governor of
the school.
PART OF COMMUNITY
It was an event to remind pupils
of the importance of serving others,
helping each other and being part of a
community such as Sonning.
'The connectivity and support offered
by the local community is special, and
we felt fortunate to have such close
ties with other groups around us', said
headteacher, Phil Sherwood.
'To have a former Prime Minister take
time out of her day to visit us and speak
to the children was a treat for us all. Mrs
May’s support, as well as that of Sonning
Parish Council and the Sonning and
Sonning Eye Society, remind us what a
remarkable area this is, and how lucky we
are,' he added.
One of the activities the pupils
were most proud of was being part of
creating a mosaic, designed by Shilpa
Kunder, a teaching assistant at the
school. Each pupil and staff member
placed at least one tile, and this will
act as another lasting memory of this
occasion.
On 7 May a group of pupils took
part in the Coronation party held in
Sonning village — see page 23.
Angels wanted
The school is seeking angel
investors for an exciting building project
to create a Performing Arts Studio.
The aim is to provide experiences in
acting, dance, music, song, art and cultural
appreciation. It will be used by pupils during
the day and at weekends, evenings and
school holidays, and by the communities of
Sonning, Charvil, Sonning Eye, Wargrave,
Woodley and Twyford at other times. If
you can help — practically or financially —

Sherwood, headteacher.
Pupils were very excited as eggs that had been incubating at school, finally hatched in early May.
They have enjoyed learning about the life of a chicken and especially enjoyed holding the chicks! These
experiences are part of the school's vision to build strong foundations for the years ahead and create
lasting memories for the pupils of the school.
