ELLESMERE College is fighting
for a promised rebuild, in the face
of costs more than doubling.
In 2019, the Government announced
$80 million funding
for rebuilding the school and
Ashburton College. About $30
million was for Ellesmere, to
provide two learning hubs (35
classrooms), a new auditorium,
library and administration block.
Board chair Vanessa-Amy
Greenwood said now the Ministry
of Education had “extremely
disappointed” the school community
by only committing to
the first stage of the auditorium
and one learning hub. The further
stages were now “on hold” due to
the ministry having to wait for
additional funding in successive
annual government budgets.
Ministry head of property Sam
Fowler confirmed it would be
seeking the required funding to
“support the full delivery of the
redevelopment.”
Fowler said construction costs
had risen rapidly in recent years,
affecting school development
projects.

College, the development
also has some land and
infrastructure complexities that
need to be managed,” Fowler
said.
“As a result, the forecast cost
to deliver the scope of works has
more than doubled since the
project was budgeted for and
announced.
“The ministry is committed
to this redevelopment and
delivering new, fit-for-purpose
facilities for Ellesmere College.
“The school and the ministry
are working together with the
contractors and designers to
deliver the school’s priorities
through an immediate first stage
and set the platform for the full
redevelopment.”
Greenwood said the school
was working on an 18-month
timeline for the whole project.
But the new staged approach
will push the earliest possible
completion date out to 2028,
depending on all funding being
available and there being no
delays between stages.
“This means that many of our
current students will never get
to utilise our new, purpose-built
learning spaces and will remain
in our outdated and rundown
prefabricated buildings,”
Greenwood said.
“To us, this is completely
unacceptable, particularly as
our community is set to
dramatically expand with
multiple housing developments
coming online.”
In 2019, Prime Minister
Chris Hipkins was Minister
of Education. When the
Government announced
the funding for Ellesmere
and Ashburton colleges, he
acknowledged the reasons
Ellesmere needed to be rebuilt.
“The school buildings were
built in the 1970s and 1980s and
there has been no significant
upgrade since then,” Hipkins
said at the time.
“All but two of the school’s
buildings are temporary
relocatable classrooms and have
experienced significant wear and
tear. That’s not good enough and
we are fixing it.”

Teen targeted
in another
violent attack

A LINCOLN teenager has been
assaulted by two youths for the
second time this month.
The 15-year-old’s mother,
who did not want to be named,
said there was “a lot of violence
happening at the moment
between teenagers” in Lincoln.
On Saturday about 1pm, two
boys, both 15, approached her
son as he waited at the bus stop
opposite the Lincoln Library.
They punched him in the face and
kicked his legs, before running
off. He was left with bruises and
broken glasses with a missing
lens.
Her son knew who the boys
were. Police are investigating and
were set to take a statement on
Monday.
About two weeks ago, the boy
and a friend were followed into
the Liffey Domain. The boy was
pushed to the ground and his
head and body were stomped on
by two boys. A small group of
about five boys and girls filmed
the attack.
The mother said the attack
stemmed from an incident at the
Lincoln Library, in which her son
defended his little sister, telling a
boy who was verbally abusing her
to leave her alone.

Medium-density housing unlikely

“Unlike neighbouring

residential dwellings in Selwyn
are individual, stand-alone
family homes.”
The Selwyn Times asked
people in Rolleston whether
they would live in a multi-storey,
medium-density house. The
responses were mixed and
depended largely on how big
their household was. Those with
families said a medium-density
home would be too small,
while people living either by
themselves or as a couple were
more open to the idea.

A medium-density development
under way appears to be
struggling to sell.

41 homes, of which half
are expected to be multi-storey,
in the Lincoln Grove development
on Vernon Drive.
“We are going to build 10
three-bedroom townhouses with
garages and 12 two-bedroom
townhouses with private carparks,”
Shen said.
Shen was unable to confirm
how many had been sold, but
said it has not been as good
as first hoped.
“The property market is slowing
down and presale is not
as fast as we expected. We are
building the show home, which
is expected to complete by September,”
he said.
Ray White real estate agent
Brendan Shefford said in the past
medium-density houses have
struggled to sell.
“They will do smaller housing
but not two storeys. It’s not costeffective
to be doing two-storey
housing in Rolleston,” Shefford
said.
Bayleys real estate agent Nick

housing will become more
popular in the future, but the
Selwyn market is not ready yet.

you look at the development
companies building the easy
care, low maintenance (mediumdensity)
homes in town, and
I think in time it will become
an option out here,” Booth said.
‘”It will be implemented in
Christchurch city first then
further out in the future once
we have the infrastructure and
population, but I don’t think that
will be particularly soon.”
The lack of interest in
medium-density housing is also
backed up by district council
consent data.
In March there were 48
multi-unit dwellings (two or
more buildings on one consent
application) consented in
Selwyn; however, 42 were for a
holiday home development in
Castle Hill.
Blackburn said homes are
being built on smaller sections
and will be denser, but are
single-storey rather than typical
medium-density homes.

Blackburn said unlike in
Christchurch, developers are less
likely to demolish other houses to
make way for medium-density.
“The average age of a residential
dwelling across Selwyn is nine
years, it is totally uneconomic to
knock down a house that is nineyears-old
to build three more
houses,” Blackburn said.
As a requirement of being a tier
one council, the district council
has to comply with the National
Policy Statement on Urban
Development, which enables
greater height and density,
particularly in areas of high
demand and access.
It must zone some land for
medium-density housing, but
there is no requirement for
medium-density
housing to
be built. The
current three
zones are in
Rolleston,
Lincoln, and
Prebbleton.

Love said the district council is
also not expecting a great take-up
of medium-density housing in the
district, and have taken that into
account when allocating land.
“There is largely sufficient
development capacity at typical
densities in the short and medium
term. This has been provided
through the recent and current
private plan changes.
“The Selwyn residential
capacity and demand model
covers this aspect and mentions
that there is unlikely to be much
medium-density uptake in the
short and medium term,” said

is in regular communication
with various property developers
in the district to get their view
on the current and future
situation.
Last year Lincoln South
developer Carter Group said the
1710-section subdivision would
be restricted to one dwelling per
section. Williams Corporation,
a developer of medium-density
in Christchurch, declined to
comment as it hasn’t explored
doing development in the Selwyn
district; Wolfbrook Property
Group did not respond.

are cheaper compared to
some other houses.”

circumstances. I think they

near centres, with good
access to public transport.”

with kids, especially with
two boys and no backyard
space, they love their

would be very good for a

IS SELWYN being sold short on
public transport?
That was the question Springs
Ward district councillor Grant
Miller asked when the greater
Christchurch mass rapid transit
indicative business case was
presented at last week’s district
council meeting.
The case
outlined
the plan for
more public
transport, likely
to be in the
form of light
rail connecting
Hornby and
Belfast with
interchange
facilities in central Christchurch.
The light rail alone was
estimated to cost $4 billion.
The business case says
Rolleston will be connected via
direct bus routes to the Hornby
station, with park and ride
facilities being investigated.
It does not include a light rail
link in the district.
Said Miller: “Only a fool
would decide to build a short
small piece of the (rail) network
and not look to the future and
where the growth is going to
come.”
The business case comes
on the back of complaints
from some commuters about
stretched public bus services,
particularly between Rolleston
and Christchurch.
“We are not learning the
lesson of history, particularly
from Auckland,” Miller said.
“We have a brand new
town developing in Rolleston,
which is not having the right
infrastructure put in at the
construction phase to develop
in a logically-sequenced way to
provide public transport.”

data shows bus routes 85 (direct
to city) and 820 (Burnham to
Lincoln) experienced the highest
patronage ever recorded in a first
quarter.
The No 5 bus (New Brighton
to Rolleston, via the city,
Riccarton and Hornby) also saw
passenger numbers increase.
The overcrowded buses
have frustrated some
commuters.
To relieve some of the pressure
a dedicated school bus service is
being trialled this term, taking
Rolleston-based students to

Police speak
to person
linked to dog
walker attack

A PERSON has been spoken
to in relation to an incident
where a dog walker says they
were abused and run down by a
motorist.
The incident unfolded on
April 14 when the dog walker
said they were verbally abused
by the driver of a dark grey
sedan on Springs Rd in Lincoln.
The walker says the
driver then threatened to kill
them and “chased” them into
Southfield Drive and nearby
Blunden Rd.
A police spokesperson
confirmed officers have been
“speaking to a person of interest
in relation to the incident”.
Police were unable to confirm
whether the person was the
driver of the car.
“No charges have been laid at
this time and no one has been
arrested at this time. As this is
an ongoing investigation, we are
unable to comment further,” the
spokesperson said.
The victim described the
incident in a Facebook post.

Mum stays positive in cancer fight

ERIN TRETHEWEY expected
the results of her latest routine
mammogram would be the same
as others, and everything would
be fine.
But two weeks later, the
48-year-old Rolleston mum of
three received a phone call from
the clinic.
“They said ‘We want you to
come back in, we would like to
do some further investigation’.”
“I knew immediately,” she said.
“I took my husband with me,
which I haven’t ever done in the
past, but I just knew.”
Trethewey had another
mammogram and a biopsy, after
which it was confirmed she had
a tumour in her left breast. It
was negative for the receptors of
oestrogen and progesterone. She
required more tests to confirm
whether it was also negative for
the epidermal growth factor
HER2.
About 15 per cent of breast
cancers are triple-negative,
meaning they are negative for
the two hormones and HER2
status. Triple negative breast
cancer is in general more
aggressive, with a faster growth
rate, higher risk of metastasis
and higher recurrence risk than
other breast cancers.
Trethewey said waiting for the
HER2 result was painstaking,
because if it came back negative,
it would mean her cancer was
triple negative.
“It was horrible, I was like
‘Please not triple negative, please
not triple negative.’ And it came
back absolutely triple negative, I
was so gutted.”
Trethewey had been having
annual routine mammograms
for some years prior to her
diagnosis, after her mother had
battled and survived a different
type of breast cancer.
She said she had felt “a little
fluey” on occasion prior to
the latest mammogram. This
had been the only potential
symptom, in retrospect, which
may have hinted at the presence
of an aggressive tumour in her
body. She had not felt any breast
lumps.
“I went into that mammogram
with no fear, with no
anticipation that it would be any
different to the previous 10 I had,
so I was completely blindsided
by it.”
She had even put off the
routine appointment by one
month.
“I’m a busy working mum, I
rescheduled it,” she said.
Since her diagnosis, which was
just last month, her life has been

Alongside chemo, she is
having immunotherapy, with the
unfunded cancer fighting “magic
bullet,” Keytruda.
The cost of the immunotherapy
is $97,000. The first
$27,000 she and her family have
been able to raise, while they are
fundraising for the remaining
$70,000 on Givealittle. So far
they have received more than
$17,500.
After six months of treatment,
she will have a mastectomy, followed
by more immunotherapy,
and possibly radiotherapy and
more chemotherapy.
“The research around triple
negative is terrifying, if you go
and look at it, it’s like ‘Oh my
god, it’s going to kill me’,” Trethewey
said.
However, so far the
chemotherapy and
immunotherapy are working.
Trethewey said the tumour
upon detection by the
mammogram had been 28mm.
“I couldn’t feel it at
mammogram time, but by time I
saw the oncologist I could, it was
growing quickly.”
Her oncologist updated her
last week with good news the
tumour was now reducing from
the “palpable mass” it had been,
to a “cottage cheese feeling
texture.”
In addition, she was heartened
every day by the many
supporting her, from a local
barber who shaved her head
prior to hair loss for free, and her
younger sisters who started the
Givealittle campaign.
“I have a very dangerous
cancer, and it’s a very aggressive
cancer, but I’m going to whip it
out of the park,” she said.

Im-peck-able effort by thieving kea
Swan wounded at lakes

process of a kea snapped high
on Avalanche Peak at Arthur’s
Pass, shortly before it stole the
photographer’s muesli bar.

group of friends when he took

and stealing our lunch, he saw us
coming, there’s no doubt about
that,” Hutchings said.
After taking the photo,
Hutchings had unwrapped a
muesli bar, taken one bite out
of it, and placed it on top of his
backpack nearby so he could
take more photos of the scenery.
When his back was turned to
the kea, the cheeky mountain
parrot swooped in past his feet,
grabbing the muesli bar in its
talons mid-flight.
While the incident itself
happened two years ago,
Hutchings has this month
shared the photo and story to the
Facebook page New Zealand is
Awesome, where it received more
than 1100 reactions. He was
back at Avalanche Peak recently,
taking more photos of keas – and
this time keeping his snacks out
of sight.
ON A SADDER note, another
beautiful bird got attention on
social media in the district last
week, when it was photographed
with an apparent injury.
One of several white swans
often seen gracing Mataku Lakes
at the reserve on Te Raki Drive,
Lincoln, was bleeding from a
wound near its right wing.
Prebbleton resident Katrina
Pinnington was walking in
the reserve with a friend last
week when she came across the
swan. She posted a photo to the
Lincoln community page, where
people commented it looked like
it had been shot or attacked by
a dog.
Another community group
member posted an updated
photo the following day, showing
what was apparently the same
bird standing at the lakeside.
While the blood had washed
off, it was “constantly nipping” at
the area of the wound, seeming
to be in pain.
SPCA inspectorate team leader
Sam Cairns said the organisation
received a report of an injured
swan at the area on Tuesday.
A field officer visited the swan
on that day and the following
day but was unable to retrieve it.
“On observation, it appeared
the swan’s injury was superficial
and the swan was adequately
mobile. Without closer
examination it is not possible
to determine the cause of the
injury,” Cairns said.

HIT POWER POLES
A rubbish truck hit a power
pole on Thursday in Springston,
with the lines landing on the
cab of the truck. Lines provider
Orion said 551 customers from
Burnham, Ellesmere, Irwell,
Lincoln, Lincoln University,
Rolleston and Springston
had their power cut, with all
power being restored just after
midnight. A car also hit a power
pole on Shands Rd in Prebbleton
on Friday morning; the driver
sustained minor injuries.

pole and lines were down.
Orion said 276 customers
from Halswell, Hornby,
Prebbleton and Templeton lost
power, with it being restored
about midday.

RESERVE BID
Castle Hill residents have made
a new bid to have a dark sky
reserve established in the area.
The idea came up in multiple
submissions on the draft Annual
Plan, with the suggestion
it could become a tourist
attraction. District council
staff will return to councillors
on May 31 for deliberations
day on this submission and all
others made as part of the plan
process. The Annual Plan is to
be adopted on June 28.
FIREFIGHTERS TACKLE
SKY TOWER
Five Dunsandel volunteer
firefighters took part in the Sky
Tower Challenge on Saturday.
Matt McIntyre, doing the
Firefighter of Steel, climbed 60
floors in 34kg of gear in 25min
23sec, placing 71st. The other
four climbed 51 floors with 25kg
of gear. Nick Boon placed 606th,
Ryan Scott 94th, Luke Bain
347th and Matt Boon 277th.
As a group they raised $8504,
with the total amount raised

Volunteer kit revealed
FIFA HAS UNVEILED the official
uniform that will be worn by almost
5000 volunteers at the FIFA Women’s
World Cup – and Rolleston’s Wilfred Yeo
Boon Hiong can’t wait to get his hands on
the kit.
He will be part of a
300-strong team of
volunteers from around
the globe supporting the
six matches in Dunedin,
with the first match
on July 21 between
Switzerland and the
Philippines.

World Cup to start. It is
the biggest event ever to
come to New Zealand,
so why would you not want to part of
that? I think it is almost getting as big as
the men’s World Cup,” said Yeo Boon
Hiong.
He will take a few weeks leave from
his job as a financial advisor to take on
the role as transport co-ordinator for the
World Cup at Dunedin Airport.

in his native Malaysia and follows the
English Premier League and Champions
League religiously, and has been a longtime
Arsenal supporter.

sports ground.

years 4-8 planted 400 eco-sourced
seedlings at Kakaha Park in Prebbleton.
Kids Discovery Plant-out co-ordinator
Lou Drage said the programme was
engaging students with nature and
empowering them to make a positive
difference to their local reserves.
“Not only do students have the
opportunity to restore habitat, but they
are also assisted by enthusiastic experts to
investigate biodiversity around the site,”
Drage said.
The children discussed their hope the
plants will grow into a thriving habitat for
native birds, invertebrates and lizards.

This year 16 schools are participating

Giving for Gisborne
glow fundraiser
There was a glow of generosity coming from visitors to the Hororātā Glow Festival
last week.
Bidders at a silent auction donated over $7000 to help Gisborne Tairawhiti with its
recovery from Cyclone Gabrielle. Items were put up for auction by 17 businesses
and the Council. Popular items included Mayor Sam Broughton mowing lawns and
a holiday package with accommodation and mountain biking or trekking at Quartz
Hill.
In total the fundraiser raised $7275 for the Gisborne Mayoral Relief Fund. The
Selwyn community has adopted Gisborne as a community through the Local
Government New Zealand ‘Adopt a Community’ programme. The Giving for
Gisborne fundraising campaign has now raised over $12,000, with donors giving
directly to the Gisborne Mayoral Relief Fund to support immediate and long-term
needs identified by the community.
The ongoing generosity of people in Selwyn is really uplifting, Mayor Sam says.
“We’re very grateful to the Hororātā Glow Festival for letting us run the auction and
for all the generous businesses who donated prises to auction, it was an amazing
evening. I’ve spoken with Mayor Rehette Stoltz and she has offered her sincere
thanks to everyone who has got behind Gisborne and she said how encouraging
the support is for everyone effected by the cyclone.”
Tairawhiti Gisborne experienced heavy damage from the cyclone, with a long
journey ahead to restore roads, bridges, power, and water infrastructure and to help
displaced residents back into their homes.
Other fundraisers have included a donation drive at Selwyn Sounds, a fire brigade
truck pull, and Selwyn schools pairing up with their counterparts in Gisborne.
Kakaha tree planting
Prebbleton School children left another lasting and growing legacy for their township
last week.
The pupils took part in a planting day, planting over 400 new native trees in Kakaha
Park on Wednesday.
The pupils joined Council staff in planting the trees as part of the latest stage of
development at the new park.
A single English oak was also planted with a commemorative plaque to mark the
coronation of King Charles III. The planting was delayed from its planned date in the
week of the coronation due to weather.
Over 40,000 native trees and plants have already been planted at the 22-hectare park,
which features bike trails, sports grounds, playground and dog park. A come and play
open day on 11 June will mark the official opening of the park.
More off-road bike trails, a water way and large areas of native planting will be
developed over the next five years as the park continues to grow.
New hub to help Selwyn youth thrive
A new youth hub is coming for Selwyn, with a range of services and supports
to help young people in the district thrive.
The hub, based at the Rolleston Community Centre, will provide rangatahi
youth aged 12 to 24 years old, a space to receive targeted programmes and
non-judgmental confidential youth services from qualified agencies.
Te Tahi Youth and Family Planning will deliver health services, counselling and
career advice and and Alternative Education will have education services for
youth excluded from school.
A range of providers will also run activities, events and courses including
parenting and youth courses, learner driver courses, drug and alcohol
counselling sessions, arts classes, te reo Māori classes and waiata sessions.
The hub idea and services confirmed were based on needs identified by
Selwyn young people and the principals at the four Selwyn high schools.
“With one of the youngest populations in New Zealand supporting our youth
is a key part of serving our community. Talking to them, the needs were clear,
there were fantastic services available and we had the space so it was a
perfect opportunity to bring it together,” Council Group Manager Community
and Facilities Denise Kidd says.
Te Tahi Youth which has expanded its
successful Christchurch services to
Selwyn this year through providing a
health nurse at Rolleston College and
a youth worker who will both join the
hub. Founder Dame Sue Bagshaw
says it follows a similar model to the
hub it runs in Christchurch and is a
good fit for young people.
“The nurse is busy, young people are
finding us and it works well. When
you look at the barriers to care for
young people first is cost, second is
not know where to go and third is
services not being accessible. If we
can put as many services in there as
possible, it will help make it a place
where young people can find health
care, but also youth development
activities, and a place where they can
learn to relate, make connections and
have caring in their lives.”

Two Chain Road Limited lodged a private plan change request with the Council to rezone rural land
along Two Chain Road, Rolleston to Business 2A Zone, to enable an industrial zone. The Council’s
decision to approve Private Plan Change 80 (PC80), was publicly notified on 22 March 2023. No appeals
were received by the Environment Court. Private Plan Change 80 will become operative on 1 June 2023.

Help your community in an emergency
Have you got what it takes to help your community in an emergency?
Selwyn Emergency Management is looking for passionate Selwyn people to join their Community
Response Teams (CRT) in the Brookside/Irwell, Greenpark, Killinchy, Norwood, Weedons,
Broadfield, Coalgate, Motukarara, Springston and Windwhistle areas to help their local community
during an emergency.
The role of a CRT is to check on the most vulnerable people, gather information about what has
happened/is happening during an emergency, and open a drop-in centre if required. Volunteers are
a friendly face to the public, treating people with
compassion and respect in emergency situations.
Lakeside CRT team leader Raewyn McCloy says
the role is very fulfilling and while it is a very
responsible role, it can be very rewarding and
training exercises can be a lot of fun.
“You can be as involved as you want to be, but
it’s all about community. We’re there to check on
everyone, make sure they’re okay, pass on any
needs to the Emergency Management team at
council. As CRT volunteers we have the latest info
to relay to our residents. From personal experience
of the Canterbury earthquakes communication is
key. When we had no communications and had no
idea what was happening and where, where to turn
for help, in some ways that was the scariest part.
“It’s good to be able to help people and our people
are phenomenal. During Covid, it was a privilege
to be the contact person for our residents to obtain
RAT tests, masks, drop off shopping and more.
We love being part of Civil Defence. You really get
to know your people and you’re looking after one
another.”

Both are in fifth place in their
respective pools and need to win
their two remaining round-robin
games, rely on bonus points, and
have other matches go their way
to make the semi-finals.
Darfield lost to third-placed
Saracens, 25-24, on Saturday but
are just a point off fourth-placed
Ashley in pool A. West Melton
beat Hurunui 19-17 and are now
a point behind Cheviot in pool B.
West Melton have lost three
matches this season after slow
starts. It looked like a repeat
against Hurunui when they
trailed 11-0 at halftime.
But West Melton roared back,
dominating the second half with
three tries, two of which were
converted.
Co-coach Michael James called
the win a “gutsy effort” following
their scoreless first 40min.
“We were penalised a lot due to
Hurunui putting us under a lot
of pressure,” he said.
The match was marred when
West Melton lock Heneli Moala
broke his leg 15min from fulltime.
He couldn’t be moved from
the field until an ambulance
arrived and the game was
switched to the No 2 ground so it
could continue.
“All three of our losses (Celtic,
Ohoka and Southbridge), we let
them get away in the first half
but fought back and had the
opportunity to win in each of
them,” he said.
“It’s just that inconsistency
that’s hurt us.”
West Melton are also looking
ahead to the Coleman Shield.
“We’re really looking at
Ellesmere points and obviously
the Waihora game in two weeks
will be key. We really need to
get as many points as we can to
make top four.”

Subdivision refers to the process of

PRIVATE PLAN CHANGE REQUEST 80 BECOMES OPERATIVE
Two Chain Road Limited lodged a private plan change request with the Council. The request
seeks a change to the Operative Selwyn District Plan pursuant to Clause 20 of Schedule
1 of the Resource Management Act 1991.
The proponent sought to rezone approximately 98 hectares of current rural land in Rolleston
to Business 2A Zone. This would enable an industrial zone.
The Council’s decision to approve Private Plan Change 80 (PC80), was publicly notified on
22 March 2023. No appeals were received by the Environment Court.
Private Plan Change 80 will become operative on 1 June 2023. This notice is made in
accordance with Clause 20 of Schedule 1 of the Resource Management Act 1991.

property In Selwyn may be a solution.

Management says interest remains
strong in the bustling Selwyn district;
the demand for housing has never been
higher, and market rent prices have
increased significantly in the last five
years. Recent data shows the average
market rent for a three-bedroom home
in Selwyn has increased to $570–$580
per week, up from a few years ago, when
the median rent was around $400 per
week. She suggests nationwide that many
tenants struggle to find rental properties
within their budget. Canterbury is one of
the more affordable regions to live in, and
Selwyn continues to be popular.
Richard Tait from Harcourts Four
Seasons advises prices have increased due
to more competition, with the median
rental close to $600 for a 3–4 bedroom
property and up to $650 weekly for a 4–5
bedroom house. Another drawcard is
being able to rent a new, fully insulated
property with more area than the city.
Selwyn’s nearness to the mountains and
outdoors is also enticing.
Cara Callister from Red Chili Property
Management confirms current demand
outweighs stock in the Selwyn area,
and the average rent is $530 weekly. She
advised that recently people moved to
the Selwyn area from flooded areas in the
North Island but also for work purposes.
Selwyn’s proximity to Christchurch
makes it an ideal location for those who
want to live outside the city but still have
easy access to its excellent amenities,
recreational facilities and employment.
