COLLEGE OF SOCIAL SCIENCE

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to give special thanks to Dr. Richard Feiock, my major professor. Without his guidance and help, I could not have finished my dissertation. He has been not just an academic advisor, but also a friend and counselor for me to advance myself. I also appreciate my committee members. Dr. deHaven-Smith has always encouraged me to study. Dr. Chapin pushed me to understand more on my subject area. Dr. Yang’s final comments made my dissertation more consistent. I would also acknowledge the supports of the following friends: Hoseok Jang and his wife, Hyunsang Ha and his wife, In-ho Kang, Jeongho Lee, Jongsun Park and his wife, Jungah Bae, Myungjun Jang, Sangchul Park, Sejin Lee, Seonil Cho, and Yongwoon Kim and his wife. Most of all, I am very grateful to my family’s long patient support. I give great respects and special thanks to my mother and father, and my mother and father in-law. I have to express my special thanks to my daughter (Yejin), who has always made me happy and forget my stress from the study. Finally, I should give deep gratefulness to my wife (Jiyon), who has sacrificed herself for me to focus on my study. Her sacrifice and encouragement help me to put a period on the long journey for the degree. iv
