Simply stated, <strong>for</strong> me a world without music is not complete. I have always believed this.<br />
Coupled with my p<strong>as</strong>sion <strong>for</strong> architecture and technology, I have dedicated over <strong>for</strong>ty years to<br />
creating environments where music can be produced or listened to with integrity, accuracy and<br />
emotion.<br />
How would I have known that a chance encounter in the late 1960’s would spawn a small<br />
nightclub design, only to host Jimi Hendrix one evening and thus allow me that introduction to<br />
his universe of music and art. It would lead to an opportunity to create Electric Lady Studios,<br />
what is still today one of the world’s most famous recording studios. <strong>Music</strong> and the allure of its<br />
magic w<strong>as</strong> at the root of this studio’s dream.<br />
I have rarely seen a moment when music does not inspire emotion in some <strong>for</strong>m or f<strong>as</strong>hion.<br />
<strong>Music</strong> h<strong>as</strong> to power to help us heal, move us to tears, make us laugh, help us to <strong>for</strong>give, pave the<br />
way <strong>for</strong> dreams, and most of all provide us with moments of great ple<strong>as</strong>ure. Life without music<br />
makes less sense.<br />
Architecture, <strong>as</strong> we know, is that wonderful moment when sculpture gets an opportunity to<br />
become united with real world ergonomics and purpose. <strong>Music</strong> can become the paint, the wall<br />
covering, and the furniture <strong>for</strong> these spaces. In my lifetime I have seen the world of recording<br />
studios and music production change from one controlled by a small group of music industry<br />
businessman to a community in which literally everyone and anyone can have a recording studio<br />
and broadc<strong>as</strong>t their music. Never have we seen such a demonstration of democracy in its purist<br />
<strong>for</strong>m. <strong>Music</strong> h<strong>as</strong> been the catalyst and the inspiration. We should all cherish this movement.<br />
We need everyone to encourage the proactive ef<strong>for</strong>ts and initiatives of musicians and the music<br />
creation community. I support the ef<strong>for</strong>ts of both the <strong>Music</strong> <strong>as</strong> a <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Resource</strong> Initiative and<br />
the <strong>International</strong> <strong>Council</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Caring</strong> Communities (ICCC), accredited to the UN’s Economic and<br />
Social <strong>Council</strong>. I am honored to be part of these ef<strong>for</strong>ts.<br />
