annual meeTing leadersHiP diane l. damiano, PHd, PT First Vice President Diane Damiano, PhD PT is a Research Associate Professor of Neurology at Washington University in St Louis and Director of a 3-D motion laboratory specializing in the study of cerebral palsy . Diane has a BA in Biology, MS in Physical Therapy from Duke University and practiced as a pediatric physical therapist for over 0 years before receiving her PhD from the University of Virginia in 993 . She currently is st Vice President of the AACPDM and has served on several committees including the Research & Awards Committee and the Scientific Program Committee (5 times), both of which she has chaired, and has been an active member of the Treatment Outcomes Committee . She has also been an invited speaker at the European Academy of Childhood Disability Annual Meeting on several occasions, and her research in cerebral palsy has been published in Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology among other leading journals is the field . deboraH J. gaebler-sPira, md Scientific Program Chair Deborah Gaebler-Spira completed a pediatric residency at the University of Chicago and then pursued rehabilitation and physical medicine at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago to combine pediatrics and rehabilitation . She has been affiliated with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hospital and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago for 20 years . Her research interests have been involved with the management of spasticity . She has collaborated with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago bioengineers on measurement of Hypertonia which is supported by NIDRR . Hank g. CHambers, md Second Vice President Hank Chambers, MD is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Rady Children’s Hospital and Health Center in San Diego . He also serves as a clinical associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of California at San Diego . After medical school at Tulane University School of Medicine, he completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX . He finished a pediatric orthopedic fellowship in San Diego under David Sutherland, Scott Mubarak and Dennis Wenger in 990 . Dr . Chambers is currently the immediate past Chief of Staff at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and also serves as the Director of the Motion Analysis Laboratory and the Sports Medicine Program . He is the David Sutherland Director of Cerebral Palsy Research at Rady Children’s Hospital . James mC CarTHy, md Instructional Course Chair Jim McCarthy, MD is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon, and the Assistant Chief of staff at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, and an Associate Professor at Temple University School of Medicine . He trained as an engineer at the University of Wisconsin before traveling to the Chapel Hill North Carolina for his medical degree . He completed his orthopaedic training at the Cleveland Clinic and pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at the Children’s Hospital in Denver, with Dr . Robert Eilert and Frank Chang . In Philadelphia he is the medical director of the motion analysis laboratory, director of the lower extremity/limb deformity program, and Physician Director-Resident/Fellow training programs . His primary research focus is improving function in children with cerebral palsy, and treatment of hip and limb deformities in children . 3
