The year’s average daily attendance was 850 boys and girls. In recent months, this number has increased to nearly 1,000. Academics – Math and reading instruction, homework assistance, tutoring, enrichment activities and computer-based learning with a literacy focus. Science and Technology – State-of-the-art technology instruction, industry exposure, and innovative project creation. Social Education – Leadership, tolerance, dedication, and other life skills key in social and career success. Visual and Performing Arts – Experience in the arts and exposure to the art world, inspiring creativity in an array of media. Athletics – Exercise, organized sports, games, leagues and guidance that sharpen the body and mind. Teens – Places of their own, and teen-relevant activities that promote growth, achievement and a sense of belonging. Extended hours and teen programs. 2007 Leading Citizens Awards Over 500 friends descended on the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Palo Alto for the 2007 Leading Citizens Awards. This year’s event honored James and Rebecca Morgan & Family, Oracle Corporation, Stanford University and Daniela Gasparini. Duncan and Shirley Matteson were appointed Honorary Members by club youth. A video spotlighted the club’s impact on three young members who have overcome challenges. Emcees were 2006 Leading Volunteer Constance Heldman, club alum Lizeth Chavez and member Manuel Contreras. 6
