Page 6 YOU GAVE CHRISTMAS AWAY! BUMC took the Advent challenge to “Give Christmas away” seriously! Your generous spirit led to gifts listed below. Along with a summary of your gifts are examples of how we can keep this generous spirit alive throughout the new year. Look for new, additional ways to “Share God’s Love with Coffey County and the World” in 2012! • More than 50 cards were mailed to shut-in’s to remind them their church family is thinking of them through the Christmas season. Please check out the narthex bulletin board for some thank-you notes and Christmas letters. • The list of shut-in’s are on the following page. Why not drop them a card once in a while throughout 2012? Or how about stopping by to visit them? • 225 pairs of socks and 137 pairs of underwear were collected for God’s Storehouse clients with “Sock and Undy Sundy.” • God’s Storehouse depends on our support and contributions for keeping their shelves stocked throughout the year. Typically they receive much more during the holidays than other times of year. Consider donating regularly. They are also in need of volunteers. Do you have some time to give? God’s Storehouse phone number is 364-1459. Their hours are 9 am to noon weekdays. • 8 college students received fun and useful care packages during their semester final exam week. • In this “Year of the Child” consider encouraging students with cards or emails throughout the year. Addresses are available through the church office. Or you could volunteer to help with BUMC children and youth activities. • Homemade treats and fruit were donated, organized, and delivered to 21 households. • From the looks of those Christmas plates, BUMC obviously has some great bakers! Consider sharing goodies throughout the year with those on our homebound list, or with someone in the church family who is going through a hard time. How about sharing with someone you appreciate “just because”? • 17 households were adopted through ECKAN’s Christmas program. • This is a RECORD UMBER for BUMC Christmas adoptions. You made a difference in many people’s Christmas experience. Consider helping Eastern Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation throughout the year. ECKA’s phone number is 364-8223. Call to find out how you can help people with needs that surpass Christmas gifts. • 24 adults, Christ Inc. youth, and the BIG Club members all participated in The Journey Advent study by Adam Hamilton throughout the season. • Jenn Lowrey, Christian Ed. Director, is planning more studies for a variety of groups within our church family. If you have specific ideas or feel called to lead a group, please contact her. Watch for opportunities to join small groups and grow in 2012. • Coffey County Resource Council received $1,384.82 from the Christmas Eve offering, to help local people in need. • CCRC provides emergency help for those in need throughout the year. They are currently looking for a new director. Consider helping financially or with your time. Call 364-2263.
