Established in 1917 and registered as an employers’ organisation under the Workplace Relations Act 1996, LPA’s activities centre around three core areas: • Workplace Relations • Policy & Strategy • Membership Services & Events Our members work in the live performance, cinema, and exhibition and events industries. LPA Vision and Strategy for the Australian live entertainment industry The LPA Vision runs deeper than audience and box office numbers. It is about bringing out the best in the Australian people and maximising the potential of Australia. Driving the LPA Vision is the unique power of the live performance experience – the stimulation, sense of belonging, emotional engagement and meaning live performance brings to Australian audiences. Also driving the LPA Vision is a clear understanding that the Australian Live Performance Industry helps ensure our nation boasts a sustainable international competitive advantage by providing an attractive living environment and developing critical skills. In measurable terms, LPA is driving the development of an industry plan aimed at achieving an annual box office of $1 billion at current prices. This will be built by growing the audience base to 18,000,000 over the next 5 to 10 years. LPA’s commitment: • picks up on the desire of Australians to attend live performance more frequently; • is demand driven; • requires the re-invigoration of the commercial sector; • requires innovation in government policy making; and • requires new partnerships to be built between government, the industry and all supporters and consumers of live performance. 2
