We are very proud to have had the opportunity to work with you while you transformed Chicago into a world-class city. Chicago has thrived under your leadership and passion. Although once considered an old industrial area, Chicago now proudly stands among the world’s top cities. Your city beautification programs, like the creation of Millennium Park, have awed and inspired us. We are so fortunate to walk outside to Michigan Avenue and be greeted by flowers and trees on every city block, thanks to you. We fervently support the words of President Barack Obama when he said that you will leave “a legacy of progress that will be appreciated for generations to come.” Thank you for your dedication to our beautiful city during the past 21 years. We truly wish you the best during your retirement. You will definitely be missed.

Education The Chamber’s Board of Directors authorized an Education Business Seminar Committee to design and implement seminars for the Chamber’s membership. There will be three seminars a year – February, June and September. The purpose of the Educational Business Seminars is to offer the members of our Chamber topics of high-value to critical issues and strategies for implementation. The seminars will foster interaction with presenters in an educational setting for the experienced professional in all sizes and forms of organizations. The seminars will be delivered by business experts and designed for one-hour presentations, including a question and answer period. Alderman Reilly and Police Commander of the 18th District, Kenneth Angarone, were the presenters on a topic of Safety for the Chamber’s first Education Seminar on October 19th. The Education Business Seminar Committee is chaired by the Chamber’s Vice President, Margaret Metcalf, Emeritus, Director of Education, Harrison Middleton university. Members are encouraged to contact Margaret at metcalfassoc@yahoo.com to participate as a committee member. The committee will select the topic and presenter for each of the three seminars. The committee requests that all members provide suggestions for seminar topics. Email topic suggestions to Margaret. EDUCATiON Once topics have been determined, members interested in being a presenter will be able to request a presenter information packet from Margaret. There will also be information on the Chamber’s website about the topics and a call for presenters. Members should also consider serving as a sponsor for the seminars. At each seminar, sponsors will be recognized and be given the opportunity to give a brief synopsis of their business and provide attendees with brochures and/or gifts with company logo, etc. For example, at our first Education Seminar held on October 19th, co-sponsors First American Bank provided log pens, Harrison Middleton university provided logo notepads, Susan Komen for the Cure provided table flowers and Loyola university donated the room. Members interested in sponsoring or co-sponsoring one of the seminars can contact the Chamber’s Executive Director, Mable Buckner-Payton, at mable@streetervillechamber.org. 2010-2011 STREETERVILLE COMMUNITY GUIDE 7
