9.07.2010 - Village of Deerfield

while it would be very

while it would be very nice to give the public the convenience of angle parking, 87 spaces would not be sufficient. two different parking surveys show the following: 1) survey by Village Intern 1012004 - 04/2006: 70 checks at various times and days of the week (only ONE of the 70 checks was done on the normally busier weekend) showed an average of 70 spaces filled, with a.maximum fill of 112 spaces. . 2) the Gwalt Hamilton report to Kent Street of 5/27/09 showed a current WEEKDAY demand of 104 spaces (includes Lot E). it also shows a Sunday occupancy of 231 vehicles, but that figure covers all 10 lots in the quadrant. i believe-that based on the above surveys, we could live with 120 spaces; thus being able to combine the best features of both plans. . i propose that: 1) the proposed additional turnaround in Larry's south parking area be retained in the village plan, losing 10 spaces. this would reduce potential traffic congestion at the east end, where trucks might be unloading. 2) the plantings on the east half of the Deerfield Rd. area, shown in Larry's plan, but eliminated in the village plan, should be put back in. this would complete the hiding of the parking lot, but not reduce parking space this plan leaves us a "safety" of 10 parking spaces that could be sacrificed if necessary
