Father’s Name Address Well, summer is over and it is time, once again, to think about a new academic year. The summer send-off parties have all been held and the incoming first-year students have moved into their dorms. We held the Northern California party again this summer and had quite a few more attendees than last year (nearly a 50 percent increase from 2001). From our discussion with Jack Miller, it seems the parties he attended were all well received and well attended. A big thank you goes out to all those who hosted them this summer. A number of parents have told us how useful they think these parties are. It gives them a heads-up about what to expect at Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR), they have a chance to ask questions and the students get a chance to meet other first-years from their area—then, hopefully, they will see at least a few familiar faces during those first days on campus. Parents Association Free Book Drawing Join us! Home Phone ( ) DU alumnus? o Yes o No Year Employer Title Business Address Business Phone ( ) The names of 380 parents who joined the Parents Association during SOAR were entered in a drawing for complimentary Enterprise car rentals, Four Points Sheraton Barcelo lodging, a Coos Bay Bistro gift certificate and a DU tailgate blanket. Their names have also been added to the list of current association members entered in the drawing held at the beginning of each quarter for free textbooks. The books are compliments of the DU Bookstore. You should all mark your calendars for Homecoming/ Parents Weekend. It will be held October 25–27. Some of the highlights will be Parent Sessions, the Feast With Faculty and a hockey game on Friday; the Chancellor’s Breakfast (make reservations for this, as it sometimes sells out), a pre-game disco party and a hockey game on Saturday; and the Homecoming brunch on Sunday. And last, but not least, if you haven’t joined the Parents Association, please do. If you have been members in the past, please renew your membership. We provide a number of services for students and parents (i.e., the summer send-off parties) and serve as a liaison between parents and DU.
