….... a word from our President
Thank you Charlie and Kim for leading the club in our participation in the Clovis Rodeo Parade. This
event occurred after my last message. Our cars looked great with rodeo theme stick ons from Diane T.
One lead car carried Miss City of Fresno, Bella Rodriquez, and the other lead car carried Miss City of
Fresno Outstanding Teen, Saiya Sohal. Soon they will be competing for Miss California and Miss
California's Outstanding Teen. The parade is always well attended. We receive a lot of exposure during
this event.
My two day run to Murphys was on May 7 and 8. We had 11 cars total on this run. Charlie and Kim
were staying in nearby Angels Camp and met us when we arrived. Sorry that some people who signed
up had to cancel. From the comments I received, everyone enjoyed the trip. Once you exit 99 it is a
nice foothill drive with little traffic. Even Patrick commented on the nice Corvette roads. Our first stop
upon arrival was Murphys Highway 4 Diner for lunch. I had to change the lunch stop at the last minute
and Murphys Diner was very accommodating. We stayed in the Historic Murphys Hotel on Main
Street. All of the shops, wine tasting and restaurants are within walking distance. I made this a “Free
Style” afternoon with everyone free to enjoy Murphys and the area as they wish. Some went to nearby
Ironstone Winery for tasting and relaxation. For dinner some of us had a lighter meal at Firewood,
while others went to Alchemy Cafe as it was highly recommended by the locals. Hospitality was in my
room after dinner. Stephanie made her famous Butter Pecan cake. While Charlotte brought a great after
dinner liqueur (creamy tequila), for our enjoyment. We had near perfect weather both days. Be sure to
check out the pictures of the trip in this newsletter.
Just got back from the run to Madera Speedway. This was the annual Vukovich Classic. Thanks to
Larry and Janet for hosting this run. Members from COF also joined us at the track. We had two parade
laps on the track before the races. Unfortunately, Janet's parade lap was cut short due to drive train
issues with her Midget. This was part of the MAVTV televised race series. If you have not been to the
Madera track before, you are missing seeing and hearing a lot of great racing. Let's just say, “You need
ear plugs if you are near the track.”
Next up is our annual picnic. We have 72 members signed up. The Board has a great time planned.
Thanks again for the Kroekers allowing the use of their property for our enjoyment.
See you at the picnic!
Your President,
Jeff
MEMBERSHIP REPORT by JULIE SONS
Spring is sprung and we have been blessed with beautiful
weather recently. However, I think we might be in for some
warmer days in the very near future so stay cool as you can.
Also, remember to honor your daddy on Father’s Day June 17 th
as he is who made you who you are. On the day of our next
general meeting, June 15 th, it is National Prune Day. Go figure
another nonsense Holiday. A prune is a dried plum and this fruit first originated in
China. Just a note: If you recall this useless bit of trivia next month you may win a prize.
No, not a prune salad either!
We had a light turnout at the May meeting with 52 members in attendance and no
guests.
Our total membership is still 95.
Any and all guests are invited to join us at any of our club sanctioned activities or events.
Just be sure to sign up on the clipboards and add your cell number to sheet.
850-HP 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1 Unofficially
Drops Thick Camouflage After First Sighting!
Home > News > Renderings 26 May 2023, 07:46 UTC • By: Aurel Niculescu
Among the many good folks over at MidEngineCorvetteForum.com, there are also
people who can easily transfix their imagination into reality - albeit only digitally. But
maybe that's enough for us, for the time being, to quench our thirst for C8 Chevy
Corvette ZR1 novelties.
Photo: Peter Chilelli / MidEngineCorvetteForum.com
So, most automotive enthusiasts know very well that Chevrolet's Corvette – aka
'America's sports car' was born exactly 70 years ago, in 1953, as a two-door, twoseater
premium sports car with or without a fixed roof but always with a front-engine
and rear-wheel drive setup. Well, just like with many other things in life, one should
never say never (again), so the eighth iteration of the iconic nameplate retconned
everything into making the 'Vette a proper (European) mid-engine sports car killer.
Long-time dreams were fulfilled, and voila, the C8 Chevy Stingray became the very
first mid-engine Corvette sports car produced by GM's subsidiary. With a 6.2-liter LT2
cross-plane V8 under the hood, the C8 Corvette Stingray became as agile as its Old
Continent peers and showed a lot more prowess than its up-to 495-hp rating. But, of
course, that was not enough for diehard fans. No worries, because 2023 is a
benchmark year for Chevy Corvette as people can drop in front of the driveway not
just 70th Anniversary Editions of the C8 Stingray but also of the all-new 2023 Corvette
Z06.
The latter was not the only supercar-killing (super) hero, despite its world-record FPC
credentials of 670 horsepower from a 5.5-liter flat-plane DOHC V8 engine with no
forced induction. Instead, Chevy also wiped out the RWD-only trait by introducing the
655-hp E-Ray model, which is not only the first hybrid Corvette but also the inaugural
eAWD model version. So, what could be next after Stingray, the FPC Z06, and the
electrified E-Ray? Well, there is no need to ponder the answer because the rumor mill
went berserk just a few days ago after the first sightings of the fully camouflaged 2025
Corvette ZR1 prototypes.
Even better, the Chevy engineers were not just driving the C8 Chevy Corvette ZR1
prototypes around Detroit – they also had some nice company with them. More
precisely, several Corvette Z06s were also part of the spied convoy, and a Porsche
911 GT2 RS supercar accompanied all of them! According to rumors, the 2025 ZR1
could flaunt an LT7 V8, which is an evolution of the rev-happy LT6 DOHC 5.5-liter
found in the Z06 but also rocking a couple of beastly turbos for some 850 hp to come
out to play. Well, this is all fine and dandy, but how about the looks of the 2025 ZR1?
No worries, as Peter Chilelli of Fast Pixels was again on point in presenting his vision.
Dressed in orange and black, the "attempt to see what's under the camouflage of the
ZR1" resulted in a C8 that is closer than ever to the track-only C8.R. The pixel master
even shared his thoughts on some of the highlights on the forum and pointed out the
pass-through frunk, larger and elongated splitter, the new air intake divider, the fresh
wheels, or the bespoke badging. In addition, other members of the online
community also shared previous attempts at imagining the ZR1, and of course, we
could not help but put them in the gallery for a quick comparison with the current
Corvette Z06 model.
Well it is now officially the “Dog Days of Summer”. Our activities
schedule looks sparse going into the first two months of summer but we
still have time to plan some indoor activities. The movie releases for
this summer show promise with “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning”
and “Oppenheimer” coming out in July. Perhaps a car show or two if the
weather is nice and we get there early. If you have an idea just let me
know and we will see if we can make it work.
