Type <strong>of</strong> Position: National/<strong>International</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Staff<br />

Location: CATIE Headquarters, Turrialba, Cartago, Costa Rica<br />

POSITION OBJECTIVE<br />

Manage and coord<strong>in</strong>ate <strong>the</strong> Master’s <strong>in</strong> <strong>International</strong> Agribus<strong>in</strong>ess Management program.<br />

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<br />

• Coord<strong>in</strong>ate all MIAM activities related to promotion,<br />

recruitment, and admission <strong>of</strong> students<br />

• Coord<strong>in</strong>ate all MIAM activities related to teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and advis<strong>in</strong>g (this Master’s program is delivered <strong>in</strong><br />

English)<br />

• Provide f<strong>in</strong>ancial management to <strong>the</strong> MIAM<br />

program<br />

• Develop strong relationships with INCAE,<br />

agribus<strong>in</strong>esses, and o<strong>the</strong>r partners<br />

• Representation on CATIE’s Academic Master’s<br />

Committee<br />

• Lead <strong>the</strong> launch<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> a new jo<strong>in</strong>t master’s degree<br />

<strong>in</strong> Susta<strong>in</strong>able Rural Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Development<br />

(SRBD) with New Mexico State University (NMSU),<br />

also delivered <strong>in</strong> English<br />

• Liaison with <strong>the</strong> academic coord<strong>in</strong>ators <strong>of</strong> MIAM<br />

(serv<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>the</strong> Jo<strong>in</strong>t Master’s Committee at INCAE)<br />

and <strong>the</strong> SRBD Master´s at NMSU<br />

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<br />

• Play a lead role <strong>in</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g and advis<strong>in</strong>g related<br />

to MIAM and SRBD<br />

• Carry out research and development activities<br />

related to <strong>the</strong> topics covered by MIAM and<br />

SRBD, <strong>in</strong> close collaboration with <strong>the</strong><br />

Competitiveness and Value Cha<strong>in</strong>s program and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r programs at CATIE<br />

• Write grants to support research and<br />

development activities related to MIAM<br />

• Write proposals for scholarship fund<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

MIAM program expansion and improvement<br />

• Carry out o<strong>the</strong>r forms <strong>of</strong> fundrais<strong>in</strong>g to support<br />

<strong>the</strong> MIAM program<br />

• Carry out tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g activities, consultancies, and<br />

backstopp<strong>in</strong>g activities related to <strong>the</strong> MIAM<br />

program.


TECHNICAL SKILLS:<br />

• Ph.D. <strong>in</strong> Economics (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g agricultural<br />

and forest economics) or related fields<br />

• Graduate level <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and research experience<br />

• Sound management, coord<strong>in</strong>ation, and<br />

communication experiences <strong>in</strong> graduate<br />

education programs<br />

• Track record <strong>in</strong> fundrais<strong>in</strong>g for research,<br />

educational and development activities<br />

• Strong record <strong>in</strong> realiz<strong>in</strong>g scientific and<br />

technical publications<br />

• High pr<strong>of</strong>iciency <strong>in</strong> English and Spanish<br />

(both verbal and writ<strong>in</strong>g)<br />

• Experience <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g successfully <strong>in</strong>to<br />

teams<br />

• Will<strong>in</strong>gness to travel <strong>in</strong>side and outside <strong>of</strong><br />

Lat<strong>in</strong> America<br />
