The summer awaits us! Warm weather, the smell of grass
being cut and the flowers in bloom, blue skies, no winter
coats, longer days, lots of sunshine, more wildlife out and
about, and most important to me… more excuses to have
ice cream!!
I want to start off with a friendly reminder about our
Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is scheduled for
Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the Evergreen Seniors
Community Centre auditorium. Doors open at 1:00 pm
followed by the meeting at 1:30 pm. We would love to see
you!! One of my favourite parts of the AGM is hearing
about the Year in Review and the Path Forward. When you
hear, upon reflection, the many things that we have
collectively done as an association/organization, it becomes
clear how important the GWSA is to us and to the
communities we reach and serve.
It’s time again, in June, to celebrate Seniors Month in
Ontario! We get the opportunity to recognize the
contributions made in communities across the province.
Thank you to each and every one of you that contribute to
making the world a better place!
A reminder that we don’t close in the summer!! For
example, the Travel Committee has some awesome
adventures coming up! Check out the “Grand River
Cruise” coming up in July! I read that you start your day
with the fabulous “Blazing Fiddles” show in the
auditorium and will also embark on a 2-1/2 hour cruise
with a delicious, hot home style meal served to your private
tables. There is also “A Day in The Country” planned. I
read that you start your day at Whistling Garden in
Wilsonville. After lunch, you will visit Bonnieheath Estate
Winery and Lavender Farm. You get to experience the
gardens, the gift shop and the option of tasting their wine
and cider products. I look forward to hearing feedback
from these adventures from our Board Director of the
Travel Committee, Yvonne Thomas.
As the Sentinel enjoys a well-deserved summer break from being printed, your Board
Director of Technology, Charlie Bishop, continues doing an excellent job of keeping our
website accurate and up-to-date. Please check out the amazing array of activities offered. In
fact, I just checked it and saw that Dances at the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre are
scheduled over the summer for June 24, July 29 and August 19!!
As I close this month’s message, I would like to thank the Sentinel Team for their help and
support this past year as I took over responsibility for submitting the Monthly Message
From The Board. They have been gracious in giving me suggestions, inserting pictures and
ensuring I don’t miss deadline dates. Thank you so much!
On behalf of your GWSA Board, we hope that all of you have a safe, healthy and productive
summer. Further, that you are active, involved, making friends and aging with dignity.
CELEBRATE SUMMER!
We have several special celebrations during the next few
months. First we have:
Father’s Day, June 18
The idea of a special day to honour fathers and celebrate
fatherhood was introduced from the United States. A
woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired by the
American Mother’s Day celebrations and planned a day to
honour fathers early in the 20th century. The first Father’s
Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington, on June 19,
1910. Father’s Day has become increasingly popular
throughout North America and other parts of the world over
the years.
Canada Day, July 1
The national day of Canada, a federal statutory holiday
celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of
the British North America Act, 1867, which united three
colonies (the United Province of Canada, New Brunswick
and Nova Scotia) into a single country called Canada within
the British Empire. Originally called Dominion Day, the
holiday was renamed in 1982, the year the Canada Act was
passed. Canada Day observances take place throughout
Canada as well as among Canadians internationally.
In Guelph, celebrations are held at Riverside Park with
activities for the whole family, food, music, entertainment
and fireworks.
John Galt Day (Civic Holiday), August 7
In October 2006, Guelph City Council enacted a bylaw
creating John Galt Day, becoming the 7th municipality in
Ontario since 1969 (when the Civic Holiday was created) to
give a name to the civic holiday.
The impetus to name the civic holiday after our founding
father, John Galt, came from citizens Peter Anderson and
Gil Stelter, longtime advocates for recognizing Galt’s
contribution to the thriving City of Guelph. Anderson was
involved in the commissioning of the John Galt statue in
front of old City Hall, and Stelter is a renowned scholar in
Canadian urban history with an extensive knowledge of
Galt’s legacy.
John Galt was a prominent Scottish novelist who founded
Guelph in 1827. As the superintendent of The Canada
Company, a large land company in London, England, he
conceived the idea of building a town to stimulate and direct
the agricultural settlement of the area. Galt planned the
community with its distinctive radial design, quite different
from the gridiron plan of most cities, making Guelph a
unique and special place.
He planned a radial design, with terminating vistas that
led to the Church of Our Lady, St. George’s Square and
Market Square. He carefully planned and executed a land
settlement process that was not based solely on profit — he
insisted on the inclusion of public works to attract
settlement (roads, a school, a market). He dreamt of a centre
of agriculture, culture and economic prosperity.
VOLUNTEERING AT THE EVERGREEN
What does a retiree do after 50 years as an elementary school teacher? A real
people person and accustomed to working with students, teachers and parents, Joan
was looking for a productive way to spend her free time. She wanted to put her
social skills to good use. So, when she moved to the area near the Evergreen Centre
in 2011 and attended their Open House, she took out a membership and started her
journey as a volunteer.
Joan first started as a volunteer in the Book Nook one afternoon a week. She then
started at the Information Desk volunteering alongside Registration Desk
volunteers providing information regarding services and activities offered by the
City of Guelph and the GWSA. Wanting to add even more volunteer hours to her
schedule, Joan filled in for other volunteers who couldn’t make their shifts. Now
she was volunteering an average of three shifts per week and loving what she was
doing. Joan had found her niche.
Taking a hiatus during COVID, she returned to volunteering in 2022 and embarked
on a brand new endeavour. The Book Nook was transitioning to a computerized
library system and Joan spent many hours inputting information to get the system up and running. In December,
the Welcoming and Information Desk was designed and located in the main lobby. Volunteers are the first point
of contact offering a warm greeting, information sharing and conducting tours for new and potential members.
As many members are aware, Joan now volunteers at the Evergreen, Monday to Friday, 9 am-3 pm, splitting her
time between the Library and the Information Desk.
Members often provide feedback to Joan that she’s doing such a great job with the Information Desk and that
makes her feel extremely worthwhile. They also comment that “it’s nice to see a smiling face and be greeted” as
soon as they enter the front door. As Joan puts it, having the presence of the Information Desk “can change
people’s lives, help them make the decision to become a member, make friends, take part in activities, and have
fun.” “That results in less depression and makes them feel a sense of belonging.”
The GSWA and the City of Guelph wish to thank Joan and the team of volunteers at the Information Desk for
their service in helping others improve their lives through community engagement and personal social contact.
NOTICE FROM BOARD OF
mission is to enable older adults to be active, get involved,
make new friends and age with dignity. In addition to
supporting increased access for seniors to City facilities and programming, the GWSA
DON HILLMAN
September 14, 1933 - April 19, 2023
Evergreen’s sexy Santa had a new job! Don
Hillman joined the Board of Directors and
was assigned as Sentinel Liaison. As Sentinel
Administrator, already co-ordinating
activities and troubleshooting for both the
newsletter and job printing, reporting to the
Board was the next step.
Since 2009, Don worked tirelessly to make
the Sentinel financially self-sufficient, a job
that’s logical subsequent to his career in
management analysis. Don spent a lifetime
studying - first manual systems, and then
computer systems for various companies and
was application support manager for a credit
card system his company ran for a major
bank.
He was also in the RCEME (Royal
Canadian Electrical Mechanical
Engineers) reserve for 33 years and
retired as Service Battalion
Commander - a Lieutenant Colonel.
Model railroading played a large
part in Don’s life, as did travel with
his wife, Eleanor. But Don’s most
important achievement in recent
years was as Santa Claus to the
GWSA at the Evergreen, and it was
his excuse for not cutting his beard!
Don was a great help with training
the ‘current’ Sentinel team in the
process of printing the monthly Sentinel
(September thru to June) and doing other
printing for the many different activities
throughout the Centre. We did printing for the
AGM (Annual General Meeting), posters,
manuals, pamphlets and flyers, to name a few
of the print jobs done here in the Sentinel
office. We were sad that Don decided to
retire in 2016 but he was still available by
phone and email if we ran into any problems.
It was hard for Don when his love, Eleanor,
passed away, but now the two are reunited
and will carry on as Santa and Mrs. Claus for
family and friends and the new friends they
will meet up yonder. Many happy Ho Ho’s to
you both, from all of us here in the GWSA at
the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre,
especially from the Sentinel Team! You have
truly been missed!
GWSA Group & Activity Reports
ALL Activity Groups require that you MUST have an up-to-date GWSA Membership to participate.
Art in the Hall
All of the art groups and artisans will
have an opportunity to show off their
wares and offer items for sale if they
wish. A portion of the cost will go towards
the GWSA, and staff at the cash
will be familiar with how to process
these payments and ensure artists receive
their funds, again, if they wish to
sell their creations.
A contract will be sent out to all
groups to review; it outlines how the
shows will run. I intend to change the
art monthly and to be present the second
Monday of each month to put up a
new show. Some shows will run longer
and we may have special presentations.
I plan on going through the list of
groups alphabetically as presented in
the Sentinel. Please start to think about
the piece you would like to hang, present
and showcase.
Further information will be forwarded
to all groups.
Badminton
The Badminton Club held its annual
AGM March 23 and, unfortunately, we
were unable to find suitable volunteers
to fill either the President or Vice President’s
positions. Our Club will therefore
operate with 3 principal Directors
(Activities, Communication and Secretary)
and a temporary Director at Large
who will assist as needed.
With our new season beginning April
1st, it didn’t take long to reach our
membership cap of 105. So, we will
once again restart our waiting list. We
hope to explore ways to decrease or
eliminate the waiting list this year.
Community Outreach Badminton
Coaching also wrapped up its first
complete season since the COVID factor
with 4 of our Coaches assisting in 2
Guelph schools.
Our first 4-part Coaching Clinic began
May 4 and is full already.
Planning is also underway for our
Spring Hike with a proposed Hilton
Falls route being considered.
Our Tuesday evening Badminton has
been temporarily disrupted but a backup
plan is in place. For further information,
call Jeff 519-993-1362.
After a busy year, including regular
playtimes, tournaments, clinics, and
The Sentinel - June/July/August 2023 — Vol. 47, No. 10
social activities, the program year is
drawing to a close. Our year is ending
with some specific skill-based micro
clinics open to all members who want
to improve their skills. The clinics are
popular and we are very fortunate to
have several skilled in-house members
who volunteer to share their expertise
with everyone.
Book Club 1
Our group meets in the Board Room on
the last Friday of each month from
1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. For June, our
selection is “Lost Hills” by Lee Goldberg.
Our July selection is “The Suspect
” by Fiona Barton, and in August
we will be reading “Inside the
O’Briens” by Lisa Genova. Monthly
fee is $3.00.
At present, we have a waiting list.
Bunka
Bunka embroidery is created by using a
unique combination of punch needle
and special silk-like rayon thread.
When completed, many pictures resemble
delicately shaded paintings. In fact,
the needle is held and operates in much
the same manner as an artist’s brush or
pencil. We do not teach classes or have
Evergreen Canoe Club
What better time to shake off those
winter blues than to canoe down one of
The Grand River Conservation Authority
river systems in Guelph’s very own
backyard.
Whether you are an experienced canoeist
or someone new to the sport, the
club training program can help you
either hone existing skills or teach you
the many techniques of river canoe
navigation.
Be aware though that membership is
limited and a waitlist exists. So, if you
meet the physical requirements and are
comfortable on the water, put your
name on the wait list.
All new members are required to
complete a two evening in-classroom
training program and an on-the-water
evaluation.
Our canoe outings are every Thursday
and Friday from May to the end of
September, weather permitting.
Chess
Do you enjoy the game of chess? Come
out and make friends! Our club is open
to players of all levels. We are primarily
amateur players simply out for the
joy of casual chess, although with
(Continued on page 13)
(Continued from page 12)
enough interest, we could organize
small tournaments. We meet on the
second and fourth Friday of each
month in the Evergreen Board Room
from 10 a.m. to noon and we ask for $2
per person each time for the GWSA.
And don’t worry if you don’t have a
chess set - we have three sets as well as
a digital clock for those interested in a
time control!
Computer Mentoring
There are two mentors available every
Monday from 1-3 p.m. to answer your
questions. We can help with Windows
PCs and Android smartphones and tablets.
And now we are able to assist iPad
and iPhone users!
If you are using a laptop computer,
please bring it with you. The fee is $3
for members of the GWSA and $5 for
non-members. Please register at the
front desk for each class before joining
us in the Computer Room.
Craft Group
The ladies of the Craft Club are very
busy making beautiful articles for our
store. We continue to make hats, mitts
and scarves to donate to the needy. We
have had a few of the GWSA members
also donating these items so we can
reach as many as possible. We need
wool donations of all types. Come see
our NEW Treasure Chest, finally rebuilt.
Guelph Wood Carving Club
est. Circa 1986
A well-established wood carving club
of mostly seniors (both men and women)
has operated in the Guelph area for
decades.
We do carving in the round, like cartoon
characters, birds and wildlife,
spoons, bowls, etc.
Other carving techniques include relief
carving, marquetry, and pyrography.
Training is available.
Meets Monday evening 6:00 pm-9:00
pm in Evergreen Room 2.
Cribbage
Come on out on a Tuesday afternoon
for a friendly game of Cribbage in
Room 3 of the Evergreen Centre. The
room is open at 12:30 pm and we start
playing at 1:00 pm. Everyone is welcome,
and we play 8 games, with prizes
at the end of the afternoon. If you are
not sure how to play, we have instructors
to help.
Line Dancing
Evergreen Auditorium
Phyllis (519-836-9415)
Donna (519-831-0943)
Line dancing is exercise not only for
the body, but the mind as well. It’s an
excuse to get out, meet new friends,
enjoy good music, and no partner is
required. If you have never line danced
before or need a refresher, the Introduction
to Line Dancing is where to
start. Here you will learn the basic
steps and easier dances to slower music.
The Line Dance Step Tutorial is an
opportunity to learn and practise steps
not taught in the Introduction to Line
Dancing class and will help prepare
you for the Beyond the Basics classes
which are the next step up from the
Introduction to Line Dancing. The Intermediate
class is for experienced line
dancers looking for a challenge.
The first 3 visits are free. After that,
in addition to providing us proof of a
GWSA membership, it’s $2.00 each
time you come.
Mah Jongg
Mah Jongg has started up again in
Room 4 on Mondays from 2:30-4:30
p.m. except the last Monday of the
month when it will be in the Dining
Room. It is a game played with tiles,
similar to Dominoes. Instruction is
available for those who don’t know
how to play.
Peer Learning
Peer Learning is for seniors who like to
have a good discussion with a small,
friendly group. This year, two very successful
topics have been World Leaders
Who Made Their Mark in the Fall
term and Russia and Eastern Europe
in the Winter term. It’s a great way to
meet new people and have fun while
learning. Check your Sentinel in September
for new topics and times.
Into Focus Photography
We are a friendly group of amateur
photographers with equipment ranging
from mobile phones and point-andshoot
cameras to fancy DSLR models.
13
We share a common interest in photography
as a hobby and we learn from
each other. New members are always
welcome. Our regular meetings are on
the last Monday of every month in
Room 4.
If you are interested in joining, contact
Stu McCannell
(smccannell@rogers.com).
Pickleball
Pickleball is a sport in which four players
use solid paddles made of wood or
composite materials to hit a perforated
polymer ball over a net. The sport
shares features of other racquet sports:
the dimensions and layout of a badminton
court and a net and rules similar to
tennis, with a few modifications.
This sport is for people of all
ages who are looking for some fun,
laughter, socialization and exercise. It’s
easy to learn, but can be challenging
for those with a competitive nature. All
levels of skill invited. Pickleball equipment
is provided.
Shuffleboard
Come on out and join our group. Enjoy
some gentle exercise, friendship and
fun. Membership is available to all paid
-up GWSA members for a $10 fee every
six months. Register the first time
you play. Beginners are welcome and
instruction is available. The group
plays Tuesdays and Wednesdays from
1 to 3 p.m.
Silver Strummers
The ukulele orchestra is an unqualified
success story! There are now 30 individuals
who have joined the Silver
Strummers. We welcome ALL skill
levels, beginner through advanced. We
will provide you with all the information
you will need to get started. If
you would like to try the universally
accessible and friendly instrument of
the ukulele, please contact Eva Quan
519-820-1032.
Silvertones
The Silvertones members practise
weekly in Room 3 on Fridays from 2 to
3 p.m. We do have a few openings so
please contact Doreen Muir @ 519-831
-8323 if you would like to join our
choir or would like more information.
Rug Hooking
(Continued from page 13)
since February 2022. Traditional rug
hooking is both art and a craft. Many
beautiful and unique items are made by
pulling loops of fabric or yarn through
a stiff, woven base such as burlap or
linen. It is enjoyable, fun and a very
social hobby. Beginners are welcome
and we will help you get started. The
Rug Hooking Group meets on Tuesday
afternoon, 12-4, in Room 2.
Skiing
For the 2023 ski season, it costs $10.00
plus HST to join the Ski Club. You
register and pay for the Downhill Ski
Club at the front desk of the Evergreen
Centre. It helps to own a 5-7 Pass purchased
from Blue Mountain well before
the start of the ski season. Every Monday,
we carpool by meeting at the lower
Evergreen Parking Lot by the Enabling
Garden at 8:00 am, drive to Blue
Mountain, and return to Guelph by 6:00
pm. Contact Bob Shearer 519-831-
Evergreen Snooker Club
The Evergreen Snooker Club is composed
of a group of active, friendly
players with skill levels covering the
full spectrum from learner/beginner to
accomplished player. If you are interested
in learning the game, or have
played in the past and want to get back
into it, please drop by the Snooker
Room. You will be assured a warm
welcome and a place to try your hand at
one of our three tables. The Snooker
Room is open weekdays between 9:00
am and 4:00 pm and any other time the
Evergreen Centre may be open.
The primary focus of the club is to
have fun, build friendships and socialize.
Your snooker skill level is irrelevant,
so don’t feel intimidated if you
are a beginner. Prospective members
may visit the club room up to three
times without charge to help with their
decision on whether to join. While
most of the current members are men,
there is a small group of women who
play regularly (typically on Tuesday
mornings), so ladies, don’t be shy, give
it a try.
Membership is available to all paidup
members of the GWSA on payment
of the prescribed annual snooker activity
fee. The current fee of $79.10 (plus
tax) buys you access to the Snooker
Texas Hold ’Em
Why not come out and have fun with
us? We are averaging about 16 players
a week. We are situated in the Dining
Room. We charge $2 per week and
pretty well all of that goes back to the
GWSA. We play Tuesdays & Fridays
from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Each player starts off with $500 in
real casino chips, and, as we do not
play for money, we work on a point
system. The one with the most points
each week is the winner. We play until
there is only one player left or 8:30 pm
comes, whichever is first.
We will gladly teach anyone who is
interested in playing. Just follow the
laughter to find us. We welcome everyone
who wants to play and enjoys company.
We have quite a few ladies playing
at present and would always welcome
more. We do not want to become
a men’s club! Remember, you have to
be a member of the GWSA to play.
Do you like to walk during the spring,
summer and fall? Do you like to have
company when you walk?
great way to exercise with lots of fresh
air, enjoy nature and beautiful scenery
and make new friends while discovering
the trails in the area.
You can register for the Walking
Club’s 2023 walking season online
Walks are at your own pace and you
must arrange your own transportation
this group or would like any additional
information, please contact:
Watercolour Painters
The Evergreen Watercolour Painters
provides an opportunity for watercolour
painters to practise their hobby along
with others sharing the same interest,
while encouraging one another and receiving
information, ideas and inspiration.
While we do not offer classes or
lessons, we welcome accomplished
watercolour painters. There is a small
annual membership fee and membership
with the GWSA is required. We
meet in Room 2 from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
on the 1st and 5th Wednesday of the
month, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the
third Wednesday.
Writers Club
If you enjoy the power of the pen,
come join the Writers Club. We can
toss around ideas and topics to get the
creative juices flowing. Then let’s share
the resulting written shape for constructive
comments, while enjoying the
company of others. Please feel welcome
to join the journey. We will meet
the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the
month in the Board Room, from 1-3
p.m. There is a weekly fee of $2 for the
GWSA. Contact Susan Jackson 519-
Writing Your Life Story
This new activity group has gotten off
to a good start with 12+ members. All
are conscientiously following the suggestions
of the facilitator, as steps towards
producing a document that can
be shared with children, grandchildren,
and other interested people. Each week,
there is an assignment to create a story
relating to your life experience. The
story is then shared with others in the
group. We have already learned that no
one’s life is “boring”! Space is limited
due to room size, but we can accept a
few more members. We meet on Thursdays
at 1:30 pm in the Board Room. If
you are interested, come and check us
out! Contact Jennifer Blackie at 519-
824-7204 or jblackie@bell.net for more
information.

PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB ON THE GO!
April 13, 2023, thirteen members of the GWSA
Photography Club, also known as the Into Focus
Photography Club, went on a field trip to the Joseph
Schneider Haus Historical Site in Kitchener.
A beautiful day to be out and about enjoying a chance
to take photos with fellow enthusiasts, touring the
buildings and grounds. Cameras of all kinds clicking
away capturing the moments. A few of us met up after
for coffee and some conversation.
Love photography? You should come out and join us!
We meet the last Monday of each month at 2:30 pm in Room
4 of the Evergreen Centre.
To see some of the photos from that day or browse through
our various photo themes, field trips, challenges, etc., click
ART IN THE HALL
Art in the Hall has another amazing display of artwork
for your viewing pleasure! The majority of the pieces are
for sale and can be easily purchased for yourself or as a
gift. You may see a few pieces from the previous show
and that is because some of our lovely artists belong to
both the West End Art Group and The West Hills Art
Group. This particular group (West Hills) meets
Thursdays in the afternoon at the West End Community
Centre. Please also look at our display windows that
showcase smaller artwork and hand-made cards, each has
an individual touch!
Since the Sentinel will not publish for a couple of
months, please have a look at the display windows after
mid-May to see the wonderful creations of the Wood
Carving Group.
GWSA Members and Activity Group Leaders
RE: Pro-rated Activity Fees
At the Finance Committee meeting of April 18, 2023, the decision was made to discontinue
pro-rated activity fees. The GWSA fiscal year is April 1 – March 31 of the following year.
All Activity fees are due beginning April 1st. All activity programs run a full fiscal year,
therefore, fees must be paid as such. This action will provide an avenue for fiscal financial
planning.
The Board supported and approved the recommendation from the Finance Committee on
April 19th.
Effective May 1, 2023, there will be no pro-rated fees. This means that the cost associated
with each activity will reman the same regardless of when the member joins.
Together with the City, we offer a subsidy program to help adults and seniors on a limited
income stay active with the Fee Assistance in Recreation (FAIR) program. These financial
aid programs can help subsidize the cost for recreation programs, swim passes, or other
memberships. People who qualify can also receive a discount on registration fees. Please
contact the office and we’ll help start the process.
OsteoFit
Part of living well with osteoporosis and or osteoarthritis,
involves healthy eating and physical activity. Physical
activity plays an essential role in the treatment of
osteoporosis by ‘stimulating’ or applying a load on our
bones to maintain their structure and strength. When
treating Osteoarthritis, it is important to ensure proper
alignment of joints as well. Exercise and physical activity
play a vital role and contribute to individuals’ overall
health and well-being. Four types of exercise are
necessary in the management of osteoporosis and
osteoarthritis: strength, posture and core stability, balance
and weight bearing. Join us in this class to get moving,
improve your strength, balance, and posture, and in turn,
reduce your risk of falling.
What Is It Like To Grow Old
by Karen Morrissey
What is it like to grow old? I was asked.
Well, I really haven’t a clue.
Although I have grown, I’ve not gotten old,
Yet I hear that most people do.
I still like to go to the park every day.
And it’s fun to play games with my friends.
When I go home, I rest in my chair,
Soak my feet as the day nears an end.
But I haven’t grown old, I still go for a walk
In the neighbourhood most every day.
Then when I get home, I rest in my chair,
Have a nap. What more can I say?
I haven’t grown old though I’ve slowed down
a bit.
I still like the same things as before.
But now when I do all those things that I like,
My body’s a little more sore.
I haven’t grown old, there’s still music I like.
I still listen with the headphones on.
Though the more that I listen, I do realize
That a lot of those bands now have gone.
Those musicians grew old, as they sang all their
songs.
I watched them grow old every day.
But I haven’t grown old, for their songs are for
youth.
I like them, so I’m not turning grey.
My knees hurt a little, my feet throb a lot.
My back aches, and my shoulder is sore.
My legs aren’t as quick as they once used to be,
And I can’t stay up late anymore.
But I’m not growing old, I am only retired.
I look at this watch made of gold.
And stare out of the window, waiting to find
Just what it’s like to grow old.
OUR EVERGREEN LIBRARY
We are open
Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
June, July and August give us an excellent opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A great way to
relax is to read a book outdoors. The library has a good range of popular content for you to
borrow. It also has a bookcase and cart with books for sale at a very reasonable cost. Whether
you borrow or buy, you can surely find a book or two for summer reading.
The content of the library largely reflects books and DVDs that are popular with our patrons.
We encourage donations. Many of the donated items are added directly to our collection.
Others are offered for sale, and the proceeds are used to purchase new books and supplies. In
short, we depend on donations to refresh our collection with content from our patrons.
The library will have slightly reduced hours of operation during the summer. For June, July
and August, the library will be open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. We look forward to
assisting you. Please come down to the end of the hall to visit the library, and select a book or
two to read on some fine summer days.
Our library volunteers hope that you enjoy a great summer!
