Church & Giving Up!
Acts 2 records the birthday of the church,
when the Holy Spirit descended upon the
120 believers who were assembled in the
Upper Room. It also records the growth
process of the infant church. On the Day
of Pentecost, about 3000 people believed
the gospel, repented of their sins, and
were baptized as followers of Jesus Christ.
Acts 2:42 (ESV) And they devoted
themselves to the apostles’ teaching and
the fellowship, to the breaking of bread
and the prayers. And the last sentence of
Acts 2:47 says,
praising God and having favor with all the
people. And the Lord added to their
number day by day those who were being
saved.
Notice that God did not add people to the
church without saving them. And God did
not save them without adding them to
the church. This organic union of
personal salvation and church
membership is the unchanging pattern of
the New Testament. And throughout
church history, whenever biblical
Christianity has been practiced, Christians
have had a high view of the church.
Unfortunately, this is not the case in the
day and times in which we live.
There are many today – both unbelievers
and professing Christians – who question
the necessity, relevance, and importance
of the local church. And our generation
has created a new category that biblical
and historical Christianity never
conceived of: UNCHURCHED CHRISTIANS. In
contrast, the position of historic
Christianity can be summarized in the
words of CYPRIAN who said, “Outside the
church there is no salvation.”
In other words, the biblical answer to the
question “Who needs the church?” is this:
Whoever wants to be saved. This does
not mean that church membership,
attendance, and participation can save
you. God forgives our sins by grace alone
through faith alone because of Jesus
Christ alone. But God has made the
church the stewards of the gospel of
Jesus Christ.

1995 and brings an evangelistic
approach to singing and preaching
focused on the life-changing gospel of
Jesus Christ. The group consists of
Ricky Capps, Jerry Pilgrim, T. J. Evans,
and Lathan Moore. You'll also find
Chuck Howe behind the scenes. The
group credits Chuck Howe as a vital part
of their ministry from running sound to
playing drums claiming that they
couldn't do what they do without him.
In Ricky, you have found a friend. He
says, "When I die, if people can't say
that I reminded them of Jesus, then my
life was in vain."
Jerry Pilgrim is one of Gospel music's
greatest bass singers. Jerry's voice is
one that will wow the crowds whether
singing a heart-felt ballad or roomrattling
notes. Singing just comes
naturally for him.
Ricky Capps is the founder and owner of
the group. You will find Ricky wearing
many hats fulfilling the role of preacher,
boss, emcee, and comic relief. Ricky has
a passion for seeing souls saved and his
passion can be seen night after night.

T. J. Evans is the lead singer of Master's
Voice. He brings professionalism,
approachability, consistency, and
loyalty to the group. T. J. is known as
one of the finest communicators of the
Gospel.
Lathan Moore is the baritone of the
group. He has a powerful testimony of
God's grace and power. Whether
blending in harmony or singing solo, his
vocal ability does not go unnoticed.

You Don't
Have to

I’ve always been proud to be a woman.
Women are resilient and strong, the
ones who see a need and fill it, grinand-bear-it,
and get it done. A woman
can walk through fire with her home,
husband, and children strapped atop
her shoulders. Though battered and
bleeding and burnt, she will bravely
march onward. She’ll not think twice
about sacrificing herself for the needs
of her family. In fact, she’ll most
gladly die to save them.
But that's not all a woman will do.

A woman can see the needs of others
outside of her family. She knows she
is strong and capable. She believes
her abilities are endless. Something
needs doing? Of course she will do it.
Someone needs rescuing? Of course
she will save them. Some slot needs
filling? Of course she will rearrange
her schedule to make it work! She is a
superhero without a cape, an
unstoppable force of benevolent
sacrifice. A can-do candidate for
every request. She is a Superworman,

and you can count on her to save the
day.
But underneath that perfected smile
and smooth appearance of capable
together-ness, this woman is actually
quite miserable. She’s stressed to the
max. She’s burnt out and bitter. She
really resents the fact that she’s so
dependable. She’s so exhausted she’s
begun to cry at weird times and lose her
temper over little things. Superwoman
isn’t as super as she seems. She’s just
super tired of doing everything for
everyone all by herself.
Can anyone relate to this madness?
I can.
Tomorrow I’ll celebrate eight years as a
survivor of a brain hemorrhage that
should have killed or paralyzed me. I
thought I was superwoman. I thought I
had to do it all, make sure it all got
done, intervene, and show up, and save
the day for everyone. But I had the
wrong idea. And it nearly cost me my
life. There can only be one savior.
God declares, “I, even I, am the Lord;
and beside me there is no savior.”
(Isaiah 43:11) We may be tempted to
rush in and solve every problem and fill
every role, but we need to put on the
brakes and do a little self-evaluation
first. Ask yourself what you really
believe. Do you really believe that if
you don’t step in and save the day that
all will be lost? Do you really believe
that God will ultimately fail without
your help?
Friends, when we place the safety and
success of a situation all squarely on
our shoulders, we take on a title we
don’t deserve and cannot afford. Only
Jesus is worthy of the title of Saviour,
and only Jesus can fill the position.
“Neither is there salvation in any other;
for there is none other name under
heaven given among men, whereby me
must be saved.”(Acts 4:12)
Your shoulders have a limited span.
Your heart has a limited capacity. Your
patience is not endless, and your body
is not indestructible. But there is a
Savior, whose shoulders bore a cruel
cross and with it our griefs and sorrows
(Isa 53:4). There is Superman who was
100% human, and yet 100% God who
bore our burdens to Calvary, and died
in our place (Isa 53:8). There is a hero
who gave everything to save others,

yet this hero rose again. This hero lives.
“Therefore He is able also to save to
the uttermost those who come unto
God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to
make intercession for them.” (Heb 7:25)
Take it from a woman who had a stress
headache from superwoman
syndrome that turned into a brain
bleed I shouldn't have survived- you do
not have to save the day. You weren’t
called to be a savior. You were called to
abide in The Savior, Jesus Christ. Stop
striving and start abiding. Rest in Him.
Trust in Him. Believe in His power, His
providence, His protection. He didn’t
need your help saving the world two
thousand years ago. He doesn't need it
now. You don’t have to be super
anything except thankful that the
burden no longer rests on your
shoulders.

to the Southern Gospel arena.
Clint Brown has been described
as the modern day David. He
has over 30 years Music
Ministry experience and has
recorded 23 albums and penned
over 500 songs in 13 different
languages for many Gospel
Artists. In 1993, Brown became the Pastor of Judah Church in Orlando, FL.
Jody Braselton was born and raised just north of Atlanta, GA. Jody recorded his first
project at age 15 and has recorded 6 more albums since . Many Southern Gospel
groups would stop and sing at his family's church such as The Hinsons, The
Kingsmen, and The Cathedrals and Jody was influenced by the power of Southern
Gospel harmonies and song lyrics. He has led worship for 25 years.
Seth J. Elbe's family sang together in local churches and would travel the road
humming harmonies from Southern Gospel groups as well as the Oakridge Boys.
Seth enjoys making delicious dishes and grillin'
the best steaks. Through his enjoyment of
song-writing, leading worship, creating
arrangements, and directing the choir, Seth
is able to use his talent where he serves as the
Worship Pastor at Judah Church in Orlando, FL.

Showcase Gold Artist, the Fortner Brothers 4
Christ reside in Rainsville, AL. They are all
brothers-Layne, and triplets, Kyle, Kennon,
and Konner. You will enjoy getting to learn
more about this Faith Country group.
All of us have been singing since we could
hum…before we could talk. Our babysitter has
reminisced to us that she remembers Kyle
humming a tune while she changed his diaper!
Our mom taught children’s choir at our
church, so she began teaching us to sing
harmonies at a very young age. We began
learning music at age 5 while taking piano, but
eventually our teacher moved and life got
busy with us playing baseball. At the ages of 8
and 10, we began taking guitar lessons from
Chris Roberts School of Music. He gave all of
his students opportunities to gain confidence
by having concert nights for his students -
lights and all!
All four of us decided that we wanted to start
our own band and use our talents to praise
Jesus! That Christmas our parents decided to
surprise us with the opportunity to do just
that! They gave us a drum set and a bass
guitar. They had no idea who would gravitate
to what, but Kyle and Layne stayed on guitar,
while Konner went to bass and Kennon
became our drummer. We continued lessons
at Chris Roberts, but in our own areas.

just continued from there. Churches in the
area just kept asking us to come and worship
with them. We were super excited when Mike
Owens from the Pickin’ Post asked us to front

to open one door after another and we are
excited at the prospect of taking Christ to the
World! That is our ultimate goal! We will
continue to sing and play as long as God
continues to open doors!
We are excited about singing Faith Country,
because we feel it gives us the edge of going
to sing in places other than just churches. It
takes us into the world (fairs, etc.) and gives
us the opportunity to share Christ with the
unchurched. We, also, do YouTube posts,
songs, devotions, etc. to attempt to share
Christ with everyone. The best thing that we
know of that has come out of those posts is
the opportunity to lead a couple of youth to
the Lord. We encourage you to share your
faith! Don’t keep what He’s done
for you a secret!
We are super excited that our new
music video for Numbered will be
released on YouTube on June
, 9, 2023! It is a powerful song
about our days being numbered.
We don’t know which number we are
on, so we should live all of our days
for Christ alone! We are currently
recording some other new songs, so be
watching for our music coming soon.

FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
A person can be a church member
without being a Christian, yet a
Christian cannot be a healthy,
growing, fruitful Christian without
active participation in a local church.
Hebrews 10:24-25 gives four biblical
reasons why Christian assembly is a
requirement for every follower of Jesus
Christ.
Hebrews 10:24–25 (ESV) And let us
consider how to stir up one another to
love and good works, not neglecting to
meet together,
as is the habit of some, but encouraging
one another, and all the more as you
see the Day drawing near.
The Epistle of Hebrews was written to a
group of at-risk Jewish Christians who
were tempted to turn away from Christ
because of severe persecution. The
anonymous author of Hebrews wrote
this letter to challenge them to
persevere in their faith. He does this by
emphasizing one word: BETTER.
He wants them to know that what they
have in the Lord Jesus Christ is better
than what they had in the religious
system of Judaism.
In Hebrews 10:19-21, the writer
summarizes the argument he has been
making since chapter three; Hebrews
10:19–21 (ESV) Therefore, brothers,
since we have confidence to enter the
holy places by the blood of Jesus,
by the new and living way that he
opened for us through the curtain, that
is, through his flesh, and since we have a
great priest over the house of God.
Then, on the basis of the Person and
Work of Christ, he calls the readers to
hold fast to Christ with three (3)
commands that begin with words “Let
us.”

assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled

What do you say to a person who is ready to
give up on Jesus?
This chapter gives divinely inspired instructions
for those who are ready to throw in the towel.
Specifically, our text teaches that you need to
commit yourself to some local assembly of
believers, so that you can submit to the
accountability and responsibility that will help
you to persevere in faith.

Lately, I’ve been seeing the phrase, "the
man, the myth, the legend", when
referring to Dads. This phrase was
spoken by Mario Andretti about his rival,
Ayrton Senna. It has since been used to
describe a person who is highly regarded
and often thought of as larger than life.
My father was a quiet man, but when he
spoke, you listened. We lost my dad to
COVID in 2020. Bobby and I live next
door to my mom now and my dad can be
seen everywhere. He is highly regarded
in our family and we miss him everyday.
Mario Andretti couldn’t have said it
better. When you think of a legend, you
think of someone that leaves behind an
unforgettable presence and impression
on others. They touch lives, they're
remembered and cherished. You don’t
have to be famous or wealthy to be a
legend. You just have to find your calling,
follow it, and touch others around you.
People remember legends for what they
do or have meant to someone. Identify
your talents and use them to impact the
lives around you. Romans 12:6(NLT) tells
us that God gives each of us a special
talent. “In His Grace, God has given us
different gifts for doing certain things
well.” You just have to find that special
thing you do well.
Each one of us have a calling on our life.
It may not be to preach in church or sing
in the choir or anything to get in the
spotlight. To identify your calling, take
note of where your values lie. In
Ephesians 4:1, Paul urges the Ephesians
“to live a life worthy of the calling you
have received. Be completely humble
and gentle; be patient, bearing with one
another in love.”
Legends are not just “weekend warriors”.
They devote themselves to living a life
worthy of the call everyday. They touch
lives everyday. The Bible mentions
Tabitha in Acts 9. It doesn’t say much
except “She was always doing good and
helping the poor.” She touched and
impacted many people’s lives.
