Welcome

Welcome to a new year! We anticipate 2022 to be a year of

emerging into God’s sovereign plan and blessing.

We pray that the world turns a corner as we near the second

anniversary of the Covid 19 pandemic. Last year’s highlights

were the month of prayer and the daily Zoom prayer meetings

that continue for 365 days. This foundation is something God

will build upon. We anticipate God’s anointing and blessing as

we head into our 2022 Week of Prayer and our various initiatives.

This magazine helps us begin to see some of the opportunities

in 2022 for reaching out, discipleship, and leadership

development. I hope you can take some time to read through

and consider how you are going to begin 2022.

broken relationships bringing harmony with both God and

humankind. Jesus gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

We will see this on many fronts this year. If you know a

family member who has wandered from the faith, may this

be the year of their return. If you know of broken relationships

due to Covid-19, may this be the year of healing.

First Christmas and tours of Bethlehem showed us how

many are curious about Jesus. We pray the lost would be

reconciled with the love of God.

4. Hospitality – a warm and generous spirit to embrace people

and host them in our homes, Life Groups, and Church.

Community is essential in our faith journey. We have

learned through the pandemic how devasting loneliness

and isolation can be. We want to foster a generous and

welcoming environment. This will be illustrated in church

ministries, open homes, and Life Groups.

Below are the five big prayer requests for CLA in 2022. We

encourage you to pray through these as we launch the year;

they will be used in our monthly prayer gatherings on the last

Sunday of the month. Monica will also send them to our Prayer

and Fasting Team each month.

1. Spiritual Identity – for CLA to know who we are in Christ

and to be able to pass that identity to the next generation.

Having a clear understanding of our position in Christ

defends us from insecurity, the enemy’s lies and cultural

5. Harvest – after a significant season of prayer in 2021,

that we would see the advancement of the Kingdom of

God through our loving action, witness, and all people

walking in the Spirit. We are believing 2022 to be a year

of harvest. Every generation, campus and congregation

will experience an in-gathering of new souls. May our vision

be bold. May our actions be filled with faith. May the

in-gathering be propelled by love and social action, both

at a church level and individual level.

pressure to conform. Jesus came to give life to a new humanity;

it is vital to understand our Christian identity.

2. Resiliency – for CLA to recover from the crisis and change

of Covid with faith, hope and clear mission. As mentioned,

Thank you for taking time to prayerfully consider what God

wants to do in and through your life in 2022. We don’t simply

attend a church, we are a family on mission. Join us.

we believe 2022 will be a year of emerging into new realities

and opportunities. What is before us will look different

than what is behind us. God is moulding His Church to be

both missional and adaptable.

3. Reconciliation – of the lost, the prodigal child, and of

Our Four

Priorities.

Gather

because of Christ’s resurrection.

Christianity cannot be lived in isolation. We gather because it

unites our hearts in one common belief in Jesus Christ. As we

celebrate together, we sing, pray, hear God’s Word and regularly

participate in the Lord’s Supper and baptism as instructed in the

New Testament. We meet to encourage each other to live out

our faith as we are sent out.

Serve

because of Christ’s sacrifice.

Christ’s own sacrifice compels us to get out of our own story

and into the story of others. Jesus calls us to serve and not sit,

to sacrifice our personal time, gifts and resources to see others

transformed by the gospel. We lead and are not just led,

we feed and are not just fed. We find meaning and purpose in

choosing to serve.

Grow

because of Christ in us.

The Bible tells us in Colossians 1:27 that Christ in you is the

hope of glory! How could we not be transformed when God

lives in us? As we grow in our awareness of God’s presence

in and through us, our lives reflect Him in even greater ways.

We’re all called to growth, and growth happens best together.

Go

because of Christ’s love.

We are compelled to reach out because of Christ’s love within

us. At the heart of a missional church is the desire to bring

Christ into our sphere of influence, to be the salt of the earth

and a light on a hill. Yet, it does not stop there. CLA has a special

call to our nation and world. We pray, we love, we give, we

represent Christ here and globally.

New Around Here?

SUNDAYS

Why do we gather?

Each week we gather as a Church, to grow closer to God through great teaching, to focus our hearts through worship on the God who

gives us life. We grow together as a community as we are challenged to serve our community, our city, our country, our world. We are

united in seeking God and serving together.

What should I expect?

We know life is busy, and we want to honour your time. Our services are one hour long and they include music, an opportunity for prayer,

and 25 minutes of relevant, Bible-based teaching. From the time you enter the parking lot, our hope is you feel at home. Once inside, visit

the Guest Services desk and we will help you find a seat and answer any questions you may have.

WELCOME TO CHURCH PARTY

A great place to meet people, meet key ministry leaders and

part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts

There’s no obligation to say anything; it’s an opportunity to

hear from others and contribute your own perspective. Alpha

runs for 11 weeks at both Langley and Maple Ridge Campus.

END TIMES

now? Come and see what the Bible has to say about the

end-times signs and God’s eternal timeline. Through this

course, you will come to better understand the chronological

framework for the final events depicted in the Bible - including

the Rapture, the Great Tribulation, Christ’s Second

Return, the Millennium, and the New Heaven and New Earth!

As we focus on Christ’s end-times discourse, Paul’s teaching

on the Rapture, several Old Testament prophets such

as Daniel, John’s vision in Revelation and more, this study

will open your eyes and speak to your heart as you see

God’s plan for today and tomorrow unfolding in the Bible.

FAITH FOUNDATIONS

Why do some Christians stand firm in their faith during

the storms of life, while the faith of others ends up demolished?

Jesus says, it all depends on what foundation you

choose to build your faith upon. Rather than building your

faith upon the shifting sand of this world, build it upon the

firm foundation of God’s timeless Word (Luke 6:47-48).

Join us for this 10-week class, “Faith Foundations,” where

newer followers of Jesus will learn more about what God’s

Word says and how they can better apply it to their lives.

tough times; you may lead your friends to make best decisions

for a better tomorrow; you may lead your co-workers toward

a shared vision and preferred future; and you may lead other

Christ-followers to love and worship God by serving Jesus and

His church through the power of the Holy Spirit, and so fulfill

God’s unique calling for your life. If you sense God has poised

you to lead others, whatever you do, don’t start there. Start with

developing the leader in you. Until you can lead yourself, you will

BELIEVING JESUS – A JOURNEY

THROUGH ACTS BY LISA HARPER

What does it mean to believe in Jesus? Not just believe in

Jesus, but actually believe what He said--and shape our

lives around that truth? How would that affect the choices

we make? The way we see the world? The way we conduct

ourselves with other Christians? In Believing Jesus, Lisa

Harper answers these questions by looking at lives of the

believers in the book of Acts and how Jesus’ command to

spread the gospel to the ends of the earth forever shaped

Messiah who relentlessly seeks, saves, and restores us.

from “Benedict Arnold” to “Billy Graham” when the power of

the Holy Spirit came over him. How the first community of

believers was a place like the beloved Cheers of sitcom fame

where everyone knew each others’ names and needs. How

it cost Stephen and other early believers their very lives to

follow Christ. And how Paul’s case proves that God’s grace can

change the worst of sinners into saints, making us willing to

have our lives interrupted by God and truly bloom wherever we

are planted. Today, we are faced with the same decisions the

early church faced. Will we, like them, truly believe the words

of Jesus and allow them to transform every part of our lives?
